Chapter 410: Chapter 187: Underground Shelter
Xu Mo sheathed his sword and set it aside.
After looking around a bit more, Xu Mo spotted several sets of armor in a corner. The armor was in the style of Plate Armor, its surface gleaming coldly under the lights.
"I was worried about getting scratched by zombies, so I ordered a few sets of armor. If you want one, you can take a set," Li Rui said.
Xu Mo looked at the armor and shook his head.
This armor might be good for an ordinary person, but it wasn’t suitable for him.
With his body’s current defensive capabilities at the Iron Bone Realm, ordinary swords and blades could barely harm him. Wearing this armor would only restrict his agility, so it was unnecessary.
Li Rui didn’t press the issue, just nodded.
After Xu Mo finished making his selections, his impression of Li Rui had changed drastically. ’This young man knows what he wants, knows how to protect himself, and knows when to bow his head at critical moments.’
Xu Mo thought for a moment and decided to return the favor.
"Li Rui," Xu Mo began, "I need to tell you something."
Li Rui looked at Xu Mo.
"Ming Pearl Port has fallen," Xu Mo continued. "You might have heard the news, but what you don’t know is that after its fall, the trust between survivors became incredibly fragile. Before, when you used drones to observe people, they might have just found you a little annoying. But now..."
Xu Mo paused. "Now, if people discover you’re watching them, they’ll likely attack you on sight. Because you’re observing them, they’ll assume you’re planning something against them. They’ll see you as a threat. In the apocalypse, a threat is an enemy, and an enemy deserves to die."
Li Rui’s expression changed.
"I..." He opened his mouth but said nothing.
Xu Mo continued, "You were observing me just now. If you hadn’t surrendered so quickly, you’d be a corpse right now."
Li Rui fell silent.
After a long moment, he finally said, "A while ago, I occasionally picked up a broadcast that mentioned the fall of Ming Pearl Port. But then the broadcast disappeared, so I didn’t know what happened next. I didn’t expect..."
"It’s worse than you can imagine," Xu Mo said. "Out in the wilds, there are also demonic beasts on the move. You’ve seen them with your drone, so you should know what I’m talking about."
Li Rui nodded, his expression turning serious. "I have. The drone’s flight range is limited, but I did see some strange things. I knew it was dangerous outside, but I didn’t realize it was this dangerous."
He looked at Xu Mo and said earnestly, "Thank you for telling me all this."
Xu Mo nodded but didn’t say anything more.
Li Rui was silent for a few seconds, then suddenly seemed to remember something. He turned, walked over to a storage locker, and took out a few sheets of paper and several key cards, handing them to Xu Mo.
Xu Mo took them and glanced over them, freezing for a moment.
Written on the paper were several addresses, spread across different cities and regions. Some were on the southeast coast, some deep in the interior, some in the mountains, and some on the plains. The key cards had no markings, only a string of numbers.
"What are these?" Xu Mo asked, puzzled.
Li Rui smiled, a little sheepishly. "I didn’t know where the apocalypse would break out, so I built a few shelters similar to this one in several different places. I had the money, anyway, so I just built shelters everywhere."
"These addresses are for the other shelters I built. Their layouts are similar to this one, and they’re also stocked with supplies, equipment, and vehicles."
Xu Mo was stunned. Li Rui had once again shattered his understanding of what it meant to be rich before the apocalypse.
"I can’t get to those places now anyway," Li Rui continued. "They’re too far, and with how dangerous it is outside, I don’t dare to leave. You’re going to be traveling around, so if you happen to pass by any of these locations, you can check them out. Use any of the supplies inside. Don’t be a stranger. I built these shelters in the first place so I’d have somewhere to hide if something happened. Since I can’t go, it’s better if you put them to use."
Xu Mo looked at Li Rui’s sincere face, and only one thought ran through his mind: ’Is this what the world of the rich is like?’
’Building a five-story-deep, fully functional, self-sufficient underground shelter in one place was already outrageous. But this guy actually built several of them, scattered in different locations, each one just like this!’
’How much money must that have cost? And this was just the money his family gave him to buy some peace and quiet!’
"Thank you," Xu Mo said, his tone serious.
Li Rui waved his hand. "Don’t mention it. I’m the one who provoked you first. Think of this as compensation."
Xu Mo nodded and put the papers and key cards into his backpack.
By now, the tense, confrontational atmosphere between them had vanished. Li Rui was no longer afraid of Xu Mo, and Xu Mo no longer saw him as an enemy.
Xu Mo argued with himself internally: ’I haven’t been corrupted by money. I was simply moved by his sincerity. Yes, that’s it.’
After chatting for a while longer, Xu Mo checked the time and prepared to leave.
Just then, a question occurred to him: this was the fifth basement level, so how was he supposed to get out?
In response to Xu Mo’s question, Li Rui slapped his own forehead. He then drove Xu Mo to another tunnel, which was long and sloped gently upward.
Emergency lights were spaced along both sides of the tunnel. Through the car window, Xu Mo could see that the walls were made of reinforced concrete. It was hard to tell how thick they were, but judging by Li Rui’s mindset, they couldn’t be thin.
They passed through one massive gate after another. Xu Mo saw that each one was extremely thick and heavy. At every gate, they had to stop and wait for Li Rui to enter a password or swipe an ID card. Some gates even required multiple forms of verification.
