Apocalypse: I'm Bound to a Mobile Lottery Shop
Chapter 374: The Busy Cake Shop
Chapter 374: Chapter 374: The Busy Cake Shop
Rhonda Kane glared back, her hands on her hips. "There’s none left!"
The person immediately looked away. "Tch, stingy!"
The other people were already browsing the cake shop. The selection was quite extensive.
There were small desserts, cookies, and buns—quite a variety, at least thirty or forty different kinds.
There were trays and tongs at the entrance.
Some of the more eager customers were already making their selections, using the tongs to place bread and desserts onto their trays.
Once they were done, they took their trays to the register to check out.
There was a scanner that could identify all the items on a tray with a single pass, eliminating the need to enter them one by one.
After scanning, the item information—price, name, and so on—would be displayed on the computer.
Next was bagging the customer’s items.
Luckily, Boss Hart had mentioned earlier that she wanted to order custom bags printed with the cake shop’s name.
That’s right, Rhonda Kane had just named it: Rhonda’s Cake Shop!
She could change it directly in the software, and the sign would update automatically.
For example, the milk crisps this customer had chosen needed to be put in a plastic bag and sealed.
There was also a mango mille-crêpe and a durian mille-crêpe, both of which came in plastic containers and could be placed directly into the bag.
And six small golden buns, which came in a special paper box that fit exactly six.
She was relatively calm as she placed the items into the bag one by one.
Rhonda Kane handed the bag of goods to the customer and stated the price. The customer then tossed the Crystal Cores to the Lucky Cat.
And just like that, one transaction was complete.
There were still many customers waiting to check out, so Rhonda Kane didn’t dare to relax for even a moment.
Meanwhile, Lily Hart was inspecting the shop, looking for areas that needed improvement.
Frost Shaw and the others hurried over, greeted Lily Hart, and also began to pick out some items.
Frost Shaw stood at the entrance and scanned the room, his gaze landing precisely on Lily Hart.
She was strolling around with her hands clasped behind her back, swaggering as if she owned the place—which, he supposed, wasn’t wrong.
He walked over and held out an insulated lunch box. "Here, I brought you food. Eat it while it’s hot."
Lily Hart raised an eyebrow, took it, and opened it. It was still warm.
"Oh, so you do remember me," Lily Hart teased, taking the lunch box outside so she wouldn’t disturb the aroma of the cake shop.
Frost Shaw followed her out and squatted on the ground with her, watching as she shoveled food into her mouth. "What? Didn’t get enough to eat in the cake shop?"
"Ha, you say that, but no matter how good the cake is, it’s not a substitute for a proper meal, right?" Lily Hart said between bites.
’Cake is good, cream is good, but rice is even better!’
She shoveled in two more mouthfuls of rice, chewing and chewing. The more she chewed, the sweeter it tasted.
Frost Shaw squatted on the ground, propping his chin in his hand as he watched her. Her cheeks puffed out, bulging with each chew. ’So cute, I really want to poke them.’
He reached out and gave one a poke. ’Hmm, a little hard. It’s full of rice.’
Lily Hart, mid-chew, turned her head to give him a helpless, exasperated look. She shook her head, knocking his hand away.
Frost Shaw pulled his hand back and tucked it away, chuckling sheepishly. "You keep eating. I’m going to go have a look inside."
Lily Hart snorted softly. Frost Shaw got up and walked into the cake shop behind her.
Watching the bustling, crowded cake shop, she quickly shoveled down a few more bites, hastily finished her meal, and went inside to help.
In just an hour and a half, the items in the cake shop were completely sold out.
Everyone was full of curiosity about the new cake shop.
Everything looked incredibly delicious and they wanted to buy it all, but they had limited Crystal Cores in their pockets, and the cakes on the display shelves were also limited.
Rhonda Kane hadn’t expected business to be this good. What she had prepared was far from enough, and customers were already asking for more.
But she was stuck at the register and couldn’t get away.
’Boss Hart, Boss Hart, where is Boss Hart?’
Rhonda Kane’s eyes frantically scanned the shop, finally landing on Lily Hart, who was wandering around.
She stopped what she was doing, raised her hand high, and waved vigorously at Lily Hart. "Boss Hart! Boss Hart!"
Hearing her name called, Lily Hart immediately stood on her toes to find the source of the voice.
’Oh, it’s Rhonda.’
She jogged over, and the moment she saw the plea in Rhonda’s eyes, she understood everything.
"Alright, alright. You go ahead, leave this to me." Lily Hart sighed, calmly taking over the mountain of work.
Rhonda Kane thanked her profusely and shot her a grateful look. "I’m heading in, then~"
The moment she entered the kitchen, Rhonda Kane immediately got busy, preparing another batch of everything according to the original quantities.
This time, it was just Rhonda Kane. She was going to be swamped.
Some of the small cakes needed to be placed on stiff cardboard, while some of the small desserts had to be packed in plastic boxes.
The cookies and bread were easier; she could just stack them up.
At Lily Hart’s request, Cynthia Whittaker came to the kitchen to help. Once Rhonda Kane saw her, she didn’t stand on ceremony.
She told her to put on some gloves and help out.
Cynthia Whittaker was a quick worker. She watched what Rhonda Kane was doing and copied her adeptly.
With two women working together, the work felt effortless.
After they had finished a small portion, Rhonda Kane had Cynthia Whittaker take a tray out first, so the customers wouldn’t have to wait too long.
The moment Cynthia Whittaker came out from behind the counter, before she could even put the items on the shelf, they were snatched up by the crowd.
She quickly called out to Roman Rowe, who was wandering around. "Hey, you! Get over here and help!"
Roman Rowe, looking completely bewildered, followed her into the kitchen.
He was still bewildered as he started to help. Before he could even process what was happening, he found himself wearing gloves with a cake in his hands.
Three people were faster than two, and the starving customers outside could finally get their fill.
After another hour of frantic work, Lily Hart came in and said, "Alright, alright, that’s enough for today."
Only then did Rhonda Kane check the time. ’Good grief, time flies when you’re busy.’
She glanced at the prep counter, which was piled high, and saw that the refrigerators, display stands, and shelves outside were all fully stocked as well.
There was definitely enough for today. Rhonda Kane shook out her hands and smiled warmly at the others, her dimples showing. "Thanks so much for your help today..."
Roman Rowe waved a hand listlessly. "It’s nothing..." ’Boss Hart was the one who called. As if I’d dare refuse.’
He leaned against the prep counter and picked up a milk crisp to eat. It was light and crunchy, filling his mouth with a milky fragrance, and it barely left any crumbs.
’So good!’
After working so hard for so long, Roman Rowe was instantly healed.
Seeing this, Lily Hart grabbed a small plastic bag, shook it open, and filled it for him.
She thrust it at him. "Here. Take it home and enjoy."
Roman Rowe perked up instantly. He stood up straight and gleefully clutched the bag to his chest, looking like he was guarding his treasure.
Lily Hart glanced at the time. It was almost five o’clock, so she decided to head back to the lottery shop to check on things.
She instructed Rhonda Kane, "Once you sell all of this, you can probably close up for the day."
Rhonda Kane agreed and hurried out to help at the register.
While Lily Hart had been inside, Frost Shaw had taken her place, skillfully handling transactions and sending one customer after another on their way.
"I’ll take over. Thanks, everyone," Rhonda Kane said as she walked over to relieve him.
Frost Shaw nodded. He didn’t know her well and had only helped out for Lily Hart’s sake.
Just then, he saw Lily Hart, Roman Rowe, and Cynthia Whittaker come out of the kitchen, and he nodded to them.
Leo Colby and the others had stopped by for a look during the grand opening.
