Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 623 - 613: Zombie 8
Although he brought one more Space Button than Moira Lynch, he hadn’t managed to bring in any of the five items he’d prepared, aside from the first-aid kit.
Shane Rhodes was furious just thinking about it. That Cosmic Consciousness really played dirty.
Since it was a test, shouldn’t the rules have been the same for everyone? They changed on a whim, catching them completely off guard.
Besides, the last round at least had a grace period, giving the other zones time to figure out what the real crisis was.
This time, they were dropped in a month after the zombies first appeared.
When Moira Lynch was first teleported here, she was almost trampled by a herd of mutated animals. Shane Rhodes, on the other hand, had it even worse.
Whether it was intentional or not, he was teleported directly into a horde of zombies.
If he hadn’t reacted fast enough, he’d be part of the horde by now.
Hearing Shane Rhodes say that he hadn’t brought any items besides the first-aid kit, Moira Lynch was a little confused. "That’s not right. I thought you guys always kept your items in your Space Buttons."
Moira Lynch had put all her items, including her Space Buttons, into her personal dimension, which the Cosmic Consciousness then sealed. That was why she was in her current predicament.
Besides, since she had already converted her most important and powerful items into spiritual power, the Cosmic Consciousness’s move hadn’t affected her much, aside from cutting off her food supply.
But Shane Rhodes and the other two were different. They carried their items on their person.
"Well, after the last game, the three of us decided to leave any unnecessary items at home, only bringing what we thought we’d need."
We thought this game would be like the last one, where it would only start after we’d chosen our items. Who knew...
Moira Lynch patted his shoulder comfortingly. Then she remembered the cache of melee weapons she’d collected back in the villa district.
’With that in mind,’ she took a Tang Blade from her personal dimension. The blade was adorned with beautiful patterns, its edge shimmering with a faint, ghostly light. It looked incredibly cool.
Shane Rhodes was instantly captivated the moment he saw the Tang Blade. What man could resist the allure of such a cool weapon?
Seeing how much he liked it, Moira was about to pull out the other weapons for him to choose from. But just then, a sudden knock came from the door.
She opened the door to find an old man with graying hair standing ramrod straight outside.
"Are you here for healing?" Moira Lynch asked, looking at the old man. She guessed his purpose immediately.
’Even though he was elderly, his clothes were immaculate, and he had a healthy, ruddy complexion. He didn’t look sick at all.’
’If he’s not the one who’s sick, then the patient must be someone else.’
"Indeed," the old man said. "But the patient isn’t me. It’s my young master."
Moira Lynch nodded. "In that case, please come in. The patient should come in as well."
She glanced back at the empty living room, a flicker of annoyance rising within her. ’No wonder it felt like I forgot something when I went out today. I forgot to buy a bed.’
’Since my target clientele are the severely wounded, or even those on the brink of death, I can’t exactly expect them to stand while I heal them, can I?’
However, the old man didn’t move after Moira Lynch spoke. With a troubled expression, he said, "My young master’s condition is extremely poor. He relies on machines just to stay alive. If it’s possible, I’d like to ask you, Miss Lynn, to come with us. We can pay you double your fee."
"Of course," Moira Lynch agreed readily. ’I have nothing else going on, and besides, they’re offering double the fee.’
"You don’t mind if I bring my brother along, do you?"
"Certainly."
It was perfectly normal for a Healing Superpower User to have a few Guardians for protection.
Just like that, Moira Lynch and Shane Rhodes followed the old man into a car, which took them to a hospital.
They came to a VIP room on the top floor.
Inside the room, the only sound was the steady BEEP, BEEP, BEEP of medical equipment. On the bed lay a pale, gaunt young boy.
’A vegetative state?’
"He didn’t just recently end up like this, did he?" Moira Lynch asked.
’Judging by the boy’s condition, he must have been bedridden for several years at least.’
The old man didn’t hide anything in his reply. "My young master is the Old Master’s son from his later years. He was also born prematurely, so his health has always been poor. Three years ago, he accidentally tumbled down the stairs and hit his head. He’s been in a coma ever since."
"To be frank, we’ve already had the other Healing Superpower Users in the base try to treat him. While they could temporarily improve his physical condition, none of them were ever able to wake him."
He had come this time because he’d heard a new Healing Superpower User had arrived in the base—one who was different from the rest. Not only were her fees expensive, but she also claimed to treat only the most severe cases.
Willing to try anything, the Old Master had sent him to find her.
Looking at the young master on the bed, Shane Rhodes shot Moira a look that asked, ’Got this?’
Moira Lynch gave him an ’OK’ sign.
’As long as he’s not all the way dead, it’s not a problem.’
First, she reached out and placed a hand on the boy to check his condition.
’Just as I thought, a naturally weak constitution. And the old man did say he was born to older parents.’
’The father’s sperm was likely weak, and the mother probably wasn’t in the best of health either. Add in the premature birth... under these circumstances, it’s a miracle he was even born and managed to live this long.’
The boy’s body was like a leaky balloon; no matter how much air you pumped in, it would all eventually escape.
That explained why the previous Healing Superpower Users hadn’t been able to cure him.
’To heal him completely, I have to plug the leak.’
’Not a problem.’
Wisps of flame, infused with healing energy, flowed from Moira Lynch’s fingers into the boy’s body.
The old man didn’t understand what was happening, but the monitors connected to the boy’s body were providing a real-time reflection of his physical state.
As he watched the boy’s vitals improve little by little, the old man didn’t look particularly happy. The previous treatments by the other Healing Superpower Users had always started out the same way.
The young master’s vitals would improve temporarily, only to plummet after a short while, sometimes ending up even worse than before.
The treatment lasted for about three minutes.
Three minutes later, Moira Lynch withdrew her hand and casually removed the oxygen mask from the boy’s face.
The old man was startled by Moira’s action and instinctively moved to check on the boy.
However, he then saw the boy, whose eyes had been shut tight, slowly blink them open. His gaze was filled with confusion.
"What happened to me?"
