Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts
Chapter 1446 - 88: Infiltration
The pitch-black medicinal pill rolled restlessly between Wen Yu’s fingers as he stared at it, yet he couldn’t find anything special about it.
It didn’t even have an item description.
It was just a lump of mud, a lump formed from all kinds of trace elements, amino acids, enzymes, and other messy stuff combined together.
And this was also the fundamental reason Yanjing had been able to successfully duplicate it—the Clone of molecules and even atoms, turned into Perfect Duplication, a knockoff product whose various trace elements and samples were completely identical.
As for the effect...
As the office door opened, Wei Tian walked into Wen Yu’s office.
"The experiment failed."
Wei Tian spoke simply, then placed the experimental report on Wen Yu’s desk.
After one thousand Demon Fiends of various ranks took the medicinal pill, they all converted into the Human Race—this step was nothing strange.
However, those one thousand Demon Fiends who had undergone racial Conversion all died one after another within three days.
This was not a high-yield, mass-producible racial Conversion method—at least not before the experiment succeeded.
In other words, before the trial succeeded, this was just "waste" that could temporarily convert the Demon Tribe into Humans.
Utterly useless to Wen Yu, and to Yanjing.
Hearing Wei Tian’s bad news, Wen Yu gently rubbed the corner of his brow.
"Forget it, let’s not talk about that. Have you figured out exactly where it failed?"
The technology contained in this medicinal pill did indeed offer huge help to Wen Yu and to Yanjing. Wen Yu also had a thorough plan for the specific uses of this drug. But before they could produce a finished pill, any ideas or plans lost the soil they needed to survive.
"We found it."
Wei Tian nodded lightly.
"The biotech stored inside is very advanced, but it’s not impossible to crack. Yanjing’s technical reserves are still very strong. But based on my research, I suspect that the Soul Abiogenetic Creation Skill and Soul Energy play a decisive role in it."
"On the technical side I’m confident I can overcome it, but on the Soul level I’m completely powerless. If you ask me, if anyone can fully digest this technology, it’s probably only you."
Wen Yu fell silent at once.
Some things, once they touch the level of the Soul, instantly become an exclusive research field for only a few people.
On all of Earth, Wen Yu was not the only soul-type powerful expert, but speaking of who had the deepest research into the Soul, it would almost certainly be Wen Yu. If Wen Yu wanted to fully master this technology, he’d need three to five years. Put it in the hands of other soul-type powerful experts, and it would probably become three to five thousand years. The gap was far, far too big—so big that it was enough to make Wen Yu discard all alternatives and choose to step in personally.
After a moment, Wen Yu let out a deep sigh. He looked at Wei Tian and said with a bitter smile.
"In the end, this is still my job, isn’t it?"
Wei Tian looked at Wen Yu and gave a slight nod.
"No one but you!"
...
"Pa."
"Pa."
Messy footsteps sounded. Marcus, who was sitting in front of the secret entrance, instantly stood up and looked into the distance. He saw Ray’s figure flash over like light, appearing in front of him in an instant, then stopping not far from Marcus.
"Thank you for agreeing to meet me."
Ray’s face was full of sincerity at that moment, but Marcus wasn’t buying it. He narrowed his eyes and looked behind Ray.
"So, this is Yanjing’s army? I remember I only agreed to meet you. You never said you’d bring this many people along."
The moment his questioning voice rang out, Marcus was already prepared to attack—he wasn’t planning to run.
Or rather, the moment he decided to take in the Ancient Demons, he had already foreseen that he would face Yanjing’s military crackdown—just as Ray had predicted, this was Marcus’s path of self-destruction.
Yet seeing this, Ray only let out a sigh.
"Marcus, I understand you. And to me, you are my only family left in this world. Even if I die, I won’t sell you out."
As Ray’s resolute voice landed, the crowd whose footsteps had sounded behind him entered Marcus’s field of view.
It was a group of refugee-like, filthy Ancient Demons...
Marcus’s wary posture unconsciously loosened. He looked at Ray, a questioning light in his eyes. Ray merely gave a simple explanation.
"You moved me. So I also want to help you do something. At the very least, I can save a few more of our kinsmen."
With those words, Marcus fell silent.
...
"How many?"
"Exactly two thousand. I’ve estimated the capacity of the underground warehouse. There’s no problem fitting five thousand people in."
"Supplies?"
"We share the burden. The military pay for the two of us is enough to keep these people alive."
"..."
Marcus said nothing. Not until Ray had settled the two thousand behind him into the abandoned warehouse did Marcus finally give Ray a slight nod.
"Thank you."
Ray instantly burst into hearty laughter.
"We’re brothers, aren’t we?"
...
The underground warehouse ultimately housed a total of five thousand Ancient Demons. But Yanjing’s basic infrastructure was still excellent; at the very least, the air circulation here wasn’t slow, and the air quality was relatively good. It was just that the rotting stench from the Demon Fiends’ bodies was a bit hard to stomach.
Still, for certain "people with ulterior motives," this hardly counted as something unacceptable.
In the crowd, one Ancient Demon with plain looks, plain strength, hidden among the Demon Fiends without standing out at all, was tilting his head, carefully examining his surroundings.
Unfortunately, all that met his eyes were Ancient Demons with dull expressions, sitting and waiting for death.
They were nothing more than the tools of Marcus’s "self-redemption," or rather "self-destruction." Though they were living beings, in the eyes of those stronger than them, they were just a series of feeding targets. Naturally, there would be no psychological counseling, nor any forms of entertainment.
This place was called a resettlement point, but was merely another concentration camp. What it had was only an ever-deepening despair.
"Bang..."
A sudden impact cut off the Demon Fiend’s train of thought. He lowered his head and looked down.
He saw an Ancient Demon child, barely half a meter tall, crash headfirst into his thigh, only to stumble and fall to the ground.
"Waa..."
The wailing cries rang out, bringing a sliver of liveliness to this land of despair.
The Demon Fiend lowered his head, bent down. He looked at the child and gently rubbed the slightly cracked scales on the child’s forehead. After a moment, the savage face finally curved into a smile.
"My name is Number Three. What’s yours?"
A pleasant voice came from the Ancient Demon’s mouth, and along with it, a finely wrapped piece of chocolate.
Perhaps sensing the kindness from this "uncle" in front of him, the little Demon Fiend’s sobbing gradually subsided. He looked at Number Three, then at the Candy in Number Three’s hand. After a moment, he still took the Candy and spoke softly.
"My name is Guer..."
