Chapter 426: Chapter 301: Tang Wen’s Bamboozling 2
"But there are several of them. Besides, I can’t just keep hiding forever, can I?"
"This old turtle can’t help you. I’m very slow, and I don’t have any way to become invisible. Thunder and lightning follow me wherever I go."
Suddenly, Hu Yun’s voice cut in, "My Invisibility comes from one of the Curiosities. Your body is too large to hide. However, my White Tiger bloodline has a Secret Technique to shrink in size. I can teach it to you."
"Shrink?" The Thunder Rock Crocodile Turtle’s voice held a note of pleasant surprise, but it quickly calmed down. "Do you need me to help you kill the black-robed people?"
Tang Wen took over the conversation. "This Secret Technique is rare. Once you learn it, you can conceal your true strength and have a way to escape future dangers. If possible, we hope you will protect us for fifty years."
The Crocodile Turtle was taken aback. Even though it had a good impression of Tang Wen, it still shook its head repeatedly. "That’s too long."
Tang Wen reached out, grabbed the little white cat, and showed it to the Thunder Rock Crocodile Turtle. "Look. This is actually a White Tiger. Help me block the lightning for a moment, and I’ll have it transform for you to see."
The latter nodded in agreement.
The little white cat, Hu Niannian’s transformed state, leaped to the ground. It grew in the wind, turning into a White Tiger.
"Truly wondrous," the Thunder Rock Crocodile Turtle remarked with deep feeling.
It could change its size and even retract its aura.
An overly powerful aura was inconvenient.
BOOM!
SWOOSH!
The thunderclouds roared, and a bolt of purple lightning struck down.
The Thunder Rock Crocodile Turtle’s body shot into the air, intercepting the purple lightning bolt.
"This is actually a good place for Cultivation," Hu Yun said, a hint of envy in her voice.
"I’m not even three hundred years old yet. Fifty years is too long." The Thunder Rock Crocodile Turtle was tempted.
Time was of the essence, so Tang Wen quickly conferred with Hu Yun via voice transmission.
The size-changing Secret Technique wasn’t as profound as Tang Wen made it out to be, so Hu Yun didn’t mind.
Her only condition was that the Crocodile Turtle would have to practice with her in the future.
An idea sparked in Tang Wen’s mind, and he signaled for her not to speak. "You need to think this through. Fifty years isn’t actually that long for you, and it’s not like I spend all my days fighting and killing. Once you help me eliminate this wave of enemies, you can go back to the Thunder Jade Mine to continue your Cultivation."
"Ten years! I am willing to serve you for ten years," the Thunder Rock Crocodile Turtle said slowly.
Tang Wen immediately sweetened the deal. "You know of the Ten Thousand Mountains, right? You can follow the White Tiger Race there to train! You can seek opportunities for a breakthrough."
’Isn’t this just a fancier way of saying it’ll be a hired thug for the tribe?’ The invisible Hu Yun raised an eyebrow.
On her shoulder, the two shrunken White Tiger kittens nodded incessantly.
’This Tang Wen guy is pretty cool.’
’He really has our White Tiger Tribe’s best interests at heart.’
"Twenty years!" the Thunder Rock Crocodile Turtle offered proactively.
Tang Wen clapped his hands. "I’ll have that woman from the Thunder Department, the prodigy of the White Tiger Race, spar with you often! A Thunder Department Expert is a rare find, not to mention she has a complete Cultivation Technique legacy! With your long lifespan, what’s a little time like this?"
’This is a complete reversal of cause and effect,’ Hu Yun thought, stunned.
The three-hundred-year-old Crocodile Turtle closed its eyes, then opened them again. "Fine! Fifty years it is! But I won’t fight a Fourth Grade for you."
Tang Wen smiled. "Our White Tiger Tribe has a Fourth Grade. If you perform well, you might even receive some guidance."
"Really?!" The Old Crocodile Turtle grew excited.
"In the Ten Thousand Mountains, the White Tigers are peerless. Without a Fourth Grade overseeing things, how could we have such a reputation?"
’Since when did our race have that saying?’
Hu Yun and the Three-headed White Tiger couldn’t help but feel question marks pop up in their minds.
Clearly, Tang Wen had just made that up on the spot.
"Twenty-one, pass the Transformation Technique to it," Tang Wen said calmly.
Hu Niannian jumped down, pulled out a piece of Jade from who knows where, and tossed it lightly to the Thunder Rock Crocodile Turtle.
"The commotion here was too big just now. Let’s find another place to learn this."
The Thunder Rock Crocodile Turtle was stunned. "If I don’t learn it, how am I supposed to leave quietly? The thunderclouds above my head are so thick, they’ll have to strike me several hundred times before they dissipate. If I can’t hide my aura, the clouds will just follow me... Huh?"
While they were talking, lightning struck the Crocodile Turtle another seven or eight times.
In the interval before the next lightning strike, Tang Wen simply cast his Stealth Technique on it.
CRACK!
The lightning in the sky struck down as usual.
The Crocodile Turtle swayed slightly, its body shifting several meters away.
The lightning bolt slammed into its original spot, leaving behind a scorched patch of ground.
"Let’s go."
Tang Wen expanded the range of his Stealth Technique.
It enveloped Hu Yun and the other two little white cats as well.
Under the cover of Tang Wen’s Spiritual Power, they could all see each other.
"Over there!"
Tang Wen spotted a small patch of thunderclouds.
Not knowing his plan, Hu Yun didn’t object.
After walking for about half an hour, they finally arrived directly beneath the thunderclouds.
Hu Yun couldn’t hold back any longer and asked, "What are we doing here?"
It looked like just a lone patch of thunderclouds, but as soon as the two Fifth Grades lost their Concealment, more clouds would quickly gather.
"I’m going to run an experiment to see what my limits are. If the thunderclouds come, remember to block them for me."
Hu Yun glanced at him but didn’t reply.
The newly recruited Crocodile Turtle also blinked its small eyes, not knowing what Tang Wen was up to.
Tang Wen focused his mind. His Stealth Technique unfolded like a giant cloth, slowly enveloping the thunderclouds.
Half a minute passed.
The small, lone patch of thunderclouds was concealed by him.
"What is this?" Hu Yun was surprised.
’Using a Stealth Technique to conceal thunderclouds?’
’What a novel idea!’
Without waiting for Tang Wen to ask, Hu Yun took off her Moon Traveling Clothes and stepped outside the range of his Stealth Technique.
Tang Wen stared intently at the thunderclouds.
Three seconds, five seconds, ten seconds, half a minute... five minutes passed.
No lightning struck Hu Yun.
He quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
Feng San Niang and the Three-headed White Tiger disguised as little white cats all had joyous expressions in their eyes.
As a Thunder Department Fifth Grade Exotic Beast, the Thunder Rock Crocodile Turtle was even more astonished.
In its memory, nothing could block Thunder.
As a long-lived species with plenty of time, it had tried many experiments.
But nothing could ever insulate against Thunder.
Even if it wore one-meter-thick Armor made of giant rocks, a sufficiently violent bolt of lightning could instantly pierce through it!
The group had just rested for a few minutes.
Hu Yun looked up at the sky. "The real test is here."
More thunderclouds gathered, drifting over as if they had sensed something.
Tang Wen found it strange. He really couldn’t figure out how the thunderclouds distinguished who was a Fifth Grade.
His Spiritual Power extended outwards, like casting a net to catch fish.
When the thunderclouds drew near and were about to unleash their Thunder...
Tang Wen immediately pulled them into his Concealment range.
No lightning fell.
It was a success.
The two masses of thunderclouds merged into one under the Concealment, obscuring a large patch of the sky.
Flashes of lightning flickered faintly, but ultimately, none of it struck down.
Tang Wen’s heart was mostly at ease.
Hu Yun sighed. "I never thought the Stealth Technique could actually be used like this."
"Why don’t you give it a try?" Tang Wen was already starting to feel the strain.
The experience for his Expert Level Stealth Technique was rising rapidly.
It was increasing every minute.
Clearly, the Experience Panel approved of Tang Wen’s death-defying experiment.
"I can’t do it. How did you train your Stealth Technique to this level?" Hu Yun didn’t understand. "Practicing the Stealth Technique is time-consuming and laborious. If I wanted to infiltrate a city, wouldn’t it be easier to just kill everyone who sees me? You should be practicing the Night Divine Fist!"
Tang Wen couldn’t explain, so he changed the subject. "Our philosophies are pretty similar. I don’t want to mess with Concealment either. If you gave me three thousand Fifth Grade experts, wouldn’t it be better to just surround the city and force everyone inside to submit?"
As they spoke...
More thunderclouds drew near.
So many that Tang Wen couldn’t handle them all. Thunder blasted down, only to be scattered by Hu Yun.
Just as he was about to try concealing the thunderclouds again, Hu Yun suddenly frowned. "It’s too late. Two people are chasing us."
Tang Wen quickly adjusted, preparing to face the enemy.
Before a single breath’s time had passed...
SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK!
A large rat rushed in, followed by two people in black robes.
The moment the two saw Tang Wen and Feng San Niang, they attacked without a second word, not even bothering to check if anyone else was hidden nearby or if there were any traps.
They charged straight over.
WHOOSH!
Tang Wen released the concealed thunderclouds.
SWOOSH—
The black-robed people’s fists, carrying a wind that kicked up debris, punched toward Tang Wen in unison.
At the level of Fifth Grade combatants, their speed was incredible.
Tang Wen couldn’t react at all.
Just as the fists were about to smash into his face...
THUD!
A dull thud sounded.
The black-robed figures’ wooden expressions changed drastically in an instant.
’This rebound force... was it like punching a steel fortress?’
The Crocodile Turtle’s shell appeared.
CRACKLE!
The several thunderclouds overhead unleashed bolts of Thunder that shot straight toward the Crocodile Turtle on the ground.
The latter pulled its head into its shell, assuming a posture with its front low and its back high.
The Thunder slammed into the glossy black shell and was immediately reflected away!
By this time, Tang Wen had already used Instant Step to retreat.
And the white lightning, like a wild dance of silver snakes, blasted toward the area in front of the Crocodile Turtle—right at the two black-robed people!
Beneath their black robes, their ferocious red eyes remained as impassive as an ancient well.
