Chapter 287: The Police Belle’s Dire Straits

As a public security captain, Qin Yueran possessed superb combat instincts.

She had posted a lookout downstairs long ago.

The person who just burst through the door was the very lookout she had posted.

“It’s… it’s bad, Captain Qin!”

“The men from the Security Bureau… they’ve caught up to us again…”

Qin Yueran’s expression turned cold, and she quickly put down her phone.

Rushing forward to check on him, she found that the lookout was already on his last breath.

The other three squad members in the room also wore expressions of grief.

But there was no time to dwell on it.

“Captain Qin, we have to fall back now.”

“We’ll cover you!”

Though Qin Yueran usually projected a cold, unapproachable beauty and had a temper as fiery as her figure, she treated her subordinates exceptionally well.

That was why they were now willing to protect her retreat.

However, before Qin Yueran could even respond, a mocking laugh echoed from beyond the door.

“Escape? Where do you think you can run?”

The words had barely faded when a group of men filed into the room.

Qin Yueran’s expression turned icy.

She recognized the man in the lead.

It was Yang Jun, one of the other public security captains.

He was the one who had been leading the hunt for her and her brother.

“Qin Yueran, I’ve finally cornered you.”

“I’d like to see you try and escape now.”

Yang Jun was a burly man.

As he looked at her now, his eyes were filled with smug triumph and an unconcealable… lust…

He had been lusting after East Sea City’s famous police belle for a long time.

The men behind Yang Jun poured into the room, quickly surrounding Qin Yueran and her small group.

But Qin Yueran remained utterly unafraid.

Her experience clearing out zombies and everything she had endured since the apocalypse began had made her even more composed.

She was just puzzled about one thing.

“How did you find me?”

Qin Yueran asked, her voice cold.

It was a question that had been nagging at her.

‘I was so careful not to leave any trail.’

‘Yet Yang Jun and his men managed to find me with such pinpoint accuracy.’

‘And this communications station is huge. For them to find me so quickly and precisely… it’s almost impossible.’

But in the next moment, she saw Yang Jun break into a strange, twisted smile.

“You want to know why, don’t you?”

“That’s easy enough to answer.”

“Captain Zhu, do it now!”

The words had barely left his lips when Qin Yueran heard a sickening squelch from behind her.

It was the sound of a sharp weapon plunging into flesh.

A sense of dread washed over Qin Yueran.

She reacted instantly, but was still struck in the back by a Superpower.

She coughed up a mouthful of blood.

Clearly, her attacker had struck to kill.

Qin Yueran looked up in disbelief.

She saw the three squad members who had just vowed to protect her lying dead on the floor.

And the only one left standing… was none other than her vice-captain, Zhu Xiang!!!

“It was you!!!”

Qin Yueran stared at Zhu Xiang, who clutched a dagger, his face twisted in a vicious snarl.

“That’s right, it was me!”

“If I wasn’t after you, what kind of fucking idiot would follow you out of the Security Bureau?”

“I gave you a chance, but you had to turn me down!”

“If you’d just said yes, I wouldn’t have betrayed you.”

“Hmph! This is all your fault!”

“Xiaosong and the others, they died because of you too!”

Xiaosong was the young man who had just offered to cover her retreat.

And now, he was the first to fall.

Staring at Zhu Xiang’s snarling face, Qin Yueran finally understood everything.

The smug looks on Yang Jun’s and Zhu Xiang’s faces made her sick to her stomach.

“You animals!!!”

But her curse didn’t faze Yang Jun or Zhu Xiang in the slightest.

To them, Qin Yueran was just a fish on the chopping block.

“Well done, Zhu Xiang!”

“The Security Bureau Chief said that when you get back, he’ll let you take over Qin Yueran’s position.”

“From now on, you’ll be one of the Security Bureau’s captains.”

Zhu Xiang was overjoyed.

This had been one of his conditions for betraying Qin Yueran.

‘Before the apocalypse, I was stuck, unable to get promoted.’

‘I was trapped in this vice-captain position.’

‘Now, in the apocalypse, I finally have a chance to take the top spot.’

But that wasn’t what he wanted most.

It was this bitch, Qin Yueran!!!

Zhu Xiang stared at Qin Yueran’s voluptuous body, barely able to control himself.

Although Yang Jun framed it as a suggestion, his tone made it clear it was a decision.

Zhu Xiang knew he couldn’t refuse.

Gritting his teeth, he nodded in agreement.

“Hahaha! I knew you wouldn’t be so petty, Captain Zhu.”

“Don’t worry, don’t worry. The first taste of our Security Bureau’s little belle will definitely go to you, Captain Zhu.”

With Yang Jun’s assurance, Zhu Xiang’s last reservations vanished.

And so, the two men brazenly advanced on Qin Yueran, step by step.

Hearing their exchange, Qin Yueran’s face had long since become a mask of frost.

‘I will never let these two men defile me.’

She was already prepared to take her own life.

‘But before that, I have to avenge Xiaosong and the others…’

“Don’t be afraid, Captain Qin.”

The arrogant voices of Yang Jun and Zhu Xiang filled the room.

But as they laughed, Qin Yueran—the ‘fish on the chopping block’—suddenly struck.

She had completely lost the strength to resist.

That last attack had taken every ounce of her strength.

To her dismay, however, even though her all-out strike had sent both men flying, it wasn’t long before they both struggled back to their feet.

“You asked for this!”

“You dare to attack us? Then don’t blame us for getting rough.”

“Get her, boys! Take turns on her!”

“FUCK!!!”

Though Qin Yueran’s strike had heavily wounded the two men, it had also enraged them.

She watched as Yang Jun and Zhu Xiang slowly closed in.

But she was powerless, unable to move a muscle.

She could clearly feel her life force draining away, like fine sand through an hourglass.

A tide of despair and indignation washed over her, drowning her body and soul…..
