Apocalypse: I'm Bound to a Mobile Lottery Shop
Chapter 457: Testing the Wine
Chapter 457: Chapter 457: Testing the Wine
For the superpower users who fight on the front lines year-round, this was a huge help.
After helping Linnie Shaw figure out her drink, Lily Hart went back to studying her own.
A moment later, Frost Shaw and Leo Colby finished mixing theirs.
Coincidentally, Frost Shaw’s drink was the color of an iceberg, a pristine, crystal-clear blue.
Leo Colby’s was a dark purple, which also suited his Thunderbolt superpower.
The two exchanged a look, clinked their glasses, and drank at the same time.
As the strong liquor went down, they could clearly feel it travel down their throats and spread through every inch of their bodies.
Then, both felt a jolt of energy and involuntarily raised their hands.
’Is this... the feeling of my superpower being amplified?’
In that instant, it felt as if their rank had jumped a whole step, a qualitative leap.
The energy inside them surged, roaring with excitement and exhilaration.
Without even needing to test it, they were certain the drink had amplified their superpowers.
Seizing the opportunity, they immediately sat down on the floor, crossed their legs, and began to cultivate in meditative silence.
But after a short five minutes, the sensation gradually faded and returned to normal.
Frost Shaw slowly opened her eyes. No matter what she did, she could no longer feel that surge of energy from a moment ago.
Seeing Frost Shaw in thought, Leo Colby knew they had experienced the same thing. "It’s temporary," he said.
"Right, about five minutes." Frost Shaw had checked the time before sitting down and remembered it clearly.
Leo Colby nodded. "That’s still not bad. A five-minute, all-around boost could be a huge help in a fight if you use it right."
The two of them discussed what they had felt in detail and found their experiences were more or less identical.
So, they followed Lily Hart’s example and wrote a summary on the page they were studying.
[All-around superpower amplification. Duration: approximately five minutes.]
Once they were both finished, they went to join the others, using their limited experience to help.
Soon, Cynthia Whittaker was done.
It was a beautiful, white and light-green gradient drink, like a fresh green sprout in spring.
She gave it a gentle sniff. Surprisingly, it smelled of matcha with a hint of fresh grass.
It looked and smelled great. Cynthia Whittaker didn’t hesitate and gulped it all down.
"DING..." An ethereal sound echoed in Cynthia Whittaker’s mind.
If she had a health bar above her head, this drink would have just increased her HP.
At the same time, she could clearly feel that she’d become a tiny bit more durable. Although it was barely noticeable, it was better than nothing.
Cynthia Whittaker scratched her head. ’This simple-looking drink actually works.’
She followed the others’ example and jotted down her own summary.
[Increases HP?]
But she wasn’t very confident, so she added a question mark at the end. She decided to mix a few more so everyone could try.
She wanted to see what everyone else felt; after all, a single sample was too small.
The others, like Roman Rowe and Owen Warren, were also struggling with their own pages.
They felt they had no talent for this, and after failing two or three times, they were starting to lose patience.
Now they were working with furrowed brows, forcing themselves to be patient, but they hadn’t forgotten Lily Hart’s instructions.
Before they started, Lily Hart had told them they had to do it properly and couldn’t just mess around.
Determined not to let Lily Hart down, the two of them kept at it earnestly, even though they weren’t very good at it.
Time ticked by. Roman Rowe finally managed to produce a finished product, but when he drank it, there was no reaction at all.
Lily Hart teased, "Did you mess up a step somewhere?"
Roman Rowe flatly denied it. "No way. I followed the instructions step-by-step."
"Then do it again so I can watch," Lily Hart said.
"Fine, I will," Roman Rowe replied confidently, not thinking for a second that he’d done anything wrong.
He began demonstrating for Lily Hart with full confidence.
Lily Hart watched Roman Rowe while following along with the instructions.
Halfway through, Lily Hart suddenly said, "Wait, that’s not right. You’re not supposed to add that yet."
Roman Rowe wanted to scratch his head to hide his embarrassment, but both his hands were full.
He chuckled sheepishly. "Oh, really?"
"Really!" Lily Hart confirmed.
He had no choice but to start over, strictly following the steps while Lily Hart supervised him from start to finish.
He finally produced a bright red drink. It looked so vicious you’d think it could kill someone.
Roman Rowe hesitated. "Is this safe to drink? It won’t kill me, will it?"
Lily Hart said with a straight face, "It won’t. But you should try it first."
"Me again?" Roman Rowe pointed at himself, a puzzled look on his face. "Is that right? What if I die?"
"You won’t," Lily Hart said.
"Really?" Roman Rowe asked again, a little worried for his life.
Lily Hart crossed her arms and glared at him. "Are you going to drink it or not? Stop wasting time. If you don’t drink it, I will."
Seeing she was getting impatient, Roman Rowe stopped teasing her. "Okay, okay, I’m drinking."
He then downed it in one go. It didn’t taste much like alcohol, but it did have a strange peachy flavor.
They both waited to see what effect the drink would have.
A moment later, countless tiny red motes of light appeared around Roman Rowe.
They seemed much more restless and aggressive than the white motes, a good match for Roman Rowe’s personality.
Even the way they bobbed up and down was much more exaggerated than the white ones.
Roman Rowe reached out a curious hand to poke one. "What’s the use of these? And why are mine red?"
"I don’t know, but I’m guessing it has to do with attack power," said Lily Hart.
After all, they looked aggressive, as if they were ready to pick a fight at any moment.
Sure enough, the moment Roman Rowe touched a red mote...
...all the red motes lit up as if a switch had been flipped, and they all rushed toward Lily Hart, who was closest.
Startled, Lily Hart instinctively retreated, quickly crossing her arms in front of her.
Countless vines shot out, protecting her completely without leaving a single gap.
They blocked the red motes, and a SIZZLING sound filled the air the instant the two made contact.
Looking closely, the vines were being scorched by the red motes, but the motes were also visibly dwindling in number.
This continued until all the red motes had disappeared.
Lily Hart smacked her lips. "So these are the aggressive type of motes, the kind that actively picks fights. Use with caution."
"But their attack power isn’t bad. I’d estimate they could fight a Fifth Rank to a standstill," she concluded.
Roman Rowe agreed, finally breathing a sigh of relief. He’d finally mixed it correctly.
After Lily Hart finished writing her summary on the paper, Stan Sterling and Seth also finished mixing their drinks.
They each drank their own concoction, and their eyes quickly lit up.
Suddenly, Seth blinked outside the bar counter at an incredible speed.
He didn’t go around it; he passed straight through it. Everyone there was a superpower user, so they all saw it happen.
They couldn’t help but be a little stunned. Lily Hart said, "Was that a blink?"
’How useful! Perfect for escaping or chasing down enemies.’
Stan Sterling looked around. His drink seemed to amplify strength, and he really wanted to punch something to demonstrate.
’But... I can’t go around destroying someone else’s shop.’
He had to settle for explaining it verbally and asked Seth to help with a demonstration.
Stan Sterling was currently a Fourth Rank, so he normally wouldn’t stand a chance against Seth. But now, he could actually block one of his moves.
It was all thanks to the strength amplification.
