Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts
Chapter 1275 - 228: The Bankruptcy Plan
"The defensive gap after your withdrawal will be taken over by the Soul Puppet Legion. This time, Mountain Kui has put out a force of Soul Puppets equal in number to everything currently on the main battlefield, led by Cloud Puppet, whose strength is no weaker than mine. On one hand they’re here to patch the defensive hole you leave behind, and on the other hand..."
Corpse puppet stopped halfway through his sentence, and right then, the thundercloud above Moka’s head suddenly erupted with a bolt of lightning. The lightning dropped straight down and in the blink of an eye smashed into the tabletop in front of Moka.
In an instant, flames roared up, then were snuffed out with a wave of Corpse puppet’s hand.
The threat wasn’t disguised at all!
"Hah! Hah!!! Fine! You’re all fucking fine!!!"
Moka’s breathing shifted from ragged to calm. He only gave Corpse puppet and Fang Bai a hard look, spat out one vicious line, then turned on his heel and left.
The situation was stronger than the man; in these circumstances, Moka had absolutely no way to fix it.
...
The Soul Puppets surrounded the city and forcibly drove the Demigod faction’s forces off the main battlefield. On the surface it looked like things were about to explode, yet with Moka already having swallowed his pride, the overall situation was still within controllable bounds.
In the sky, countless Cloud Puppets rubbed against each other and sparked currents, dyeing the whole sky a dark blue‑black. Under the shroud of storm clouds, the District 7 Outpost Base seemed to be facing a natural disaster, the mood oppressively heavy.
Corpse puppet led the Soul Puppet Legion; Fang Bai led the crowd from Yanjing. The two groups stood on opposite sides of the main road of the District 7 Outpost Base, watching as the professionists and mutant creatures of the Demigod faction, led by Moka, withdrew from the Outpost Base.
People surged like a tide, shoulders brushing in the streets; it looked lively and crowded, yet not a sound came out.
"Why are they driving us out? Haven’t we done enough these past few years?"
Circling in the hearts of the warriors being evacuated was only this one question, but a lot of things simply don’t have a clear answer.
The warriors who could join fighting on the main battlefield were undoubtedly chosen out of thousands—powerful experts among powerful experts. But from another angle, they were still just weak—within the game between two major powers, individual emotions were really just too small.
"I refuse to accept this!"
"Kala~~~"
Lightning fell from the sky, blasting a big pit into the street and wiping out every sound of defiance along the way.
Maybe Fang Bai’s people and Corpse puppet’s people, out of regard for the comradeship built over long campaigns, wouldn’t do anything too extreme, but the newly arrived Cloud Puppets didn’t bother with that.
They were just carrying out orders from above. Nothing more.
On both sides of the street, the warriors belonging to Yanjing and the Soul Puppet Legion only watched their former comrades withdraw, complicated emotions flickering in their eyes. It wasn’t just the warriors of the Demigod faction who were unwilling; they also had their own small emotional flare‑ups. But those little sparks of feeling couldn’t compare to a single order from their superiors.
For them, seeing off their former comrades had become the only thing they could do at this moment.
Until Moka was the first to step out of the city gate, until the warriors behind him followed close, until they walked farther and farther away, until the District 7 Outpost Base in Moka’s eyes shrank to a tiny black dot at the tip of his finger—only then did Moka finally stop. While he instructed his trusted aides to calm down his subordinates’ emotions, he silently watched the District 7 Outpost Base. After a long while, he took the communicator from his waist.
"Lord Demigod, we’ve been driven off the main battlefield by the Soul Puppets of Yanjing and Wen Yu."
...
Bad news came one after another.
Ever since he gave the order to clear out Carmille, the bad news hadn’t stopped.
First was Li Quan’an’s failed ambush—maybe in Li Quan’an’s eyes, he’d done the job cleanly enough, and in the end the operation had basically met its objective. But only the Demigod himself knew it was nothing like what Li Quan’an imagined!
Spirit had already sent back the information: not long after Li Quan’an left, Wen Yu’s second Soul had arrived at the scene.
The Demigod had the Soul Abiogenetic Creation Skill himself, so he of course knew Li Quan’an had no means to Annihilate Carmille’s Soul, and he also knew Wen Yu could get whatever intel he wanted from Carmille’s Soul before it completely dissipated. As for whether Wen Yu would dig through all the information hidden in Carmille’s Soul, the Demigod could figure out the answer with his ass! In other words, the Yanjing subversion plan was completely blown, and even the fact that he possessed the Soul Abiogenetic Creation Skill was now known to Wen Yu.
To the point that even the channel inside Spirit leading to the origin of the Earth’s nucleus being exposed, and the fact that he’d already reached a preliminary cooperation intent with Tang Haofei and that Wen Yu knew all this—these things the Demigod already considered not that important.
The whole mess had started from one joke by Tang Haofei, and the result was that the Demigod’s entire plan got hacked into tiny pieces!
In that moment, the Demigod resented Tang Haofei a bit, and resented himself a bit as well. But then he thought it through and threw those small emotions to the back of his mind.
Regret had no meaning whatsoever.
The instant he got this news, the Demigod immediately changed his residence and started thinking through the chain reactions that the exposure of his plan would trigger.
The Yanjing subversion plan now had no reason to proceed at all. Wen Yu would inevitably tell all of this to Lin Haifeng, and once Lin Haifeng knew the intel, there was no way he’d step into the trap.
The foundation of the plan had already been destroyed.
Sure enough, just as the Demigod finished relocating his residence, the spies from Yanjing sent back the latest intel.
Yanjing was moving.
Fine, even the fuse was gone; what the hell was there left to "subvert" in the Yanjing subversion plan!
If at that point the Demigod’s mood was like a raging storm, then the next day, after receiving Moka’s message, his mood could only be described as the collapse of heaven and earth!
"Lord Demigod, we’ve been driven off the main battlefield by the Soul Puppets of Yanjing and Wen Yu."
"Crack~~~"
Hearing Moka’s report, the Demigod neatly crushed the communicator in his hand into powder!
This move of pulling the firewood from under the cauldron struck right at the Demigod’s soft spot!
...
The operation of a power has to follow basic logic. Someone like Wen Yu, who can just slap his head and instantly build up a huge force like Star of Africa, that’s the kind of miracle you can’t copy.
Because all of Wen Yu’s subordinates are Soul Puppets. They don’t need food or drink; they don’t need wages. As long as there’s fighting, Wen Yu’s power can keep growing stronger, and even if there’s no fighting, Wen Yu’s power won’t shrink.
But Yanjing and the Demigod are different.
Soldiers need to eat; they need wages to support their families. After all, no one can live on love; money, whether before or after the apocalypse, is a topic you can never escape.
So where does the money come from?
There are three main channels for the production of magic crystals—treasure land, mutant beast, Demon Tribe.
The output from treasure lands is extremely small, basically negligible. Mutant beasts are the Demigod’s own subordinates; he can’t possibly turn the butcher’s knife on them. So whether for the Demigod or for Yanjing, the main battlefield is their largest source of income.
