Chapter 307: Chapter 307: Be Good, Let’s Not Live Anymore

"I’m going to go take care of that old hag!"

Lu Cheng: "..."

He grabbed her arm and tried to placate her. "Grandma is old, after all. You..."

He was about to say, ’Don’t stoop to her level,’ but after meeting his wife’s sharp, cold gaze, he wisely changed his tune. "Just... be gentle with her, okay?"

Jiang Moli grunted in satisfaction, then got up and left.

Feeling uneasy, Lu Cheng threw on his jacket and followed her.

An Hui and Ma Hongmei were standing silently at the door to Zhu Huanghua’s room, their faces etched with worry.

It was only the first night. There was bound to be more trouble ahead.

Seeing Jiang Moli and Lu Cheng come out of their room, An Hui sighed quietly and called them into the living room to talk.

"I’m afraid things won’t be quiet around here for a while. Why don’t you move back to the family residence tomorrow?"

This was directed mainly at Jiang Moli.

Lu Cheng’s bereavement leave was over, and he had to return to his military unit the next day.

"Mom, I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying right here to keep you and Dad company."

Setting aside everything else, the fact that Jiang Moli was willing to stay and face the current situation was enough to move both mother and son deeply.

An Hui gazed at her gently, her eyes full of affection. "You don’t have to stay here and get tormented with us. Just come back to visit more often when you have time."

Jiang Moli nudged An Hui back toward her bedroom. "Mom, you go back to your room and get some sleep. I’ll go fix—I mean, I’ll go take care of Grandma."

An Hui reminded her worriedly, "Grandma’s old. Take it easy on her."

"Don’t worry. Good people die young, but a scourge lives for a thousand years. Someone like Grandma will have no problem living another ten years."

An Hui: "..."

’The words are crude, but the logic isn’t wrong. But that was just a little *too* crude.’

Jiang Moli went to the kitchen, mixed half a bowl of brown sugar water, and carried it to Zhu Huanghua’s room.

Lu Deyao was still trying to coax Zhu Huanghua with gentle words. "Mom, it’s so late. Can we please stop making a fuss? Even if we don’t need to rest, the neighbors do, right?"

"Oh, so now your wings have hardened, huh? You think I’m old and useless! What’s the point of me being alive anymore..."

She wailed while slapping the bed heavily.

Jiang Moli walked in and sat on the edge of the bed. "Grandma, drink your medicine. Be good now. Let’s not live anymore, okay?"

Zhu Huanghua’s wails cut off abruptly, as if someone had grabbed her by the throat.

Lu Deyao eyed the bowl in Jiang Moli’s hand, uncertain. "Moli, what’s in that bowl?"

Jiang Moli didn’t even blink. "Arsenic water."

Lu Deyao glanced at the horrified Zhu Huanghua, then stroked his chin and said nothing.

Jiang Moli grinned at the stunned Zhu Huanghua. "Don’t you worry, Grandma. I put in a big enough dose. You’ll die right after you drink it. You definitely won’t see tomorrow’s sun."

Zhu Huanghua was both furious and terrified, her finger trembling as she pointed at her. "You... you wicked woman with a black heart and rotten liver! You want to poison me?"

"Oh, come on. Everyone has to die sooner or later. The sooner you die, the sooner you get reincarnated. Come on, drink up..."

As she spoke, she brought the bowl to Zhu Huanghua’s lips.

Terrified, Zhu Huanghua shoved the bowl away with a speed she had never before displayed.

The brown sugar water in the bowl sloshed out, spilling all over the bed and the floor.

Zhu Huanghua, utterly exasperated, started railing at Lu Deyao. "What the hell are you standing there gawking for? This evil woman is trying to harm me! Help! Murder!"

"Grandma, I was just teasing you. It’s just brown sugar water."

With that, Jiang Moli lifted the bowl and drank the rest of the brown sugar water in one gulp.

The expressions that flickered across Zhu Huanghua’s old face were quite a sight to behold.

Jiang Moli laughed. "I was just playing with you. Look how scared you got. You’ve lived to such a ripe old age, and you’re still so afraid of dying?"

Then her smile vanished, her expression becoming as blank as if she were looking at a corpse. "This time it was brown sugar water. Next time, it might not be. Filial piety is earned through kindness from one’s elders. If you behave yourself and don’t cause trouble, the younger generation will naturally show you proper respect and let you live out your golden years in peace."

Zhu Huanghua glared at her venomously. "You... you little hussy! Don’t think there’s no one who can put you in your place..."

Jiang Moli sat down on the edge of the bed, crossed her legs, and wore a mocking expression.

"Now, if we were in Fucheng, you’d have a few uncles to back you up, and I really wouldn’t dare act so presumptuously. But this is Rongcheng. This is our turf. You could scream your lungs out, and no one would come to save you. Mwahahaha..."

After being thoroughly intimidated and scared by Jiang Moli, Zhu Huanghua finally stopped her fussing, obediently took a calming pill, and went to sleep.

Coming out of Zhu Huanghua’s room, Lu Deyao couldn’t help but give Jiang Moli a thumbs-up.

"Moli, you’re the one with the solutions! My goodness, it’s almost one o’clock. You should hurry back to your room and sleep."

"Alright. You get some sleep too, Dad."

Jiang Moli was indeed sleepy. She yawned as she headed back to her room.

Lu Deyao watched her enter her room with a cheerful smile, then turned to look at his son with disdain. "The only useful thing you’ve ever done is marry a good wife."

"Then you’re pretty useless yourself. You can’t even handle an old woman. You have to rely on my wife."

Lu Deyao was so angry he could only glare.

Back in their room, Lu Deyao saw An Hui leaning against the headboard, knitting a sweater. His mood instantly improved.

"Why aren’t you asleep yet? Were you waiting for me?"

An Hui stopped her knitting. "Is Mom asleep?"

"She is."

Lu Deyao took off his clothes, slipped into bed, and recounted to her, in great detail, how Jiang Moli had subdued Zhu Huanghua.

When he finished, he said with a look of relief, "Our third son’s wife is the one with the skills and methods. Without her, this family would fall apart."

His words struck a chord with An Hui.

With their third son’s wife around, even living under the same roof as her difficult mother-in-law no longer felt unbearable.

...

The next day, Jiang Moli didn’t get out of bed until after ten o’clock.

The house was quiet.

She peeked into Zhu Huanghua’s room and saw that it was empty.

Then she went into the living room, rubbing her eyes, and asked An Hui, "Where’s Grandma?"

"Your dad and Xiao Cheng took her to the hospital for a check-up."

An Hui looked at her with a kindly expression. "I left some breakfast for you in the pot."

Ma Hongmei said eagerly, "Moli, you go wash up. I’ll bring it to the table for you."

"Alright, thank you, Cousin-in-law."

Lu Tingting stomped to the bathroom door, her cheeks puffed out, and glared at Jiang Moli, who was busy washing her face.

’That damn woman. She sleeps in this late, and not only does she not get scolded, but Grandma and Great-aunt are doting on her like she’s some kind of treasure.’

’Some people just have all the luck.’

Jiang Moli dried her face, saw Lu Tingting standing at the bathroom door, and gave her a flirtatious wink in the mirror.

Lu Tingting’s face instantly turned red.

’That damn woman’s skin is freakishly good. So fair and tender, you can’t even see a single pore.’

’Her features are gorgeous, too—almond eyes, rosy cheeks, willow-leaf eyebrows. Her eyes are so bright and sparkling, and her wet eyelashes are like two little fans. Her lips are so red and pouty... it’s just too cute.’

Lu Tingting walked up to the mirror and examined herself from every angle. Why didn’t she turn out like that!

While brushing her teeth, Jiang Moli mumbled, "Good little niece, I want to ask you something."

Lu Tingting eyed her. "Spit it out."

"You should move in here."

Lu Tingting was taken aback. "There aren’t any spare rooms. Where would I sleep if I moved in?"

"With me, of course."

A strange sense of happiness welled up inside Lu Tingting, but she put on a proud front. "Why are you asking me to move in for no reason?"

Jiang Moli spat out a mouthful of toothpaste foam. "I have my reasons for asking you to come over."

Then she patted her on the cheek. "Be good. Go home and pack your things. You can move in after your third uncle leaves."

As Lu Tingting walked out of the Lu Family’s gate, she touched her cheek and couldn’t help but break into a grin.
