Chapter 375 - 179: Encounter
Chapter 375: Chapter 179: Encounter
Before she could finish, Bingbing suddenly shouted, "The sky!"
Zhong snapped his head up, looking at the sky through the windshield.
In the sky, an orange object was flying in their direction. It had a strange shape, like a giant umbrella with a person hanging beneath it.
"A paraglider!"
Zhong’s eyes went wide. For a moment, he even forgot about the monster behind them.
"Is that... a paraglider?" he said in disbelief.
’In this apocalypse, there’s still someone flying? And with a paraglider, of all things?’
Bingbing was stunned too. She stared at the paraglider for a few seconds, then wrenched the steering wheel hard.
The SUV carved an arc across the wasteland, veering off its original course and heading in the opposite direction of the paraglider.
Zhong froze for a second, then realized what was happening. "Bingbing, what are you doing?"
"Nothing," Bingbing said, her eyes fixed on the road ahead, her tone calm. "We’re probably not going to make it, but we can’t drag someone else into our mess. It would be too immoral to lead that monster to them."
Zhong opened his mouth to say something, but in the end, he just nodded.
’He understood Bingbing’s reasoning. The monster had been chasing them for so long, it wouldn’t give up easily. If they led it to the paraglider, that person would get dragged into the mess. They were flying in the sky, completely unable to deal with a monster on the ground. The moment they landed, the monster would probably attack.’
’They were already unlucky enough; they couldn’t let someone else suffer the same fate.’
Zhong took a deep breath, picked up his gun again, and leaned back out of the vehicle.
This time, he didn’t fire immediately. Instead, he waited a few seconds for the SUV to steady a bit. Then he aimed at the monster behind them and pulled the trigger.
"BANG!"
The bullet flew out, but he had no idea where it landed.
Zhong gritted his teeth and kept firing.
"BANG! BANG!"
He fired two shots in a row.
Just as Zhong was about to pull back in to reload, he saw the pursuing monster suddenly lurch sideways, as if it had been slammed by something. Its front legs buckled, and its entire body pitched forward, tumbling several times across the wasteland before coming to a stop, motionless.
Zhong was stunned. He looked at the gun in his hands, then back at the monster lying on the ground.
"Nice shot, Zhong!" she exclaimed, slapping him hard on the shoulder. "I knew you had it in you!"
But Zhong had a strange expression on his face. He got back into the passenger seat, looked down at his gun, and frowned.
"What’s wrong?" Bingbing asked.
Zhong looked up, his eyes full of confusion. "I don’t think I was the one who hit it."
"Not you?" Bingbing faltered. "Then..."
She suddenly thought of something and snapped her gaze to the sky.
The orange paraglider was still up there, flying toward them.
"It was that person?" Bingbing said in disbelief.
Zhong nodded. "When I fired just now, I think I heard another shot. It wasn’t from my gun. The sound was much louder, more resonant... like a sniper rifle."
Bingbing fell silent. She watched the paraglider get closer and closer, an indescribable sense of shock welling up inside her.
’To take out that monster in one shot, from that far away, while moving at high speed on a paraglider... Just how skilled is that person?’
’She thought back to her decision—not to lead the monster toward them. If she hadn’t done that, if she had deliberately lured it over, what would the outcome be right now?’
’Would that person have taken them out with a single shot, too?’
A cold sweat broke out on Bingbing’s back at the thought. She was glad she had made the right choice.
"That person... is incredible," Zhong murmured, his eyes filled with awe.
Bingbing took a deep breath and stopped the car.
The SUV slowly decelerated in the wasteland, finally coming to a stop on a relatively flat patch of grass. The two of them sat in the car, watching the orange paraglider in the sky grow closer.
Just then, another gunshot echoed from the sky.
"BANG!"
The sound was loud and resonant—definitely a sniper rifle.
Zhong and Bingbing both flinched, instinctively ducking. They thought the person in the sky, having finished off the monster, was now coming for them.
But they quickly realized that wasn’t the case.
The person wasn’t shooting at them. He was firing in the direction of the monster’s corpse.
"BANG! BANG!"
Two more shots.
The man fired continuously at the monster’s corpse, as if making sure it was well and truly dead.
An unexplainable feeling washed over Zhong as he watched.
"Look at that," Bingbing said, glancing at Zhong with a hint of teasing in her voice. "So powerful, yet so cautious. That’s why people like him are the ones who survive."
Zhong gave a wry smile and didn’t argue.
Bingbing pushed open the car door and got out. She looked up and waved energetically at the paraglider in the sky.
"HEY—! OVER HERE—!" she yelled.
Zhong got out of the car too and started waving along with her.
The paraglider circled once in the sky, then began a slow descent.
The paraglider got lower and closer, and the two of them could finally make out the person’s appearance.
He was a young man in black combat gear, carrying a large backpack. His build was well-proportioned, and when he detached from the paraglider, his movements were steady, with no wasted motion.
After landing, the man paid no mind to the paraglider on the ground. Instead, he turned and walked toward the two of them.
