Chapter 710: Chapter 8: Picking a Fight

As Philips was marveling internally, Shen Xin was also shocked by the AI’s capabilities.

’Technological progress is just too fast.’

Several years ago, Shen Xin had heard about plans to develop AI facial recognition to pair with a "Skynet" system, leaving criminals with nowhere to hide.

Nothing ever came of it, at least not in Nanjiang.

But given the current pace of development, it felt like it could be ready in the next couple of years.

Then there were the drones.

The police birds had their advantages, and the drones had theirs.

Once cities were covered in cameras, with drones filling in the gaps and AI tying it all together, it would truly be an inescapable net.

With the test successful, the next step was to send the animals out.

With the AI in control, the humans had it easy. All they had to do was watch.

It helped that Tian Kui and the others were obedient and generally didn’t run off.

Shen Xin also took the opportunity to learn more about this whole "AI thing" from Philips.

He was a real whiz and truly knew his stuff.

The day’s mission could be called a complete success. Sixteen percent of the teams completed their planned search of 500 square kilometers.

The AI also provided some feedback data.

It could monitor the police dogs’ movement speed, analyze whether they were tired, and determine their optimal daily working hours. Then, based on search efficiency, it could adjust the plan to create a more optimal objective.

They tried it the next day, and just as predicted, efficiency rose. Forty-two percent of the teams completed their mission.

The AI once again proposed an optimization, suggesting they should leverage the natural advantage of the winged animals.

The dogs were fast, but they couldn’t maintain high speeds in the air for long periods like birds could.

The ravens’ eyesight and sense of smell were also astonishing.

Therefore, the AI’s recommendation was to expand the ravens’ operational area. Forget just over 400 square kilometers a day—they should double it and aim to search 1,000 square kilometers.

These things could easily cruise at seventy to eighty kilometers per hour.

Among corvids, they were famous for their powerful flight. A thirty-by-thirty-kilometer area was truly no great effort for them.

In other words, the AI was saying they should just stop deploying the police dogs. Their efficiency was too low; using only the ravens would suffice.

It even performed a detailed analysis, making a comprehensive comparison of everything from eyesight to sense of smell.

It argued that anything the dogs could do, the ravens could do too.

When a suspicious target was found, a dog would run over on the ground to confirm. Why couldn’t a raven do the same?

After some consideration, Shen Xin accepted this suggestion.

So, for the next few days, the ravens took center stage. Tian Kui and the other police dogs were all benched, waiting on standby.

Efficiency did indeed go up.

Fifty birds could search nearly 50,000 square kilometers a day. This meant it would only take a few days to search the entire designated area.

A German shepherd looked up and barked twice at Tian Kui, who was sitting beside him. "Boss, stop looking."

Tian Kui sat there like a statue, watching the ravens turn into black dots and disappear over the horizon.

He had been idle for three days, and he felt a bit... resentful.

Tian Kui turned his head and snarled at the German shepherd.

The German shepherd flinched and quickly got up, taking a couple of steps back.

"No ambition."

Tian Kui looked away again, feeling defiant and displeased.

’So what if they have a pair of wings?’

Of course, the core reason was that Tian Kui felt he no longer had a purpose.

This was something he could not accept.

He was a nationally decorated service dog who had received commendations! His daily food allowance was sixty yuan!

’And what would Shen Xin think? That I’m useless now?’

That was a thought Tian Kui couldn’t bear under any circumstances.

In Tian Kui’s heart, his devotion might not have reached the level of Celestial Skill, who saw Shen Xin as his entire world, but it was close.

Tian Kui was terrified that Shen Xin would start to neglect him.

As his mind raced with these anxious thoughts, Da Mei came strolling over.

Trailing behind her was an American Shorthair.

With looks like Da Mei’s, she was popular wherever she went.

Of course, not too far behind, the resentful Sheriff was also following.

Da Mei sidled up and meowed twice.

Since Tian Kui was already in a bad mood, he just snarled at her. "What do you want?"

The American Shorthair behind her bristled as if it had been electrocuted, then turned and dove under a nearby car in fright.

Da Mei, however, was not afraid. After the initial shock, she even jumped up and tried to scratch Tian Kui.

Tian Kui dodged.

"You just don’t quit, do you?"

The size difference between them was obvious; he just didn’t want to stoop to her level.

Da Mei let out a soft huff. She didn’t provoke him further, instead moving closer and gently rubbing her head against him while letting out a few meows.

"Help me with a fight."

Cats and dogs don’t speak the same language, but having spent so much time together, Tian Kui could generally guess her meaning from her body language and the tone of her meows.

One look in her eyes and Tian Kui knew this one was up to no good.

"Come on, let’s go."

Da Mei kept rubbing her head against Tian Kui, rolling onto her back to act cute, and gently kicking him with her little paws.

Dogs can roll their eyes, too.

Tian Kui took two steps back and barked twice.

"Fine, let’s go."

He was in a foul mood anyway. Blowing off some steam sounded like a good idea.

Da Mei scrambled to her feet, ready to lead the way. Seeing Tian Kui going by himself, she quickly stopped him and meowed twice at the German shepherd nearby.

"Bring a few more helpers!"

"No need."

Tian Kui turned his head away. ’Helpers? To deal with one cat?’

But Da Mei shook her head. "That cat is huge!"

Then she ran in front of the German shepherd and swatted it with her paw.

"What are you doing? Use your eyes! Can’t you see your boss is already leaving? Get a move on!"

Good thing Tian Kui couldn’t understand her.

Otherwise, he would have had to ask Da Mei if this "huge cat" she was talking about was a tiger.

Of course, there are no tigers in North America.

But since Da Mei insisted on bringing a few lackeys, Tian Kui didn’t care either way. He followed her out of the small town and headed northwest.
