Chapter 299: Chapter 239: What Sane Person Calls That Thing a Weapon?

"Move in!"

On the access road behind the factory, the assault vehicle’s engine let out a low roar.

Ye Qingniao and Cheng Qi had been posted by the main road. Listening to the commotion inside the factory, it sounded as if a whole demolition crew was tearing the place apart. Every booming crash made their hearts leap into their throats.

At this point, the noise from the assault vehicle’s engine clearly didn’t matter anymore. Cheng Qi slammed on the gas, and the assault vehicle shot onto the access road on the north side of the factory.

The moment they screeched to a halt, before they could even push their doors open, they saw four figures leap down from the roof, which was over ten meters high!

"Over here!" Ye Qingniao cried out. She and Cheng Qi quickly jumped out of the vehicle to meet them.

The first to land was Lin Fan.

He was carrying Ye Qingzhou in his arms, bridal style. This wasn’t for romance, but for protection.

The instant his feet touched the ground, every muscle fiber in Lin Fan’s body tensed and then relaxed in a controlled sequence. His knees bent with a dampening effect, his entire body compressing slowly like a spring.

With a constitution tough enough for two thousand Life Value, he could probably slam headfirst into the concrete and walk away without a scratch. But Ye Qingzhou, in his arms, was just an ordinary person. If Lin Fan had landed hard like a stone, even if he himself was fine, the immense, instantaneous deceleration would have snapped Ye Qingzhou’s fragile neck and spine into three pieces from the sheer force of inertia.

This was why he always volunteered to carry Ye Qingzhou whenever they had to do any leaping around. It wasn’t because he had any ulterior motives; it was simply safer this way.

The human body was fragile. He worried that sometimes "superhumans" like Chu Zhaozhao and Su Qing might forget that.

He used his own bones and muscles as shock absorbers, perfectly receiving and dissipating a force that would have shattered an ordinary person’s leg bones, not letting a single stray shockwave transfer to the woman in his arms.

"Hahh..."

With the impact absorbed, Lin Fan straightened up and casually set Ye Qingzhou down by the side of the road.

Although his face was a little pale from taking that hit from the giant pig, his series of movements was as smooth as flowing water, without a single pause or tremor. He was as steady as a machine.

The moment he’d taken that tusk sweep from the giant pig, the armor crystal had drained a fifth of his energy just to resist the blow.

And while the golden light had blocked the energy impact and some of the kinetic force, the tidal wave of momentum had still slammed into him squarely. It felt like his internal organs had taken a heavy punch, instantly deducting nearly a hundred points of his Life Value.

Sent flying, Lin Fan had equipped the activation crystal before he even landed. Relying on his enhanced physique and swift reflexes, he found a foothold in mid-air, pierced through the roof without pause, and burst straight out.

WHOOSH—

Before anyone could even catch their breath, a massive cloud of fire suddenly erupted from inside the factory behind them, spewing out of a high ventilation opening!

That was the result of a few barrels of [Gasoline (M)] that Lin Fan had casually tossed from his backpack a second before he’d used the wall to run up and break through the roof.

The barrels had smashed against the wall and the fuel vaporized. When the collapsing rubble struck the concrete floor or metal tracks, even the tiniest spark was enough to ignite it.

The explosive blast, mixed with billowing black smoke and scorching tongues of flame, burst through the shattered roof, blackening a patch of the sky above.

"This much gasoline won’t burn for long. Get in the truck, now!" Lin Fan roared in a low voice. With a one-handed vault, he flipped himself directly into the gunner’s position on the roof.

"Hang on tight! Go!"

Cheng Qi slammed the accelerator to the floor. The assault vehicle’s engine roared, its tires kicking up standing water as it shot forward like an arrow released from a bow, carrying its passengers away.

Cheng Qi drove while Ye Qingniao sat in the passenger seat on watch. Chu Zhaozhao, Su Qing, and Ye Qingzhou were squeezed into the back seat.

Lin Fan, meanwhile, stood commandingly in the gunner’s position on the roof. The fierce wind whipped his hair about as he held onto the roll cage with one hand and gripped the machine gun with the other, his eyes fixed on the fire and pillar of smoke receding in the distance.

After they had driven nearly a kilometer and confirmed the giant pig wasn’t pursuing them, Lin Fan finally slapped the roof of the truck. "Alright, pull over."

The vehicle slowed to a stop. The view here was open, so if the monster did give chase, they would spot it immediately.

The afternoon sun grew hotter, but after the life-or-death chase they had just endured, the sweltering heat felt like nothing. Inside the truck, everyone was covered in sweat and dust, gasping for air as they tried to calm their racing hearts.

"Alright, let’s hear it. Any thoughts?"

Lin Fan broke the silence, hanging upside down from the roof to peer at the shaken faces inside the vehicle.

But his gaze lingered mainly on Ye Qingzhou. In that last fight, she had been the real observer.

"That thing is made of metal?" Before Ye Qingzhou could speak, Chu Zhaozhao’s hand shot up first, her big eyes flashing with excitement. "Big Bro, I can control metal! What if I try..."

"It weighs dozens of tons..." Lin Fan said irritably, reaching through the bars to flick Chu Zhaozhao on the forehead. "Sure, go give it a try. Come back soon."

"Ow! That hurts!" Chu Zhaozhao clutched her forehead and dove into Su Qing’s arms, pretending to cry. "Waaaah..."

"Metal? Dozens of tons?" Ye Qingniao’s eyes went wide as if she’d recognized some keywords. She looked at Lin Fan. "One bolt of my lightning—mmph!"

"Where am I supposed to find lightning for you on a clear day like this? Wait for a rainy day..." Lin Fan pushed her face away and turned to Su Qing. "Next."

"Colonel Ye just said, ’It’s too short’..." Su Qing didn’t answer Lin Fan’s question. Instead, while cradling and stroking Chu Zhaozhao’s head, she turned to Ye Qingzhou and asked, "Was she referring to that weapon?"
