Chapter 299 - 288: Yulong Base in Peril
Chapter 299: Chapter 288: Yulong Base in Peril
Mengde had indeed considered taking Jiang Haibing and his people back to Yulong Base immediately.
But then he remembered—hadn’t they stayed in the city to build a base precisely to gather survivors?
They probably wouldn’t want to leave now.
The reality was just as Mengde had predicted.
Jiang Haibing and the others all refused.
However, after Mengde’s warning, they still gave him their assurance.
They promised to evacuate the city district immediately if anything went wrong.
Mengde didn’t press the matter further.
He had more important things to do now.
If the blood-red acid mist and crimson aggregates could appear in the center of East Sea City...
...then could the same thing be happening in the Economic Development Zone?
Mengde didn’t have time to dwell on it.
He hurriedly drove the RV, racing toward Yulong Base at top speed.
He had a bad feeling that the women back at the base were not in a good situation...
..........
Yulong Base.
Just as Mengde had sensed, Jiayi and the others were currently frowning.
Their eyes were fixed on the bridge leading to the base, where a horde of zombies was continuously pouring across.
Just a few days ago, after Mengde had left...
For some unknown reason, the number of zombies attacking the entrance to Yulong Base had increased dramatically.
Not only had their numbers grown, but their quality had also improved.
The zombies leading the charge were no longer ordinary Seventh and Eighth Tier ones.
They were now at Tier Nine!
The kind that was just one step away from breaking through to the Star Map Level.
One could only imagine the immense pressure Jiayi and the others were under.
But that wasn’t even the worst of it.
After all, this group of women had all reached Tier Nine.
Some, like Xiaoyao who had awakened her powers early, had even reached Tier Nine Peak.
In a fight, they could easily use their superior numbers to their advantage!
Not to mention they had Jiayi, a One Star Star Map Level Superpower User.
Therefore, before today, Jiayi and the others had been able to handle the situation with ease.
But today was different.
Because just two hours ago, a creature covered in crimson had suddenly appeared outside the base.
Yes!
It had appeared suddenly, with no warning whatsoever!
However, if Mengde were here, he would have found it disturbingly familiar.
This crimson monster was a twisted creation forcibly woven from countless pieces of flesh, blood vessels, and bone.
Its form was somewhere between a human and some kind of arthropod, standing about three meters tall.
But it did not stand upright; instead, it hovered above the ground in a bizarre, stooped posture, as if suspended by invisible threads.
Its body had no fixed shape but constantly writhed and reassembled itself, like a lump of crimson clay being kneaded by an unseen hand.
It swelled and contracted, as if each breath reshaped its own structure of flesh and blood.
Its skin... if you could even call it "skin"—was not a complete epidermis.
Instead, it was a lattice of hundreds of blood vessels of varying thickness, like some kind of morbid knitwork.
These vessels were not still; they squirmed like living snakes, contracting and expanding.
With every pulse, viscous plasma seeped out, dripping to the ground and forming corrosive pools of blood.
Its head was a "face" topped with three hearts, embedded in a triangular formation at the top of its "neck."
The three hearts were not of the same origin—the first was a human heart, its surface covered in bluish-purple angiomas;
the second resembled the heart of some beast, with gnarled muscles that produced a low, muffled thud as it beat;
the third was completely deformed, covered in pustules that squeezed out foul-smelling pus and blood with every contraction.
These three hearts did not exist independently but were forcibly stitched together by countless tiny nerve fibers and tendons, forming a distorted "face."
Its chest cavity was not sealed but looked as if it had been sliced open by a sharp object and then crudely sewn shut, leaving a crisscross of scars.
Through these gaps, one could see not organs, but countless tangled tendons, nerves, and undigested bone fragments.
They shuttled back and forth like threads on a loom, as if constantly weaving new structures of flesh and blood.
Most unsettling of all, its abdomen was not solid but a translucent, crimson, gel-like substance, within which floated unformed, embryo-like chunks of flesh.
These chunks of flesh sometimes curled up like fetuses, other times stretched into malformed limbs, as if Malagon’s body was a ceaseless factory of flesh, constantly producing twisted life.
What was horrifying was that these regurgitated, half-formed, coagulated larvae crawled like deformed fetuses.
After letting out a sharp cry, they were then pierced by its tentacles and reabsorbed.
The crimson monster’s spine was not a single column but composed of six twisted bone spurs.
They extended from its back like the limbs of some insect, yet possessed the flexibility of a spine.
These spurs were not smooth bone but covered in barbs and serrations, coated with a translucent fascia that made a teeth-grinding scraping sound with every movement.
Chunks of un-rotted flesh hung from the bone spurs, swaying like trophies.
As for its lower body, it had no legs in the traditional sense, but rather dozens of thick blood vessels tangled into "pseudopods" that supported its body like an octopus’s tentacles.
Pus and blood constantly seeped from its entire body, but these fluids were not meaningless secretions; they were like some sort of ritualistic "decoration."
Tiny blood crystals had condensed on the surface of its blood vessels, embedded in its flesh like rubies.
Although it could not speak, its entire body of flesh "vocalized"—the beating of its hearts formed a dull drumbeat.
The rubbing of its blood vessels produced a hissing whisper, and the clashing of its bone spurs sounded like some sort of pathological percussion.
When it grew "excited," all the blood vessels in its body would resonate, emitting a hum similar to a pipe organ, as if performing some blasphemous "symphony."
And upon hearing this "symphony," all the zombies on the scene fell into a frenzy.
As a result, the attacks of many zombies grew much stronger.
Ever since this crimson monster appeared, the entire situation on the battlefield had undergone an earth-shattering change.
Before, Jiayi and the others could still rely on their Superpower Level advantage to counter-attack and even kill the invading Tier Nine zombies.
But after this crimson monster appeared, the besieging zombies seemed as if they were on stimulants.
Their originally grayish-white eyes were all stained blood-red.
Gradually, Jiayi and the others began to struggle to hold their ground.
Furthermore, when this crimson monster appeared, it also brought with it many Tier Nine Peak zombies.
Even the two zombies that constantly followed by its side were at the Star Map Level!
And that was to say nothing of the creature’s own strength.
The situation at Yulong Base was now extremely dire.
It was in constant danger of falling.
The women around Jiayi were growing anxious.
"Jiayi, what do we do now?"
