Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 378: Selection Game 8
The sound vanished, but that didn’t mean its source had.
Just a few seconds later, the cacophonous sound returned, more urgent this time. Even Dylan Adler, standing beside her, heard it.
Before long, the thing finally revealed itself. From a distance, it looked like several tanks stacked together. It took them a moment to realize it was a robot.
“What are we dealing with this time?”
Of all the Executors the two of them had killed recently, no two had been from the same race.
Some were as handsome as the members of The Angelic they had faced before, while others were as haphazardly put together as an anglerfish from the deep sea.
In short, the two of them had gotten a crash course in biodiversity.
So now, upon seeing this behemoth that looked like it was made of stacked tanks, neither of them was surprised. Instead, they were curious, wondering what kind of abilities this particular Executor had.
At that moment, the distant robot clearly spotted them as well.
The robot’s three cannon barrels swiveled simultaneously, aiming at their position. The next second, three different beams of light—red, black, and yellow—shot toward them with unparalleled destructive power.
Faced with such a ferocious attack, the two showed no surprise, not even bothering to dodge.
As the three beams of light were about to reach them, a Space-Time Gate opened, and the beams vanished into it instantly.
Immediately after, Perry Yates tried to do what she usually did—redirect the attack back through the Space-Time Gate—but was surprised to find she couldn’t open a portal anywhere near the robot.
At this point, Safety Steward 001 provided its analysis: the area around the robot was sealed by some kind of force, which was why the Space-Time Gate couldn’t open there.
She didn’t panic upon hearing this.
‘Fine, if the space over there is sealed, I’ll just use a different spot. It’s not like the space on my end is blocked.’
With this thought, Perry Yates opened another Space Gate right next to the first one. The only difference was that one was an entrance, and the other was an exit.
The three beams of light were, in the end, returned to sender in their entirety.
Just then, a protective shield appeared around the robot, blocking the attack.
Perry Yates wasn’t worried. She glanced at Dylan Adler, a silent signal that it was his turn to act.
Dylan Adler nodded and unleashed his Gravity Skill, directing its crushing force at the robot.
It was clear that the three beams were incredibly powerful, but great power often came with a major drawback: high energy consumption.
This was especially true for machines. When a person’s stamina was exhausted, they could still push on through sheer will. When a machine’s energy was exhausted, it was truly exhausted. Therefore, against this powerful robot that had appeared out of nowhere, they just needed to wear it down slowly.
「Ten minutes later.」
From a pile of crushed and scattered parts, Perry Yates found… an egg?
Perry Yates stared, dumbfounded, at the egg in her hand. It had arms, legs, and a face.
“You’re an Executor, too?”
Perhaps it was the sheer disbelief in Perry Yates’s voice, but the egg she held suddenly seemed to take offense, and it began to struggle violently.
Because it was struggling so frantically, and because its shell was so smooth, Perry Yates lost her grip, and the egg fell.
Seeing this, Perry Yates immediately reached out to catch it and prevent it from escaping. However, the egg fell too quickly.
The bad news was, she didn’t catch it. The good news was, the egg didn’t get away either.
There happened to be a rock on the ground. The egg’s shell hit the rock and shattered, its yolk and white spilling all over the place.
[Ding, analysis complete. Exporting relevant data now.]
[Name: Egg-man Introduction: The Egg-man’s appearance is like that of an egg magnified several times, with slender arms, legs, and facial features. The Egg-man’s shell is fragile, so to protect itself, it will hide inside a suit of hard armor. The Egg-man possesses an amazing Talent for machinery, but due to its physical weakness, it is extremely sensitive. Sometimes, a single careless glance is enough to send it into a spiral of overthinking.]
Seeing this, Perry Yates couldn’t help but think of the Egg-man that had suddenly started struggling so violently.
‘So that’s why it reacted so strongly. Its pride must have been wounded.’
By this time, Dylan Adler had already scavenged all the usable parts from the wreckage.
And what do you know, even though a considerable portion had been destroyed by the explosion and Gravity, Dylan Adler still managed to find quite a few usable weapons.
Dylan Adler walked over, clutching the weapons like precious treasures, only to see the yolk and white splattered on the ground.
“Where’d such a big egg come from?”
Perry Yates explained, “It’s not an egg—well, not an ordinary egg. It’s an Egg-man, the Executor who was piloting that mech.”
Now it was Dylan Adler’s turn to be silent. These days, even eggs could be Executors.
‘Of course, it wasn’t that he looked down on eggs, nor that he looked down on Executors. Eggs were delicious. Executors were… very strong. But combining the two was a bit…’
“It seems there’s a reason the survival game system gave up on them.”
Perry Yates nodded in agreement.
Humans might seem fragile and full of bugs, but compared to the Executors they had seen, they were definitely a cut above the rest.
If nothing else, among the Executors they had encountered, the powerful ones almost always modeled their appearance after humans.
Some time later, through everyone’s efforts, the five percent mission objective was finally reached.
For her fourth card, Perry Yates chose Wargod Kai.
As another naturally Advanced Card, she had actually chosen it more for Dylan Adler’s benefit.
With Wargod Kai, their combat would be more secure. After all, since they were from the same planet, Perry Yates did care whether Dylan Adler lived or died.
There was no day or night in this game, and they had gradually lost their sense of time.
Although Safety Steward 001 could accurately track the time, Perry Yates rarely bothered to check it anymore. It was meaningless.
Now, she and Dylan Adler mainly told time by the red moon in the sky.
When the red moon was out, they would hunt Executors, because Moon Blade’s attack power was enhanced during that time. When there was no red moon, they kept a slightly lower profile, finding a place to rest in shifts when they got tired.
As a result, compared to other players, the two of them were in pretty good shape.
