Chapter 372 - 178: The Way Out
Chapter 372: Chapter 178: The Way Out
Sitting on the floor, Xu Mo thought about how to escape.
By now, Xu Mo was certain of one thing: the entirety of Pinggu City was crawling with zombies. Yesterday’s rain had thoroughly roused the city’s undead, driving the zombies that had been hiding inside buildings out into the open. And based on what he’d seen yesterday, the city didn’t just have common zombies; it also had Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 Zombies.
Relying on his own strength, fighting his way out single-handedly was almost impossible.
Xu Mo quickly took stock of his abilities. Thanks to his Iron Bone Realm’s Concealing Aura technique, he could prevent most common zombies from attacking him.
However, that wasn’t a sure thing against Level 1 or 2 Zombies. The senses of those mutated zombies were far stronger than those of common ones. They could detect subtler auras and perceive sounds from much farther away. Even if Xu Mo used his Concealing Aura, he couldn’t guarantee it would fool them, to say nothing of the Level 3 Zombies also present.
The moment a single zombie spotted him, it would attract more. An endless horde would swarm him, and at that point, he’d be completely overwhelmed, no matter how powerful he was.
What’s more, he still needed to get to his SUV. It was parked near the office building, and he had no idea what condition it was in now.
But Xu Mo knew that if he wanted to leave, he absolutely needed a vehicle. Without one, even if he managed to escape Pinggu City, he wouldn’t get far. The road ahead was long; he couldn’t walk all the way to Ming Pearl Port.
’So, getting spotted is inevitable.’
Xu Mo’s brow furrowed as he continued to think.
’But what if I abandon the SUV?’
Xu Mo began to seriously consider it. If he ditched the car, could he escape?
The answer was—impossible!
’Even if I don’t need the car, I still have to get downstairs, don’t I? And once I’m down, I have to cross the streets. The zombies are swarming out there. How am I supposed to get through?’
’What, am I just going to fly over them?’
Then, an idea sparked in Xu Mo’s mind.
’Flying over them... might not be impossible!’
Xu Mo turned to look out the window. The sky was clear, and the visibility was excellent. He was on the thirty-third floor of this office building. If he could travel by air, he really could avoid the zombies on the ground.
The question was, how to fly?
’A glider!’
The word flashed through Xu Mo’s mind. If he had a glider, he could take off from the roof of the thirty-third floor, use the altitude to glide for a dozen or so kilometers, and leave Pinggu City. He could find a safe place to land and then figure out his next move.
Plus, a glider needed no engine or runway. As long as it had enough altitude, it could glide for a long distance. Thirty-three floors was high enough to glide for a dozen or so kilometers. On top of that, a glider is almost silent in flight and wouldn’t alert the zombies on the ground.
’Once I fly out of Pinggu City, I can find a place to land and then use my ’door’ ability to get myself a car. It’ll be a hassle, but it’s not impossible.’
’Anyway, the intel on Jiang City is in my backpack; that’s the most important thing. The biggest loss would just be my personal storage space.’
’After all, you can always find more supplies, but you only get one life.’
Xu Mo quickly made up his mind. If it came down to it, he would ditch the car. Saving his own life was what mattered most.
But...
Just when Xu Mo thought he had found a way out, a sudden realization shattered his plan to pieces.
’Damn it, I don’t know how to fly a glider!’
Xu Mo froze for a second, then couldn’t help but curse inwardly. He didn’t know how to fly the damn thing.
Forget gliders; Xu Mo had barely even been on a paddle boat more than a few times. Growing up, he could count the number of times he’d been on a plane on one hand, let alone flown one himself. The complex instrument panels, the control sticks, the techniques for takeoff and landing—he didn’t know the first thing about any of it.
"Haaaah..."
Xu Mo leaned against the wall, letting out a long sigh.
’Damn it! In the future, I have to find someone to teach me how to fly a plane!’
Xu Mo silently vowed to himself that he would learn to operate every kind of vehicle, no matter what. Whether it flew in the sky or sailed on the water, he had to master it. In the apocalypse, every extra skill was another path to survival.
’Today, I’m stumped by a glider. Tomorrow, it might be a boat, and the day after, something else. I can’t just brute-force my way through every time, can I?’
But that was a problem for later. The question now was how to solve his current predicament.
Xu Mo stood up and walked to the window, glancing down at the street below.
On the street below, zombies wandered about in small, scattered groups...
"Damn it, I’m getting out of here through the sky!"
Xu Mo muttered, looking down at the throngs of zombies on the street below.
Breaking out on the ground was almost impossible, and he couldn’t fly a glider, but a paraglider... that should work, right?
Before he’d crossed over, Xu Mo had seen plenty of tutorials on paragliding. It was much simpler than a glider; at worst, the landing might be a little rough. But with his physical skills, as long as he was a bit careful on descent, it shouldn’t be a major issue.
After thinking it over, Xu Mo felt the plan was quite feasible.
Having settled on a plan, Xu Mo turned, grabbed his backpack, and rummaged through it, pulling out a piece of cardstock and a pen he hadn’t used in ages. He began to write.
"Paraglider warehouse."
After writing those two words, Xu Mo drew a simple sketch of a paraglider underneath. It was crooked and clumsy, but you could roughly make out the shape of a canopy, which was good enough.
