Apocalypse Online: Regression of SSS-Class Summoner
Chapter 147: Enchanter’s Class Sequence
The discovery of the possible appearance of mana in the Earth in the future and how the pentagon were already keeping an eye on him were just one of the small episode for Max, considering that it would not affect him to the great extent at the present.
When he logged into the game, he proceeded to his private office and contacted the Commander’s office through his communication device.
It took sometime to connect the call straight to the Commander himself.
"Hey, Max! You called?"
"Mhm. I want to know if you have an idea about the difference between a rune mage and an enchanter?"
The Commander was silent for a while.
He said, "Both have their own distinct classes. In fact, a Rune Mage is a C-Class while a Enchanter is D-Class."
Max replied, "I’m aware of that, but I didn’t know the C-Class of Enchanter."
"I see. Then, there’s no harm of telling you the class sequence of A-Class Creation Architect.
First was the D-Class Enchanter, specialists in enhancing existing equipment through mana infusion. Their expertise lay in reinforcing weapons and armor, creating mana-infused accessories, and applying temporary magical enhancements that improved the performance of both individuals and equipment.
Then came the C-Class Runic Engineer, who progressed beyond simple enchantments into integrating runic systems with functioning magical devices. They designed and maintained mana-powered gates, defensive barriers, detection arrays, communication networks, automated mechanisms, and other forms of magical infrastructure.
Although both Runic Engineers and Rune Mages specialized in runes, their disciplines were fundamentally different. Runic Engineers applied runes to physical objects and magical systems, enabling equipment and infrastructure to operate through stable mana circulation. Rune Mages, on the other hand, used runes as a language for spellcasting, constructing and manipulating magical formulas directly from mana without relying on physical devices.
Because of this shared foundation, collaboration between the two professions was common. Rune Mages often studied with Runic Engineers to deepen their understanding of runic structures, while Runic Engineers sought the theoretical insights of Rune Mages to improve the efficiency, stability, and complexity of their magical creations.
Then came the B-Class Grand Artificer, masters of magical craftsmanship who had progressed beyond merely enhancing or integrating magical systems like Runic Engineers. Instead of working on individual runes or enchantments, Grand Artificers created complete magical creations from the ground up.
Their masterpieces included legendary equipment and below, sentient artifacts capable of independent thought, arcane machinery, artificial mana cores, autonomous magical constructs, and countless varieties of high-grade magical tools. Every creation was a complete magical work rather than a collection of enchanted components.
Lastly was the A-Class Creation Architect, masters of magical engineering who had progressed beyond crafting individual artifacts into designing magical ecosystems and civilization-scale infrastructure.
Creation Architects possessed the knowledge to blueprint floating fortresses, arcane cities, golem legions, dimensional gateways, and countless other monumental projects. However, such undertakings demanded astronomical amounts of rare materials, manpower, and funding.
As a result, the Imperial Family reserved their expertise for projects of the highest strategic value, most notably the construction and maintenance of the Empire’s national defensive infrastructure, including the Imperial Mana Relay Core, provincial barrier arrays, and fortress-scale mana networks.
Ever since the imperial mana relay core failed, as what you’ve discovered, and caused us to lose a watchtower post, the Imperial Family immediately ordered the only known three Creation Architects to prevent the same thing from happening again.
The Creation Architects are the most expensive classes.
In our province, we only have a single Grand Artificer, and he led most of the Runic Engineers to design and maintain arrays and defensive constructs.
They were more efficient you see, even though they could produce more and better than those.
Also, they invested more time to produce equipments for soldiers.
That’s why we are not in short of countless epic, and even legendary rank equipment.
Of course, as for Creation Architects, they were responsible for mythical equipment.
The Imperial Family understood that they could not bring out the full potential of their engineers, limiting them to creating equipments for the soldiers and they acknowledged that part.
So yeah, that should be all.
Why are you asking about that anyway?"
Max was dumbfounded by how detailed the Commander explained the class sequence of the Enchanter.
He didn’t expect that they were behind the engineers of the place he noticed to possess runes.
He frowned. "But why are Relay Master in some settlements are Rune Mage instead of Runic Engineers."
The Commander laughed. "You misunderstand.
A Rune Mage is someone educated in runic theory and magical language.
A Runic Engineer is someone trained to apply that knowledge to infrastructure and engineering.
A Relay Master is an administrative and technical position, not a class.
So a person’s class and job don’t have to be the same."
Max nodded. I see. It can be similar in the Earth’s profession.A civil engineer can become a construction manager or a city planner. Likewise a rune mage could become a relay master.
"Truth to be told..." The Commander added. "A Relay Master’s position should be handled by a runic engineer, but there’s more rune mage rather than runic engineer. Some rune mage also began taking the position of a runic engineer simply because those positions are more in demand."
Max fell into deep thought. He recalled Archmage Arlen and was a bit confused.
Archmage Arlen said to invent defensive runes... or whatever runes he can think of and apply them to the objects, such as the tea cup.
It’s like a confusion between theory and application.
If that’s the case... Max’s eyes widened. Is Archmage Arlen both proficient in runic formula and installation?
His breathing grew ragged. If his assumption was true, then Archmage Arlen was indeed a genius.
He asked, "Can a Grand Runesmith be proficient in both theory and application? I mean, be both proficient in runic language and engineering?"
The Commander was silent for a while and replied, "Yes. From what I know, the biggest examples are Grand Runesmith Arlen Mireth. He’s a genius in both profession.
Even then, there’s still a line between a clear Grand Runesmith and a Grand Artificer. Grand Runesmith Arlent Mireth’s was more proficient on the former and his knowledge on the latter was simply beyond average.
Still, that’s quite a feat to achieve."
After hearing the Commander, Max smiled...
