Chapter 17: Water and Food

Joe had come over to the Business Building thinking that there would be resources here to help him survive.

But he was disappointed when he got here and saw that now there weren’t any.

To make it even worse, his girlfriend, Felicia, and her friends were annoying as hell, wanting him to figure out something soon.

He was thirsty and hungry too but he wasn’t going to take a huge risk out there.

Among his friends, only he and two of them had Awakened an ability and after seeing the number of Awakened Alex had with him, it would be idiotic to go after Alex like what Felicia had said.

Joe pondered for a moment.

Alex and the other students would be hungry and thirsty like he was eventually.

They would have to try and get to the food supplies in the cafeteria and the campus convenience stores by then.

That might be a great opportunity for him and his friends to follow along and forage whatever that is available for them.

Joe held his hand onto Felicia’s head and moved it down towards her long silky hair and said, "We will have to wait for now and seize the right opportunity."

Felicia frowned when she heard him and she tried to push his hand away.

But Joe was too strong for her and his hand didn’t budge.

He smirked and pulled her into his arms.

"We will check on the other students." Seeing what was about to happen, Joe’s friends, who were standing behind him said.

They turned around towards the meeting room where the others were.

Patricia was still in her slumber and her friends were taking care of her, while the others were feeling thirsty and hungry.

It was hard for them to believe that a day ago, they were the center of attention in the college where they had suitors that would do anything for them.

But now, they were tired, smelt bad and everyone seemed to have forgotten about them.

They were trapped here not knowing what to do next.

But that was not all.

Things turned even worse for them.

One of them came back from the washroom and said, "There’s no more water... I tried with all the taps but nothing... The water supply is gone..."

They gasped when they heard her.

Without water, they would die of thirst very soon.

"What? How are we supposed to survive?"

"This can’t be happening."

"Maybe we should go out and seek help."

Feeling despair, they tried to figure out a way to survive.

"Seek help from who?" Felicia walked into the meeting room with Joe.

She patted Joe on his shoulder and said, "My boyfriend here would be able to get us through all of this."

Joe lifted his head and raised his hand.

When he did so, the chair that was near him also elevated into the air.

Then, he swiped his hand to the side and the chair flew towards the wall.

The chair crashed into the wall and turned into pieces.

When they saw what happened, the students were in awe of what Joe was able to do.

Maybe they could depend on him, they thought.

Joe saw their faces and he felt great to be looked up to.

"Relax and let’s chill..." He said and his friends gave him a grin.

They walked over to the young women, took out joints and handed the joints over to the young women.

The young women took the joints reluctantly and Joe’s friends lit the joints up for them.

Meanwhile, things were very much different in the dorm building that Alex was in.

The Awakened that had participated in the mission to distract the birds were gathered in Brian’s room.

Those that were injured were taken care of with antiseptic wipes and their wounds were bandaged up.

Fortunately, the injuries on them didn’t warrant any stitching or surgery.

But it made Alex concerned about having someone who had medical knowledge with him.

Someone in the school of Bio-science or medicine could help.

It would be even better if there was someone who Awakened the ability to heal.

Alex thought that he would have to take note of it when he went out next time to kill the mutated beasts or gather supplies.

He had also gotten out the bottles of mineral water and MRE ration packs for the other Awakened.

Alex had made use of the fact that Riley was well known as a doomsday fanatic and it was entirely possible that he had such supplies in his dorm room for times like this.

He didn’t want others to know that he had water and food in his storage space yet, to avoid being targeted.

Having such an ability would make him the prime target for others, if he wasn’t powerful enough to protect himself.

That is, until he was able to build up his team of loyal Awakened.

So far, he could trust Brian, Terry and Riley.

As for the other Awakened like Eddy and Lin, they had been cooperative but he would want to be sure before he let them know.

Thankfully, the other Awakened didn’t suspect a thing about where the water and MRE ration pack came from.

They were too tired, thirsty and hungry to think too much about it.

"Thanks so much." Eddy said while he packed the few bottles of mineral water and MRE ration pack into his backpack.

Lin also said the same and he opened up a bottle of the mineral water and gulped down a mouthful.

He gave out a satisfying ah after he did so and gave out a sigh.

"This was something that was available anytime and anywhere, but now...."

The others also lowered their heads and gave out a long sigh.

Alex shook his head at them and said, "Go back to eat and recuperate.

"I need you to gather your friends and come over here again to discuss on how we should secure the building."

Eddy and Lin nodded their heads at him together with the others.

They also think that it had to be done.

The mutated beasts might not be sleeping throughout the night and they had to have someone to be on alert.

"We will try to get everyone here." Both of them said and left Brian’s room with the others.

When they were gone, Alex turned over Brian and asked, "So, how was it? What did the people from the school of Bio-science say?"
