Chapter 407: Chapter 186: Drone
A faint light flashed, and the scene before Xu Mo changed.
Xu Mo had expected to see rows of mortars, howitzers, or other heavy weapons that required multiple people to operate when he opened the door. But what came into view was a row of neat gun racks, holding large-caliber sniper rifles with a rugged, powerful design.
"Barretts!"
Xu Mo’s eyes lit up. He walked over to the gun rack and ran his hand over the cold metal of the rifles.
"Oh! So it’s man-portable heavy firepower."
Xu Mo understood.
This time, opening the door hadn’t revealed crew-served heavy weapons, but rather heavy-firepower equipment that a single person could carry and use.
Xu Mo walked along the gun racks, his gaze sweeping over the weapons and equipment.
On the racks, besides the Barretts, were several grenade launchers. On the shelves next to them, a row of disposable, single-use rocket launchers was neatly stacked. This kind of weapon was simple to operate, could be discarded after firing, and packed enough punch to deal with most targets.
Xu Mo counted them. There were more than twenty.
Further over were neatly stacked crates of ammunition, each one clearly labeled.
Looking at all this equipment, a hint of satisfaction flashed in Xu Mo’s eyes. He had been wanting to replace his Barrett for a while now.
He walked to the gun rack, picked out a Barrett that looked brand new to replace his old one, and then headed for the row of grenade launchers.
Xu Mo grabbed a grenade launcher and also took hundreds of 40mm high-explosive rounds.
After grabbing those, Xu Mo turned his attention to the disposable rocket launchers. He took four of them.
When the countdown ended, Xu Mo looked at his haul with satisfaction. Four rocket launchers, hundreds of grenades, several hundred sniper rounds, and a new Barrett.
With this much firepower, he could take on more than just one person; he could probably handle a small army.
Looking at the pile of heavy weapons, a cold smile touched his lips. ’With this kind of firepower, there’s no way I can’t take care of you.’
Returning to a position about a hundred meters from the villa, Xu Mo stopped. He placed the four rocket launchers by his feet, then shouted at the top of his lungs, "Listen up in there! You’re surrounded!"
After saying this, Xu Mo couldn’t help but chuckle. He felt like he was in a movie.
"Ahem."
Clearing his throat, Xu Mo shouted again, "Come out and surrender now, and you might live! Otherwise, you’re dead!"
Having said his piece, Xu Mo waited quietly for a response.
After about two minutes, a voice finally came from the villa.
It came from one of the windows, an electronic voice distorted by a megaphone. The person inside was clearly using some kind of amplification device to shout back:
"Hey, you out there! Don’t think you can scare me with a few guns! This house is reinforced! The outer walls are steel-reinforced concrete, and the doors and windows are fitted with steel plates. That Barrett of yours can’t even scratch it! If you’ve got the guts, then try and break in! Let’s see what you’re really made of!"
The voice was filled with obvious provocation and disdain. Hearing it, Xu Mo actually cracked a smile. Now he almost wanted the guy to last a few more rounds.
"Oh? Reinforced, you say? Well then, let’s put that to the test!"
With that, Xu Mo bent down and picked up the grenade launcher. He pulled a 40mm high-explosive round from the ammo pouch on his belt, slid it into the chamber, and raised the weapon, aiming at the villa.
THUMP!
A muffled report echoed.
The 40mm grenade flew out, trailing a faint wake, and struck the edge of the window with perfect accuracy.
BOOM!
The explosion shattered the silence. Orange flames erupted from the window as the steel plate was blown into a twisted, mangled shape. Fragments of brick and concrete flew everywhere.
Xu Mo looked at the new opening with a flicker of satisfaction. He reloaded another grenade and aimed at a different window on the second floor.
THUMP! BOOM!
With another explosion, that window was also blown open, thick smoke billowing out.
But Xu Mo had no intention of stopping. He loaded a third grenade, this time aiming for the main entrance on the first floor.
THUMP! BOOM!
The steel plate on the villa’s front door was blown inward, and the wall around the frame crumbled, leaving the entire door on the verge of collapse.
After three grenades, Xu Mo lowered the launcher and shouted again, "How about now? Care to come out?"
"This is your final warning! The next one won’t be a little toy like this!"
Silence from the villa.
Xu Mo waited a few seconds, but there was no response.
Seeing the guy was determined to not give up until he was staring death in the face, Xu Mo bent down and picked up a rocket launcher. After loading it, he shouldered the weapon and aimed it at the villa.
This time, his target wasn’t a window or the door, but the center of the second-floor wall. He was going to show the person inside what real firepower meant.
Xu Mo took a deep breath and pressed the launch button.
"WHOOSH—"
With a deep launch sound, the rocket shot out of the tube, trailing white flame. It carved a slight arc through the air before striking the second-floor wall with perfect accuracy.
"BOOOM!!!"
The massive explosion was deafening. A ball of orange fire swelled violently, instantly engulfing that section of the wall. Xu Mo watched as the reinforced concrete was torn apart like paper by the blast. Countless fragments flew in all directions, and the entire villa shuddered violently as if struck by an invisible giant’s fist.
When the dust and smoke cleared slightly, Xu Mo could see the damage the rocket had caused.
A massive hole, over two meters in diameter, had appeared in the second-floor wall. Twisted rebar jutted out from the concrete, its jagged edges resembling a gruesome wound.
Xu Mo was stunned. He knew rocket launchers were powerful, but he hadn’t expected this.
This was his first time using such a weapon; he had only ever seen it on TV before. Witnessing a rocket explode with his own eyes delivered a completely different kind of visual impact.
"Holy shit..."
Xu Mo couldn’t help but mutter.
After coming to his senses, a smile touched Xu Mo’s lips. This feeling... how to describe it... was pretty damn satisfying!
Seeing still no response, Xu Mo put down the empty launcher and picked up another one.
This time, he aimed at a different spot on the same wall. One more hit, and the entire second floor’s support structure would likely be compromised, causing a partial collapse.
Just as Xu Mo’s finger was about to press the launch button, there was sudden movement from the villa.
Something white was stuck out of a shattered window and waved frantically.
To be precise, it was a piece of white cloth torn into the shape of a flag.
Xu Mo watched the frantically waving white cloth and stopped his finger. Then, he couldn’t help but laugh.
The man’s voice came through the megaphone again. This time, the arrogant and provocative tone was gone, replaced by obvious panic and fear:
"Stop shooting! Stop shooting! I surrender! I surrender!"
He was practically screaming, terrified that Xu Mo wouldn’t hear him.
"I’ll compensate you! I’ll pay for everything! Just stop! I’m begging you!"
Xu Mo looked at the frantically waving white flag, then glanced at the rocket launcher still aimed in his hands. He was silent for two seconds.
"Hands on your head. Walk out slowly. No funny business."
After hearing Xu Mo’s words, there were a few seconds of silence from the villa. Then, a young man emerged from the doorway, walking slowly with his hands on his head.
He looked to be in his late twenties, his face pale and his eyes filled with terror. He spoke in a trembling voice as he walked:
"Don’t shoot... I surrender..."
Xu Mo watched him without a word.
The young man walked out into the open area in front of the villa and squatted down as Xu Mo gestured.
Seeing that the man wasn’t planning any tricks, Xu Mo slowly approached.
"What’s your name?"
"Li... Li Rui..." The young man’s voice was still trembling. The rocket had clearly given him quite a shock.
"Li Rui," Xu Mo repeated. "Do you have any idea what you’ve just done?"
Li Rui looked up, his lips trembling, unable to speak.
Xu Mo’s gaze was calm, but hidden within that calmness was something that made one’s heart pound.
"You conducted unprovoked surveillance on me, and even after I responded, you continued to do as you pleased, going so far as to blow up my car. This has caused me immense physical and psychological damage."
"Based on the fundamental principles of survivor self-defense, my original intention was to eliminate you. However, seeing as you have a good attitude about admitting your mistake, I’ve decided not to hold you responsible. But... while you may escape punishment, you won’t escape death..."
"Sir!"
Hearing this, Li Rui finally couldn’t hold back anymore. He timidly spoke up, "Shouldn’t it be... you can escape death, but not punishm—"
"Shut up!"
Xu Mo shot him a glare and continued, "You may escape death, but you won’t escape punishment. Now, I am demanding compensation. You will need to provide..."
As Li Rui listened to the long list of supplies Xu Mo demanded, he glanced back at his villa, now riddled with holes, and nodded repeatedly with a miserable look on his face.
