Apocalypse Online: Regression of SSS-Class Summoner
Chapter 229: Visiting House Mireth
At noon, Max was returning to the capital city with Joel by his side.
This time, he did not log out, wanting to enjoy the scenery throughout their journey.
Although he had already enjoyed it once, he would rather enjoy it again than entertain countless calls from Kylie.
At the same time, he couldn’t help but wonder about Constantine.
Now that the Empire was facing the invasion of demons and monsters, Constantine’s master would definitely mobilize the raiders to take advantage of the hamlets’ reduced protection from the military.
At the same time, the raiders would grow, having recruited NPCs or retired officials who had grown tired of the Imperial system and inevitably sought to reform it.
At any moment, Constantine would raid, but not on a large scale, simply looting while recruiting people in the process.
The first large-scale raid would occur in half a month, or a year in Max’s real-world time.
Max didn’t want to intervene, as he did not want to alter the course of future events excessively.
As though he perceived a presence scouting him, he did not encounter Constantine at all, causing him to smile.
Eventually, he returned to the capital city and went straight to the House of Mireth.
Max was quite amused that he had encountered Kai again in a similar way.
As soon as he spotted Kai walking in the hallway, reading a book while seemingly aware of his surroundings, he immediately used Radiant Weave to lift him up, startling him awake.
He panicked in mid-air and hurriedly turned his head sideways to search for the perpetrator behind his sudden levitation.
He immediately calmed down when he perceived that it was Max.
A smile broke across his face.
"It’s been a while, Sir!"
Max nodded. "Max will do."
Although he was being dragged into the air, Kai did not care at all and studied the spell cast by Max as he asked, "Are you planning to visit my father?"
Max hummed in agreement.
Kai’s eyes sparkled.
"Then, does that mean that the demon behind my brother’s death has been taken care of by you?"
Max’s eyebrows rose.
"How did you know?"
Kai felt smug, as shown by his expression, and explained, "I know that you and Father have an agreement. If you really killed the demon behind my brother’s death, not only my father, but the House itself will be thankful to you.
"As far as I know, you have created a Guild.
"In other words, House Mireth will support your Guild!"
Max’s eyes widened.
Is that the mystery gift that Lord Cassian will give me?
Max couldn’t help but feel suspicious.
It was actually the first time that he would be receiving a mystery gift, and he was unsure if it came from the system or the NPC itself.
Normally, whenever an NPC gave a quest, they usually concealed the rewards, except for what the system could provide—EXP, Free Stat Points, and more.
Either way, it should be as valuable as the million EXP points.
"I can finally join your Guild!"
Max snapped awake and glanced at Kai.
For some reason, Kai’s face eventually reminded him of Archmage Arlen, and guilt struck him.
His first thought was to reject Kai, but seeing the sparkling look in his eyes, he couldn’t bear to do so.
He shook his head and sighed.
"You can, I think, but becoming a member of an Expeditionary Corps will take a long time."
Max instantly knew that Kai desired to become a member of an Expeditionary Corps just by listening to his fervent desire to slay demons.
Kai was not disheartened at all.
He said in a boastful tone, "I don’t mind how many years it would take me! As long as I can eventually kill demons... a lot of them, I can die in peace."
Max was honestly surprised.
This is exactly what a demon hunter is.
Max and Kai chatted for a while until they arrived at the House of Mireth’s property.
Max learned from Kai that he was not as talented as his elder brother, but his dedication and consistency made him not far behind his elder brother.
While his elder brother was a bit mischievous, Kai was serious.
He had already memorized a lot of simple spell structures in his mind.
He only lacked the talent to develop a mana network and use it to finally harness mana and cast a spell.
Of course, some talented individuals could cast a spell by harnessing mana externally.
But they were rare—like Archmage Arlen.
They were born once in a hundred years.
A butler soon welcomed Max into the manor while Kai bid farewell to Max.
He was filled with enthusiasm as he departed, clutching the book he had been studying earlier tightly.
The butler was elated to know that Kai appeared to be motivated and had developed a friendly relationship with Max.
Lord Cassian was at his office when Max and the butler arrived.
The butler bid farewell politely.
Max walked toward Lord Cassian.
"Lord Cassian, it has been a while."
Lord Cassian beamed at Max and nodded.
He stood up and shook Max’s hand.
"It feels like yesterday that you visited me, but here you are... seemingly treating days as if they were years.
"How did you reach B-rank so fast?"
Max simply laughed.
He did not beat around the bush and summoned the demon core from his storage ring, which was connected to his inventory.
As soon as Lord Cassian saw it, his face turned grim.
The aura emanating from the demon core might have appeared grim, but it was no joke.
It was almost at the same rank as him.
"Is that the demon responsible for the death of my child?"
Max nodded and smiled.
"I have fulfilled your request."
Lord Cassian broke into laughter.
When tears crawled out of his eyelids, he simply wiped them away... but repeatedly.
As if he were hiding his tears from his laughter.
Max knew what he felt at the moment, and the guilt of abandoning Archmage Arlen to his death was wiped out completely.
