Chapter 204: Chapter 140: Strategic Granary, Recruiting Scientific Researchers
Jin City’s rapid industrial relocation was only possible because they overloaded their vessels, ignoring water levels and river conditions. They would then find docks in Huizhou to unload and repack, which had led to a massive jam of heavy cargo ships in the middle and lower reaches of the Great River.
If they were to send several small boats from the safe zone in the rear, the increasing congestion would only make the journey to Wu City take even longer.
But with their invincible amphibious fleet, all these problems were easily solved.
Staring intently at the battleship entering the Great River, Han Yuxin slowly released her hands, which had been gripping Lin Feng’s arm in nervousness. She then let out a series of gasps of amazement.
’To think this twenty-odd-meter behemoth could move through water as if it were solid ground. It’s incredible.’
Thanks to her experience piloting on Taihu Lake, Chen Yanyan was now adept at navigating on water. She glanced over and said flatly,
"This is a battleship. Of course it can go on water!"
Since they didn’t need to detour via a bridge, Chen Yanyan and Han Yuxin discussed it and decided to follow the coordinate map from Hu Fei, making landfall at the nearest point.
After going ashore, they drove another six or seven kilometers, and the fleet arrived at the southwest corner of Old Mountain Park.
The road into the mountains was too narrow for the Land Patrol Battleship to pass, so the group got out of their vehicles one by one.
They gathered together, and after a brief discussion, decided it was best not to make too much noise. They couldn’t risk attracting attention and revealing the location of the strategic grain reserve.
The plan was for Lin Feng to lead Han Yuxin and the other local guides deep into the mountains. Once they found the target, they would notify the others to come and transport the goods.
And so, late at night, under a moonlit, sparsely-starred sky...
Lin Feng’s group of five stepped into the dense, mountainous forest before them, a chorus of cicadas rising from all around.
The man who had once been a forest ranger walked at the very front, as he was the most familiar with the area.
He raised a spotlight, looked at the map marker on his phone, and turned back to explain:
"The Old Mountain Range is a region of low mountains and hills. It’s 35 kilometers from east to west and 15 kilometers from north to south, with an average elevation of 250 meters. The highest peak, Dragon Tong Mountain, is 440 meters high. The mountains are primarily composed of basalt, which is extremely hard."
"Although it’s been developed into a nature preserve in recent years, many of the smaller ranges have been left in their original state. There are wild boars, raccoon dogs, and various snakes and insects. There are also several military restricted zones, so aside from a few famous peaks, the central areas are closed off."
"It’s very difficult for ordinary people to get deep inside."
"I’ve looked at the three markers. They’re concentrated on the eastern side of the range, within the same mountain. Two are located in the inner valleys, and the other is on the outer mountainside."
"It’s about nine kilometers away, but the mountain path will be thirteen or fourteen kilometers long."
Lin Feng nodded. All that mattered was that the location was within a five-kilometer radius of the Land Patrol Battleship, which would allow the eight Flying Wing Tank Replicas to exert their Attribute effects.
"Then let’s pick up the pace. We need to get this all sorted out before three in the morning."
The group immediately quickened their pace.
Luckily, they were all Awakeners. Their physical stamina and night vision were far superior to that of ordinary people. Even Han Yuxin could easily complete a ten-kilometer mountain trek.
Fifteen minutes later, the group arrived near their target.
It wasn’t on the paved main road. They had to leave the road, travel another 2.5 kilometers on a muddy forest path, and go around five hilltops to reach their final destination.
Anyone unfamiliar with the terrain would get turned around and lost in the dense mountain forest, even in broad daylight.
Fortunately, they had the area’s former ranger as their guide.
Combined with the keen perception of Awakeners, the group reached the base of the target mountain effortlessly.
They found the first location and drew closer. It was a sealed cave entrance in the valley, 2.5 meters wide and 2 meters high. It was a bit low, but a person could get through without issue.
Seeing that the tightly sealed iron door was only slightly rusted gave Lin Feng a huge boost of confidence; it suggested that the grain’s shelf life shouldn’t be a major issue.
Just then, the man who had been a ranger remembered something that had happened there:
"A couple of years ago, a group from the relevant departments came here. They entered via the outer path at the foot of the mountain, carrying large amounts of supplies inside to make replacements."
"This place used to be a strategic armory. There are also many air-raid shelters and underground facilities. Sometimes, when military factories got new orders and updated their equipment, they would seal all the obsolete weapons in here."
Everyone nodded and took a few more steps forward.
But then they came upon a heavy steel door. It looked to be over ten centimeters thick and was double-layered and sealed.
It required a special key to unlock, after which one had to turn a tight, circular wheel-valve to open it completely.
Turning the wheel-valve required the combined strength of two or three strong men, and pushing open the gear-controlled solid door required even more force.
The place was normally deserted, and some parts were even designated as military restricted zones, so there was no need to worry about theft.
Lin Feng also noticed an alarm system on the inside of the door. It would have to be disabled with the right tools; otherwise, a theft signal would be sent to the administrators.
Fortunately, all these measures were designed to stop ordinary people.
They might have been effective against a Tier One Awakener, but for Lin Feng, who was at Tier Two Late Stage Perfection, they were no obstacle at all.
In the face of absolute Power, an Alloy door more than ten centimeters thick was no different from a sheet of wood veneer.
There was no need to go back for the Tiger-toothed Chainsaw Sword and waste its Durability. Lin Feng directly activated the Full Body Armor form of his Flying Tiger Armor, and the shell—made from Tiger Spine Zerg Giant Mandible material—instantly covered his entire body, especially his knuckles.
