Chapter 694: Chapter 576: Overdid It

That night, Walnut was full of energy and successfully mated a full nine times.

The longest session lasted for more than eight minutes.

Ma Tao and the others didn’t go home. They were incredibly busy, recording the entire process while constantly providing food to ensure the two pandas had enough stamina.

They also held a remote conference call with the Jin City Base to discuss and document the whole event.

Even Zhu Fengmao rushed over after hearing the news, watching the entire process with excitement.

After returning to his hotel and having a simple breakfast, Shen Xin made his routine video call to Ding Yuwei, who had stayed behind in Shanggu to help.

Seeing Shen Xin yawning constantly, Ding Yuwei asked worriedly what he had been up to and if he hadn’t rested well.

For the past few days, Shen Xin’s mood had been heavy because of the Lu Weihong case.

"No, I was watching ’movies’ all night," Shen Xin said, shaking his head.

’It’s rather absurd,’ he thought, ’to think I spent the entire night waiting on Walnut while the panda was busy with *that* sort of thing.’

"’Movies’?"

Ding Yuwei’s expression was strange.

Shen Xin said, "What are you thinking? I’m talking about Walnut."

He then explained Walnut’s situation.

The night had been exhausting, but the results were gratifying.

The Meng Lan lineage, known for its round faces and sweet looks, could be traced back to the giant panda Lin Nan.

And Lin Nan was from the Baishui River reserve.

Therefore, the union of Walnut and Meng Meng had deep roots—a match made in heaven.

Now that the two pandas had successfully tied the knot, everyone from the Anjing Zoo to Kang Province was ecstatic.

Ding Yuwei’s face lit up with understanding. She breathed a silent sigh of relief and added, "So, does that mean Walnut might actually go back to the Baishui River?"

She knew what Shen Xin was hoping for.

Shen Xin thought for a moment and said, "I think there’s a good chance."

After all, Zhu Fengmao was grinning so hard his eyes were crinkling.

As long as he gave the green light, there was hope.

He shared a few more details about Walnut’s activities, finally saying, "To be honest, by the end, I think Walnut was really starting to enjoy it. If Meng Meng hadn’t refused, I think he would’ve kept going."

Ding Yuwei was so stunned by this that she didn’t know how to respond.

After a bit more small talk, Shen Xin couldn’t help but ask about the case.

He’d said he didn’t want to be too involved, but he liked to see things through to the end, so he couldn’t help but care about what happened next.

He was especially concerned about Ruan Jia, wondering how she was doing and if she could withstand such a blow.

Ding Yuwei thought for a moment. "She’s doing okay, I think."

As a woman, she was often the one who communicated with Ruan Jia during the follow-up, so she had a better understanding of the situation.

"Do you know what she said after we told her the details about Lu Weihong?" Ding Yuwei asked.

Shen Xin shook his head. ’It must have been anger,’ he thought.

No matter how deep their love was, it was still a huge deception. And no matter how understandable Lu Weihong’s motives were, he was still a murderer.

One who had killed six people.

If Ruan Jia saw the videos of the crimes, she probably wouldn’t even recognize her own husband.

Ding Yuwei said, "The last thing she told me was that she doesn’t blame Lu Weihong. She said his methods were wrong, but if he had gone through what he did back then and done nothing about it, and she found out, she would have thought he wasn’t a man."

"Anyway..." Ding Yuwei trailed off, unsure how to describe Ruan Jia’s reaction. She just sighed and said, "She’s a really good person. It’s such a shame."

She then described what happened after Lu Weihong’s death.

Lu Weihong’s mother was so overcome with anxiety and anger that she was hospitalized.

His father was old and couldn’t handle the situation.

Ruan Jia handled all the arrangements that followed.

She claimed the body and arranged the funeral.

She even asked to meet the victims’ families, especially those of the three innocent victims including Hu Zeyang, wanting to apologize on her husband’s behalf.

"Ruan Jia’s mother even came and made a scene, demanding to take Ruan Jia back to her family home. She insisted this was the Lu family’s problem and had nothing to do with them, but Ruan Jia persuaded her to go back."

"Anyway, for Ruan Jia to go this far... I think it’s really something. It shows Lu Weihong wasn’t wrong to think of his wife and daughter in the end."

Ding Yuwei was clearly filled with emotion.

Seeing Shen Xin listening in silence, she changed the subject and talked about other things.

Lu Weihong’s death was so sudden that many details of his crimes were still unclear.

This was an official investigation; they couldn’t just brush it aside because Lu Weihong was dead. They had to clarify every single detail as much as possible.

The special task force had been busy with this for the past few days.

They had already clarified a few things.

For example, the reason they couldn’t trace him by his phone was because Lu Weihong really didn’t bring it with him. He had intentionally left his phone behind in Anjing and Shanggu to create the illusion he was still in his hometown.

He must have studied a lot of material on criminal investigation. He had strong counter-surveillance awareness and had considered many angles.

Secondly, they clarified some more details through Yang Guofa.

Specifically, Walnut’s whereabouts after the incident at the wooden cabin.

It was Liu Baoli who had gone back, brought Walnut down the mountain, and raised him in isolation.

He then raised him all the way until the following April, when Wang Shulin accidentally stumbled upon him, which led to the panda being reported.

They chatted for a while longer, but Shen Xin was so exhausted he couldn’t take it anymore and went to rest.

But he only got a few hours of sleep before being woken up by a phone call.

It was the Anjing Zoo. They said there was a situation with Walnut.

He was agitated and wouldn’t listen to anyone. They asked Shen Xin to come over and see what was going on.

When he rushed over, he saw Walnut furiously banging on the cage door.

His strength was astonishing; the iron door was already slightly bent from the force of his blows.

The people from the Jin City Base had arrived. During the video call last night, they had mentioned they would be flying in this morning.

They were now discussing the situation with Ma Tao and his team, trying to analyze what was happening.

The team was led by an expert from the Dujiangyan Breeding and Research Center named Hou Liangzhong.

Back when Shen Xin was a zookeeper, he had communicated with him often, but this was their first time meeting in person.

"Shen Xin, come take a look. What’s going on here?" Hou Liangzhong asked anxiously.

He had never heard of a panda becoming aggressive the day after mating.

Walnut had already smelled Shen Xin and was letting out low calls.

The iron door was damaged and had to be forced open. Shen Xin scolded, "Walnut, are you going to fix this door?"

Walnut grunted.

’My door.’

He wasn’t wrong. It was, in fact, the door to his home.

Then, the rascal bypassed Shen Xin and charged out.

Shen Xin quickly grabbed him.

With Shen Xin, Walnut knew to hold back; otherwise, Shen Xin wouldn’t have been able to stop him at all.

"What are you trying to do?" Shen Xin asked, grabbing his ear.

Walnut bared his teeth and called out twice.

’More.’

The thought itself wasn’t very clear, but with his third-stage ability, Shen Xin could see the image in Walnut’s mind and understood what he meant.

"What the—"

Shen Xin’s eyes went wide.

Ma Tao hurriedly asked, "What’s wrong?"

He had long suspected that Shen Xin could speak the language of animals and communicate with them seamlessly.

Not knowing whether to laugh or cry, Shen Xin gave Walnut a light slap and said, "This guy wants to mate with Meng Meng again."

After saying that, he couldn’t resist giving him another swat.

’Single for eleven years, and now he’s this desperate. Can’t you let Meng Meng get some rest?’

"For real?" Everyone present stared with wide eyes.

Hou Liangzhong, in particular, looked completely incredulous.

He had never seen a panda with such a strong drive.

Walnut was already impatient. Seizing a moment when Shen Xin was distracted, he turned and ran toward Meng Meng’s nearby enclosure, banging on her iron door.

Inside her enclosure, Meng Meng, who was munching on bamboo, shuddered at Walnut’s calls and quietly scooted further into a corner.

It took Shen Xin and the others working together to finally drag him back.

"What are we going to do? Is there no satisfying him?" Xu Haisheng said, rather speechless.

They used to worry about pandas having low libidos. Now they had the opposite problem.

"The key issue is that there are no more targets."

The Anjing Zoo had nine giant pandas. Besides Fuxing, who was still growing up at the breeding base, and Meng Lan’s family, the only ones left were Earth, Jini, and Fuxing’s older sister, Dian Dian.

Earth was a male, and while Jini was a female, she was too old.

And Dian Dian, born in ’15, wasn’t mature yet.

Hou Liangzhong suddenly interjected, "How about... I take Walnut back with me?"

As soon as he said this, Zhu Fengmao grew tense and asked what he meant.

Hou Liangzhong explained.

This was actually a new idea that the Jin City Protection Center had come up with last night.

Walnut had always been in their breeding plan, but because he was uncooperative, the plan was shelved, effectively abandoned.

Who would have thought that last night Walnut would suddenly have an epiphany and learn to take the initiative?

A proactive male giant panda could sire an entire dynasty.

So, the breeding base’s idea was that after Walnut was done with Meng Meng, they could see if they could bring him back to the base during the current breeding season and have him mate with a few more females.

For instance, at the Divine Tree Plateau, there were plenty of female giant pandas waiting to be paired.

He hadn’t mentioned it earlier because the matter was still under consideration.

But now, seeing Walnut’s condition, he felt it would be a shame not to bring it up.

Zhu Fengmao and the others didn’t respond, but Shen Xin’s heart sank.

’I was hoping Walnut could earn his freedom through his own efforts,’ Shen Xin thought. ’This is great. He tried too hard. Is he going to have a harem of three thousand now?’
