Apocalypse: Grinding EXP through Hunting
Chapter 310 - 247: Tang Wen Takes the Stage
Chapter 310: Chapter 247: Tang Wen Takes the Stage
Fortunately, her attack wasn’t fast.
He raised his hand and hurled all four steel axes.
His aim wasn’t to injure her, but to shatter her rhythm and buy himself some time.
The vibrations grew increasingly intense.
The Vibrating Blade disturbed the air, causing the Flying Axes to lose their accuracy. The blade’s speed remained completely unaffected. Having built up enough momentum, it suddenly accelerated!
"HAAAH!"
A furious roar erupted.
The Sixth Grade from the Power Division raised his right fist. The muscles in his arm bulged, nearly tearing through his armor.
From afar, he looked like a deformed monster, his arm appearing thicker than a Siege Hammer.
He intended to shatter the blade’s vibrations—to overpower finesse with brute force!
Great Power Divine Fist—Heaven-Supporting Earth-Standing!
Blade and fist collided.
The vibrating force surged through him with overwhelming power. The muscles of his steel-hard arm rippled like soft waves, undulating without end.
He lost!
Two moves!
Everyone from the Giant Rock Martial Arts Hall fell silent.
Shi Lei said, "The White Tiger Saintess’s heritage is truly profound. I am deeply impressed."
The Little Jade Tiger sensed their dejection. With a soft "awoo," it glanced at them lazily. "Within the tribe, the Saintess is also first among those of her rank."
The members of the Martial Arts Hall nodded slightly.
The others from Ganshan City nodded as well.
’The number one Sixth Grade from a Fourth Grade Influence like the White Tiger Tribe.’
’No wonder we couldn’t win. She’s just too strong.’
’We just lost a little too quickly.’
After the injured Sixth Grade was carried back, the only one who hadn’t yet fought was Tang Wen.
He looked at the Little Jade Tiger on the table, resisting the urge to go over and give it a good, vigorous petting. "I am Tang Wen of the Black Water Gang," he said. "It’s my turn next. The Saintess has fought several consecutive battles and must be drained. Please, let her return and rest for a moment!"
"Awoo~ You’re a handsome one, kid, but for an Extraordinary, strength is what matters. And you want the Saintess to rest?"
Being looked down on by the little Fourth Grade tiger only made Tang Wen want to give it a few vigorous pets even more.
But he didn’t dare. He just smiled nonchalantly. "It’s precisely because my strength is so low that the Saintess should rest. Even if I lose in a single move, at least I’ll have lost to the Saintess at her absolute best, right?"
The Little Jade Tiger shot him a sidelong glance. "It’d still be one move, wouldn’t it?"
"It sounds better when you tell the story later," Tang Wen said with a shrug. Staring at the jade-colored fur and the chubby little face, he felt an irrepressible urge.
He’d always loved giving chubby, furry little animals a good petting.
He found them too troublesome to raise himself, but he was a regular at cat cafes, just for the experience.
This Little Jade Tiger had a gentle temperament, not at all bloodthirsty—and its companion, the Saintess, had defeated the City Lord of Ganshan City without injury, even holding back at the end.
It even acted obediently, letting the Sixth Grade Saintess pet it like a common cat.
A bold idea suddenly struck him. He stood up, took a few tentative steps closer, and asked, "Elder Jade Tiger, if I can withstand one move from the Saintess, when I get back... can I?"
As he spoke, his eyes were locked onto the Jade Tiger’s fluffy little body, sizing it up from top to bottom.
"Awoo~"
The Little Jade Tiger rolled over. "Can you what? And what’s with that look in your eyes, kid?"
The Jade Tiger waved its paws, revealing its pink little pads.
Tang Wen quickly retreated with an embarrassed laugh.
The moment he returned to his seat, he received a barrage of secret vocal warnings from his master, Shui Yun, Aunt Lian, and Li Zi.
His master, Shui Qianjun, said helplessly, "You brat, couldn’t you tell? That little tiger is a female. And you actually want to get your hands on her! What were you thinking?"
Tang Wen replied to each of them in turn, then asked back, "Don’t you want to pet her?"
They all fell silent.
Who were they kidding? Of course they wanted to pet her.
The Little Jade Tiger was heart-stoppingly adorable!
But she was a Fourth Grade.
If she threw a tantrum, a city as large as Ganshan could be wiped out in an instant.
"Awoo!" The adorable but fierce tiger called out in the Saintess’s direction.
If she hadn’t called out, it would have been one thing. But after she did, even more people wanted to pet her.
Tang Wen glanced over and saw a group of burly, bald-headed men at the next table who looked like they were itching to have a go themselves.
「A quarter of an hour later.」
The Saintess returned. After briefly regulating her breathing, she looked toward Tang Wen.
He gave a slight smile. "Holy Daughter, please."
The Saintess smiled. "Young Master Tang Wen, there’s no need to be so formal. You can just call me Hu Lan."
"Hu Lan. A fine name."
Behind them, the crowd exchanged complicated looks. ’Is this the first time the Saintess has addressed an opponent by name?’
’So what if the kid’s a little handsome?’
The fighters who had taken their turns earlier exchanged glances. ’Um, was the Saintess that polite with us?’
’So what if he’s a little handsome?’
Tang Wen and the Saintess walked side by side, talking and laughing.
They didn’t look like they were heading to a dangerous duel, but rather like a perfect couple, courting one another.
Patriarch Chen spoke up. "Niece Shui, your Uncle Chen isn’t one to stir the pot."
He jutted his chin in Tang Wen’s direction, the very picture of a pot-stirrer. The only thing missing was a sign on his forehead declaring his intentions.
Shui Yun gave a charming smile. "No matter what, my junior brother will always be my junior brother."
A flicker of satisfaction crossed her eyes. ’What’s my junior brother’s... is mine.’
’If my junior brother can get together with the White Tiger Saintess, then it’s as if *I* have gotten together with the White Tiger Saintess.’
’The three great families have been too closed off for too long.’
She shook her head inwardly. ’Is Patriarch Chen’s vision really so narrow?’
’My junior brother is incomparably handsome and exceptionally talented. He was born to win over the White Tiger Saintess!’
’If she minds, I’m willing to be the lesser wife.’
’And if she still minds... hmm, that just means my posture isn’t low enough. I’ll just have to be even more humble and subservient until I move her with my sincerity!’
’Shui Yun felt she could handle it...’
Shui Qianjun glanced at Patriarch Chen. "The children have all grown up. The future belongs to them."
His words were cryptic, but everyone understood the implication.
He was implying that the Black Water Gang would one day belong to Shui Yun and Tang Wen.
Out on the open field, Tang Wen and Saintess Hu Lan now stood facing each other at a distance.
"You’ve seen my techniques. I will be on the offensive, so be careful," she said, like a gentle older sister worried about her little brother.
Tang Wen nodded slightly. "Miss Lan, you shouldn’t be careless either. I might just get a chance to injure you."
"Alright."
The two looked at each other and smiled.
They called out to each other from a distance, their voices anything but quiet.
