Chapter 394: Chapter 184: Kill
’But what if they really do catch up?’
At the thought, Xu Mo’s eyes turned cold for a moment. If they kept pursuing him, he would use lethal force.
This was not a threat.
Just as he was thinking, Xu Mo’s ear suddenly caught a strange sound—the roar of a car engine.
The sound was coming from behind, distant but drawing closer.
Xu Mo’s gaze instantly turned ice-cold. He didn’t stop. Instead, he gently turned the steering wheel, guiding the vehicle toward the shadows at the side of the road. At the same time, he listened intently, trying to judge the other vehicle’s distance and direction.
The engine noise grew louder. It was the SUV, and it was catching up.
"Still so stubborn."
Xu Mo muttered, his voice devoid of anger, tinged only with a faint sense of resignation.
He had thought his words would be enough to make them calm down, or at least go back and investigate. But it seemed anger and prejudice had triumphed over reason. They had chosen to continue the chase, to keep treating him as the bad guy.
’In that case, there’s nothing more to say.’ Xu Mo wrenched the steering wheel, and the car veered off the road. He didn’t go far, just a few dozen meters, before stopping the car in a relatively hidden patch of tall grass.
After parking, Xu Mo got out of the SUV and lay prone in another patch of grass some distance away, waiting quietly.
It wasn’t long before headlights appeared.
The SUV emerged from the darkness, its beams cutting a swath of light across the road. It wasn’t moving fast; they were clearly searching for something.
Xu Mo held his breath, watching the vehicle drive straight past him.
’They didn’t see me.’ Xu Mo breathed a sigh of relief. ’Once they’re far enough away, I can take a detour and leave. No need for another conflict.’
But just then, the vehicle suddenly slowed down and came to a stop.
Xu Mo’s brow furrowed.
The SUV stopped for a few seconds, then began to reverse. It backed up until it was right beside the spot where Xu Mo had driven off the road into the wilderness, then stopped again.
Xu Mo’s heart sank. ’They found it.’
Sure enough, the SUV’s doors opened, and three men got out. They didn’t approach. Instead, from a distance, they raised their guns, and a dense volley of gunfire erupted.
"RAT-A-TAT-TAT—"
A storm of bullets rained down on Xu Mo’s SUV. The body was riddled with holes, the glass shattered completely, the tires burst, and the hood was blown clean off. Then, a bullet struck the gas tank.
"BOOM!"
The explosion ripped through the night. Flames shot into the air, illuminating the surroundings for dozens of meters. In the fiery glow, Xu Mo’s SUV was transformed into a burning scrap heap, thick black smoke billowing upwards.
Lying in the grass, Xu Mo watched as his vehicle was blown to pieces.
His eyes were as cold as ice.
That vehicle contained the vast majority of his supplies. Most importantly, his paraglider was still inside.
Xu Mo remained prone in the grass, his hand tightening around his Triangular Spike as he watched the three men.
They stood beside their vehicle, their faces flushed red in the firelight. One of them shouted at the burning wreck.
"Come on out! Don’t you love spouting all that twisted nonsense? Come on out and say it! Let our guns have a listen!"
Another man chimed in mockingly, "Yeah! Come on out and talk! We’re listening!"
The third man said nothing, but he was smiling.
Xu Mo watched them coldly. ’They think I’m still in the car. They’re wrong.’
Xu Mo raised his AK-47, aiming the muzzle at the three men.
"BANG!"
The first shot hit the wrist of the young man who had been shouting the loudest.
"AHH—!"
The man’s gun flew from his grasp. He let out a piercing scream, clutching his wrist as he crumpled to his knees.
"BANG!"
Xu Mo fired again, hitting the second man’s gun hand, also in the wrist. His weapon clattered to the ground. He stood stunned for a second before his own scream of pain followed.
"BANG! BANG!"
The third man reacted the fastest. The moment he heard the gunshots, he dropped to the ground and tried to roll away. But Xu Mo’s bullets were faster than his movements—two shots, one to his right hand, the other to his left leg.
"AH!"
The third man cried out as he collapsed into the grass.
From the first shot to the last, no more than three seconds had passed. All three men were on the ground, incapacitated. Their guns lay scattered nearby.
Xu Mo rose from the grass. He leveled his AK-47 and walked toward the three men, one step at a time.
The firelight flickered across Xu Mo’s face, making his expression seem exceptionally cold.
When the three men saw him emerge from the grass, their pained expressions turned to terror.
"You... you weren’t in the car?" the young man stammered, his voice trembling as he clutched his wrist.
Xu Mo didn’t answer him. He walked up to the trio and looked down at them. Blood flowed from their wounds, staining the ground a dark red.
"I let you go once," Xu Mo began, his voice calm—so calm it was frightening. "I left you a blade to free yourselves. I also told you not to follow me, that if you did, I would use lethal force."
He paused, his gaze sweeping over their faces.
"Why didn’t you listen?"
No one spoke. The young man gritted his teeth, whether from pain or fear was unclear. The second man hung his head, not daring to look at him. The third man was curled up in the grass, shivering uncontrollably.
Xu Mo pointed the muzzle of his gun at the first man’s forehead.
"I’m asking you. I let you go, so why did you keep chasing me?"
The man looked up, staring at the Black Hole of the gun’s muzzle. Fear and anger filled his eyes, but there was also a flicker of defiance.
"For justice!" he practically shouted. "You’re a murderer! We’re carrying out justice!"
Xu Mo tilted his head.
"Justice?"
"Yes! Justice!" The man seemed to have found his conviction, his voice growing louder. "You killed our people, so we have to capture you! That’s justice!"
