Apocalypse: Master of Soul Beasts

Chapter 1460: Second Encounter (Part 1)

On the second day, Wen Yu brought little Guer to the underground cave once again.

Just like the day before, little Guer rummaged through the space ring to find a large amount of medicinal potion, scattering them above the bacteria blanket, while the Balu Monster also began its second day of feeding.

But this time, it was different from the last.

“Strange… why does it feel like its growth rate has slowed down so much today?”

Guer murmured, unable to find an answer, while Wen Yu merely activated Night Eyes to carefully observe the flow of energy within the Balu Monster.

Upon seeing the essence of the potion entering its mouth, it was immediately transformed into a pure energy flow, which traveled down the esophagus in an attempt to fully convert into nutrients for the Balu Monster’s growth.

However, unlike the previous day, today, as this stream of energy surged into the Balu Monster’s esophagus, it was immediately intercepted by a small black sphere, approximately eighty percent of the energy was absorbed and stored by the sphere, leaving only the remainder to become nutrients for the Balu Monster.

This was Wen Yu’s little trick.

Although the Balu Monster brought a huge surprise to Wen Yu, he hadn’t forgotten his fundamental purpose of lurking beside Guer.

He had always wanted to find out who was behind all of this.

Moreover, with the Level 9 Level Lock yet to be unlocked, and lacking free space in the Soul Realm space, delaying the Balu Monster’s growth speed was all pros and no cons for Wen Yu.

…

Little Guer, sprinkling the potion, gradually wore a grim expression. At some point, he suddenly stopped, walked up and grasped the Balu Monster.

But after checking it from head to toe, little Guer still couldn’t find anything strange on the Balu Monster—naturally, he couldn’t detect Wen Yu’s trick.

“Could it be sick?”

Wen Yu said this, while Guer just shook his head.

“No, it’s very healthy.”

Guer replied simply and then looked at the space ring that stored the Balu Monster’s “feed.”

“I don’t know what’s happened; overall, apart from the reduction in energy absorption and conversion rate, there doesn’t seem to be any severe issues, it’s just…”

At this point, little Guer turned to look at Wen Yu, revealing a smile uglier than crying.

“The feed is running out.”

Wen Yu shrugged, indicating he was completely powerless regarding this matter.

…

The “feed” given to Guer by the insider was enough to cultivate the Balu Monster to Peak Level 8.

But that’s all it was—to cultivate a mature Balu Monster’s main body would consume an overwhelming amount of resources, and even a rough estimate of the potion scattered just yesterday wouldn’t be much cheaper than building this hidden base.

And after Wen Yu used his trick to siphon off eighty percent of the energy, Guer’s existing resources were far from meeting the standards for the Balu Monster to fully mature.

This matter’s impact was comprehensive.

Guer could choose to force the Balu Monster’s main body into half-maturity—but this half-maturity would not only affect the Balu Monster’s growth rate, but also its growth potential. With Guer’s sole asset being the Balu Monster, he couldn’t make such a self-destructive decision.

So the only choice left before him was to call for help…

Guer was so anxious that, in front of Wen Yu, he took out his communication equipment and began dialing all the numbers the insider had previously contacted him with, but none worked.

“What do I do?”

At this moment, the child was about to cry, looking at his Number 3 Uncle, mumbling the question.

“How long can your existing feed sustain the Balu Monster without harming it fundamentally?”

“Three months…”

Even with Wen Yu using tricks, the resources left by the insider were not something that could be depleted in a short time.

This also indirectly indicates that this insider’s energy reserves were quite substantial.

“Three months, huh? Actually, I don’t see why there’s any rush, it’s just waiting another three months. I think within this time, that Mysterious Man will definitely contact you again.”

It was merely a comforting platitude, yet when these words came from Number 3 Uncle, they oddly calmed Guer down, who looked at Wen Yu, then at the Balu Monster, and gently nodded.

…

When today’s feed was depleted, the Balu Monster’s physical attributes increased by over 10,000 points, but it still hadn’t successfully advanced to Level 4. The two of them checked the Balu Monster from head to tail once more, and finally, Guer gave up.

He couldn’t find the small trap set by Wen Yu with any means.

Wen Yu led him back to the residential area, and as the door closed, he could even hear the low sobs coming from the adjacent room.

“Poor child…”

Wen Yu sighed softly, seeming to hold significant compassion for Guer, then he lay back on the bed, contemplating what might happen next with squinted eyes.

Until he slowly drifted into slumber.

…

Over the next two months, everything seemed to develop smoothly along its usual trajectory.

Rebel Army’s First Base was basically completed, with the entire base structure placed underground by Wen Yu, mainly for safety and concealment. The number of Demon Fiends in the base also surpassed the threshold of 30,000—so far, the population growth of Rebel Army’s First Base still had to rely on Ray’s “smuggling,” and reaching the target population growth set by little Guer could take a hundred years or so.

Wen Yu also mentioned this to Guer, but it was evident that little Guer’s mind wasn’t on the Rebel Army’s First Base at all. He simply shuttled back and forth between the underground caves multiple times a day, checking the growth status of the Balu Monster, only to find more disappointing news.

Until one evening.

‘Ring-a-ding~~~ Ring-a-ding~~~’

A distinctive ringtone sounded, waking the slumbering Guer. He blinked blankly before sitting up with a start, scrambling to the coffee table and grabbing the communicator lying there.

“Hello, little friend, long time no see.”

“Hello.”

A teasing voice met a cautious one.

This scene immediately made Wen Yu, lying nearby pretending to sleep, open his eyes.

The moment he had been waiting for finally arrived…

…

“So, the purpose of my call this time is to ask about your current situation. Yes, the framework for the First Base should be in place, correct?”

“Yes, sir, the First Base is basically completed and everything is operating smoothly.”

“Okay, that is a bit beyond my expectations, but that’s fine because it’s a good thing.”

“Actually… there’s another problem I don’t know if I should mention.”

“Yes, what’s it about?”

“It’s regarding the Balu Monster…”
