Apocalypse: I'm Bound to a Mobile Lottery Shop
Chapter 349: We Zombies Don’t Eat Trash
Chapter 349: Chapter 349: We Zombies Don’t Eat Trash
Although she knew this was part of the plan, her eyes still went red with alarm as she watched the starch sausage machine get trampled.
She struggled and resisted with all her might, desperately grabbing onto one person’s thigh and biting down hard.
Through the fabric of his pants, Jessica Corbin could taste blood and hear a scream that pierced the heavens.
"Who are you people!" Frost Shaw roared as he rushed over with Roman Rowe, Leo Colby, and Owen Warren.
The group of thugs wasn’t weak, but they were no match for a Tenth-tier Zombie and an Eighth-rank Superpower User.
The group made short work of the thugs, defeating them in moments.
Frost Shaw followed Lily Hart’s instructions. "Throw them directly into a zombie horde! And make sure you watch until the zombies have finished eating!"
Owen Warren frowned, saying with displeasure, "Zombies don’t eat garbage like this."
After his complaint, he still obediently picked one of them up and followed the others to the zombie horde.
Meanwhile, Roman Rowe took Jessica Corbin and the starch sausage machine back to the RV.
When Lily Hart saw her disheveled state again, she didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "What happened? Didn’t I tell you to protect yourself?"
"We can always make another starch sausage machine; it doesn’t even use up any materials. You, on the other hand, will need time to recover if you get hurt."
Jessica Corbin felt much better after hearing that. Pointing to the bloodstains on her clothes, she said, "It’s not mine."
Her speech was muffled, as if she had something in her mouth. With a BLECH, she spat the contents of her mouth into a trash bag.
On closer inspection, it was a fragment of something mixed with a chunk of bloody flesh, a horrifying sight.
Lily Hart gave her a surprised look. ’Even a kitten will lash out when cornered.’
Jessica Corbin said proudly, "Good thing my teeth are strong, or I wouldn’t have been able to bite that off."
Though tears welled in her eyes, her tone was happy, and the corners of her mouth were turned up in a smile.
After a careful inspection, Lily Hart was finally relieved. She took her hand and had her sit on the sofa.
"First, go take a shower and change your clothes. Tonight, just focus on selling starch sausages at the night market. Don’t worry about anything else," Lily Hart said in a casual tone.
Jessica Corbin choked back a sob but quickly composed herself. She lowered her head and gave a muffled agreement.
’Boss Hart is really the best,’ she thought. ’She treats everyone equally.’
’She doesn’t treat you differently whether you’re a normal person or a superpower user. I love that feeling.’
’I also love the powerful sense of security that surrounds Boss Hart. It’s so reassuring. It’s like as long as she’s here, there’s nothing to worry about.’
She quickly adjusted her mindset, resolving to do her absolute best selling starch sausages!
’I have to make more money for Boss Hart! I have to solve more of her problems for her!’
Lily Hart rested her chin on her hand, lost in thought. There were too many scumbags like that; it was impossible to get rid of them all. But she didn’t want the customers who won prizes to be bullied.
She asked the system, "Do you have a solution?"
The system replied calmly and perfunctorily, "Nope, Host. Things like this are unavoidable. I suggest you try not to dwell on it."
Lily Hart fell silent, cursing the system in her head, but she also knew the truth.
The system had already done its best. It had set a rule right from the start: no one could touch a prize except for the person who won it.
Unless the owner was willing.
Items like the starch sausage machine, the candied fruit skewer machine, and the takoyaki machine also required the owner’s consent before they could be sold.
But in a situation like today’s, Jessica Corbin had already been forced to agree and release her authority over it. The machine was knocked over in the chaos, and there was nothing to be done.
It had all happened too fast to stop.
If what Jessica Corbin said was true, they specialized in bullying people who won good prizes.
Using threats and bribes, even physical violence, to make them submit and force them to hand over their prizes.
’How am I supposed to handle this?’ she fumed. ’I can take care of one, but I can’t take care of them all.’
Infuriating! Lily Hart clenched her fists!
She even considered adding a feature that would make prizes explode if they left their owner, but that was just a fleeting, unrealistic thought.
Just as she was thinking this, Diana Sharp came over and said, "Lily, someone’s outside looking for you."
Lily Hart looked up, her gaze still distant. "Who is it?"
"I don’t recognize him, but he looks pretty powerful. He even has bodyguards," Diana Sharp added. She had seen plenty of people like this since she started following Lily, though.
’Probably some high-level leader from a base, or maybe even a Base Commander.’
"Okay, I’ll go see." Lily Hart stepped out of the RV and her eyes immediately met the man’s.
He certainly looked formidable—a man with the powerful air of a leader, his hair impeccably styled, and flanked by dozens of bodyguards.
Before she could speak, the man preempted her. "I am the Base Commander of Prudence Base, Zane Miller."
’She was noticing a pattern,’ she thought. ’Most of these bases seem to be named after their Base Commanders.’
’The former Nutwood Base, for instance, and its successor, Riveria Base, were both named after people.’
’Then there was Sue Sutton’s Solara Base, and now Zane Miller’s Prudence Base. Simple and easy to remember, really.’
She nodded. "I’m Lily Hart." Her demeanor was composed and dignified, neither servile nor overbearing.
Zane Miller said respectfully, "Boss Hart, might we speak in private?"
Lily Hart raised an eyebrow but agreed with a nod. ’I can’t be sure whose side he’s on yet, so it’s best to be polite for now.’
The two entered the RV’s conference room. Ever since he had stepped on board, the look of surprise in Zane Miller’s eyes hadn’t faded.
There were many photos of the lottery shop and its affiliated stores online, but photos of the shop’s interior were rarely circulated.
This was also his first time seeing the inside of the lottery shop. It was clean, tidy, and surprisingly cozy.
It was just like an ordinary home.
An ordinary home from the age of civilization, of course. The concept of ’home’ barely existed anymore.
There were only temporary footholds, called shelters.
Zane Miller also saw fruit placed casually on the table and a variety of ingredients in the bright kitchen.
For some reason, his mouth began to water, and he felt a pang of envy.
Since they were both in Kaelus, not too far from Central Command, they had enjoyed some of the same benefits and perks.
For example, they also participated in the online supermarket and the daily scramble for fruit.
This had indeed greatly alleviated the problem of resource shortages in their base.
But it had also caused business at the original material exchange depot to plummet, and complaints about it were growing more frequent.
Although he was the Base Commander, the person who managed the material exchange depot had a background more powerful and influential than his own.
Recently, this person had repeatedly proposed banning the online supermarket and the daily purchasing rush within the base.
The goal was to restore business to the material exchange depot and secure their Crystal Core income.
He had been holding out against the pressure, pretending not to hear or see, but this had only drawn more dissatisfaction...
He didn’t know how many more days he could last in his position, but as long as he was there, he would not allow the ban.
The two sat at the conference table. Zane Miller took a deep breath, then stood up and walked around to the side of the table.
He knelt straight down in front of Lily Hart, both knees hitting the floor, his gaze sincere.
"!!" Lily Hart was so startled she shot out of her chair and scrambled to get away from him.
Once she’d regained her footing, she tried to help him up, her voice earnest. "Base Commander, what are you doing? We can talk things out. It’s not the New Year; there’s no need for such a grand ceremony."
It was as if Zane Miller’s knees were glued to the floor; she couldn’t pull him up no matter how hard she tried.
Lily Hart was quite strong now, but she couldn’t budge him an inch.
