Chapter 326: Chapter 164: Signs of Human Habitation

Xu Mo narrowed his eyes, slowed down, and opened his map, only to find that the town wasn’t marked. He couldn’t tell if the map was out of date or if the town was newly built.

But since it was right on his path, checking it out seemed like the logical thing to do.

The SUV continued onward. When he was about two kilometers from the town, Xu Mo spotted a sign on the side of the road.

The wooden sign was taller than a person, secured in the dirt by two stakes. A few lines of text were written on it in red paint. Though somewhat faded, they were still legible:

Linhai Town Settlement, 2km Ahead

Survivors Welcome to Join Us~

Please Obey the Settlement’s Rules. Violators Will Face the Consequences.

Xu Mo looked at the sign and let out a long sigh of relief. A sign like this outside the town at least suggested that the Linhai Town settlement possessed some semblance of order.

Xu Mo stopped the car and stared at the sign for a moment.

The frame was new, but the wooden board itself looked like it had been in use for some time, though it was still sturdy. The red paint showed signs of being touched up, indicating that people were maintaining the settlement and that the sign had been standing here for quite a while.

After confirming that the settlement had been established for some time, Xu Mo got back in the car and continued on.

He covered the two kilometers in what felt like an instant.

As the SUV neared the town, Xu Mo’s gaze swept ahead. A crude wall, about three meters high, encircled the outskirts of Linhai Town. It was a patchwork of wooden planks, sheet metal, and sandbags. While it didn’t look particularly sturdy, it could at least withstand an attack from regular zombies. Observation holes were spaced out along the wall, and he could faintly see people moving around inside.

At the town’s entrance stood a wooden watchtower, about five meters high, with a person standing on top.

The person was holding a pair of worn-out binoculars and looking in Xu Mo’s direction. Seeing the SUV approach, he first froze for a second, then began waving his hands frantically. His movements were urgent, as if he were trying to shoo him away.

Xu Mo slowed down and rolled down the window, trying to hear what the man was shouting.

As the vehicle got a little closer, the man’s shouts finally reached him:

"Don’t come any closer! Go left! Hide to the left! There are zombies on the right! They could come this way at any moment! We can’t open the gate for you!"

Xu Mo’s foot hovered over the brake, his brow furrowed slightly. A question mark slowly formed in his mind.

’Zombies again?’

Hearing this, Xu Mo couldn’t help but grumble to himself. ’Why are there always zombies wherever I go? It was like this in Luochuan City, like this by the river, and now it’s the same here at Linhai Town.’

When the man in the watchtower saw that Xu Mo hadn’t turned, he thought he hadn’t heard clearly and yelled even more urgently:

"Get out of here! There are a hundred or two hundred of them! And some Level 1s! Don’t just sit there!"

From the driver’s seat, Xu Mo looked past the watchtower toward the right side of the town. He could faintly hear the intermittent roars of zombies, and it was clear there were quite a few of them.

’A hundred or two hundred zombies, plus Level 1 mutated ones. For ordinary survivors, this would indeed be a huge problem, but for me...’

Xu Mo stepped on the gas and turned the wheel.

Not to the left, but to the right.

The man in the watchtower froze.

His mouth hung open in the middle of a shout as he watched the SUV drive off to the right. It took him several seconds to react, and then he started waving frantically. "Wrong way! Wrong way! I said there are zombies on YOUR right!!

But Xu Mo was already far away. The man stomped his feet in frustration and shouted a few more times, but the SUV didn’t turn back. He could only watch helplessly as the vehicle disappeared around a corner of the town, finally smacking his thigh in vexation.

Linhai Town wasn’t large. After driving for two or three minutes, Xu Mo had already circled around to the town’s right flank.

The roars of the zombies grew clearer and more frequent. Xu Mo slowed down, his gaze sweeping forward until he saw the horde.

There were over a hundred of them, packed densely outside the town wall. Some were ramming their bodies against the wall, others were clawing at it, trying to climb, while the rest just roared aimlessly.

The town wall had clearly been reinforced, but several sections were already cracked from the impacts and looked ready to collapse at any moment.

Behind the horde, several Level 1 mutated zombies were prowling.

Xu Mo narrowed his eyes and quickly scanned the battlefield. ’Two Agility Types, three Strength Types, and one Venom Type.’ It was the last one that was spewing venom, causing the wall to HISS and smoke as it corroded.

Xu Mo grabbed the Triangular Spike from the passenger seat, slung his AK-47 over his back, closed the car door, and strode forward.

Because he hadn’t bothered Concealing his Aura, the outermost zombies sensed his presence the moment he stepped out of the car. They turned their heads, their murky eyes fixing on him, and let out low roars before charging.

Xu Mo hopped in place a few times and loosened up his arms, then charged straight toward the oncoming zombies.

As he charged, he raised the Triangular Spike slightly, ready to start the slaughter at any moment.

The first zombie rushed up to him. Xu Mo sidestepped it, simultaneously thrusting the Triangular Spike through its eye socket and out the back of its skull. The entire motion was too fast to see. The zombie didn’t even have time for a second move before it was just a corpse.

Xu Mo pulled the blade free and continued forward.

A second, a third, a fourth...

Without breaking stride, Xu Mo swung the Triangular Spike left and right, felling every zombie that lunged at him. Before him, these common zombies were as flimsy as paper.
