Apocalypse: I Can See Health Bars

Chapter 297: A Little Clash (Part 2)

However, its sheer size and inertia made it difficult to handle with the precision of a much lighter weapon; it was far from an extension of his own arm.

He gripped the hilt with both hands, slowly twisting the enormous blade behind his back into a power-charging stance. With the tip of the sword resting on the ground, he breathed slowly, tensed every muscle in his body, and fixed his eyes on the crawling health bar.

5999…

6000!

‘Now!’

BOOM—!

There was no flashy opening move. Lin Fan stomped his foot, and the brick floor of the cold storage instantly fractured in a circle around it. He used the impact to surge forward half a step, closing the distance until only half a hilt’s length separated them, his face almost pressing against the giant pig!

The spine of the greatsword in his hand roared, unleashing immense force as it carved a piercing black afterimage through the air, swinging horizontally in a full-moon arc to slash at the giant pig’s thick neck!

Lin Fan held nothing back in this strike. His pure strength and speed were augmented by the instantly-applied sharpness of his Critical State, and the swinging blade compressed the air until it let out a piercing boom.

However, the beast’s instincts were astonishingly fast.

Just as Lin Fan deactivated his concealment crystal, in the split second before the blade could touch the giant pig, its tightly shut eyes snapped open! Its bloodshot, basketball-sized pupils instantly filled with the ultimate fury of being disturbed.

VMMMM—!

A strange, high-frequency hum instantly drowned out the sound of the greatsword slicing through the air.

All at once, the giant pig’s limp, gray-black bristles shot up, each one standing on end like a steel needle. A layer of silvery light, flowing like mercury, seeped from beneath its skin, instantly covering the half of its body facing Lin Fan. A layer of air-distorting energy also condensed in his direction, meeting the oncoming blade!

SSSKKRR—!

The silvery-white light on the greatsword’s edge slammed into a shockwave identical to the one used by the Giant-Armed Zombie, creating an incredibly sharp, grating sound. However, the energy efficiency of the Critical State’s sharpness was clearly far superior to that half-baked shockwave.

The hazy energy on the surface of the giant pig’s body parted like water cleaved by a knife, waves of it splitting to either side. The greatsword passed through the energy layer and slammed viciously onto the pig’s hide, which now flowed with that silvery light!

There was no spray of flesh and blood, no shattering of bone.

The supposedly invincible greatsword cleaved straight through the layer of silver light and sliced in. With a horizontal swipe, a massive gash nearly two meters deep and four meters long appeared on the giant pig’s body!

But the damage was ridiculously low!

The enormous wound was blown open by the release of energy, its edges peeling back to reveal the cross-section within…

There wasn’t a single trace of red, no shattered bones, and certainly no gushing organs.

It was an unnerving, bizarre expanse of metallic silver.

It wasn’t a clean cut, but a strange, grinding friction.

The terrifying kinetic energy carried by the greatsword was like a high-speed train slamming into a dense non-Newtonian fluid. The silvery tissue quivered and churned violently, and the energy released in that instant created visible ripples of distortion in the air.

“…” Lin Fan felt as if his full-powered strike had just sliced through a mass of viscous, silvery-white rubber. The force was deflected and dispersed. Just as he’d predicted, he couldn’t break its defense or inflict any real damage.

Pale white sparks, born from the friction of energy, erupted like fireworks between man and beast, illuminating the dim cold storage.

Provoked by the assault, the giant pig’s fury was fully ignited.

It let out a terrifying howl, its massive body amplifying the sound into a deafening roar. It wasn’t just sound; a tangible shockwave erupted from its mouth, sending countless cracks spreading across the side wall of the cold storage already pierced by its tusks.

Feeling constrained by the building, it began to thrash its massive body—a body large enough to fill half the cold storage—wildly.

Encased in the silvery light, the thick, heavy folds of fat were no longer a burden but had become lethal battering rams. As the giant pig thrashed, the rolling, tide-like folds of its silvery hide slammed violently against the cold storage walls.

THUD! THUD! THUD!

Each massive impact was accompanied by the trembling of the walls.

The tusks embedded deep in the wall suddenly wrenched upward. With terrifying strength comparable to a heavy excavator, they tore a massive V-shaped hole through the entire opposite wall. Immediately after, the heavy, reinforced concrete roof was heaved upward by the tusks. Prefabricated slabs cracked and collapsed, kicking up a cloud of dust that blotted out the sun.

The instant his attack proved fruitless, Lin Fan had already withdrawn his sword, his movements impossibly swift.

His toes tapped rapidly across the fractured floor as he retreated in a blur. The moment he crossed the threshold of the cold storage, his concealment crystal activated once more. With a flicker like a drawn curtain, his presence vanished completely from the monster’s senses.

RUMBLE—

With a final, tremendous crash, the better part of the cold storage roof caved in entirely.

Lin Fan stood silently atop an overturned heavy-duty truck at the edge of the parking lot.

Amidst the dust cloud, the behemoth slowly rose to its feet, towering much higher than even Lin Fan, who was standing on the truck.

Rubble and debris slid from its broad back like a small landslide. Sunlight streamed through the collapsed roof, landing squarely on the enormous, four-meter-long gash.

Within the massive cut—a wound that looked terrifying even on its ten-meter-plus frame—countless silver threads were frantically weaving together in the sunlight, like tiny tentacles forcibly pulling the edges of the gash closed.

The good news, however, was that while the physical wound was beginning to heal, its health bar—stuck at [5928]—wasn’t regenerating as rapidly as ‘Riverview’s’ had.
