Turning on her heel, April pushed open the tall glass doors leading out to the sunlit garden terrace, stepping into the crisp afternoon air to clear her burning face.

Down in the glass-walled conservatory surrounded by blooming red roses, Emily was sitting at a wrought-iron table, her hands clasped under her chin as she watched Philippe with absolute adoration.

The chef, dressed in a white linen shirt, was carefully setting down a silver tray loaded with delicate fruit tarts and iced herbal tea, a soft, genuine smile on his face as he spoke to her.

Seeing April approach down the stone path, Emily’s eyes lit up, and she instantly stood up, waving happily.

"April! Look!" Emily called out, her voice bright and full of innocent joy. "Philippe made tea for us!"

April walked into the warm, sun-drenched conservatory, her dark eyes flicking between her beaming sister and the chef who made her sister fall head over heels in one week. That was a charm of its own, wasn’t it?

"Miss April," Philippe stammered, stepping back with a quick, formal bow that looked far more nervous than polished. He fidgeted with his apron strings, his eyes dropping to the polished stone floor the moment April’s sharp gaze landed on him. "I—I hope the spread is to your liking. Miss Emily mentioned you might be tired, so I made something light..."

He swallowed hard, rubbing the back of his neck as a faint flush crept up his tan cheeks.

April looked at him. She had asked Samuel for a background check.

Up until a week ago, he had been struggling to make ends meet in a cramped kitchen, relying entirely on his culinary skills to survive. But it didn’t matter how talented he was if he couldn’t afford ingredients and if the better looking restuant in the street attracted all the customers.

Getting into the cooking competition and coming out as the winner was his great fortune. He thought now he would be set for life, open his own restaurant until he was told the terms that he would be a live-in chef, and that he could bring his relatives to live with him as well. It was even better, but he had no relative adn stated it on the form he signed.

And here he was, dropped into this sprawling, ultra-luxurious estate—surrounded by a ruthless underworld lords, an elite heir, the country’s richest tycoon, and the terrifyingly sharp April. It was very overwhelming.

If it weren’t for Emily’s gentle, unconditional warmth anchoring him, he probably would have bolted out the gates hours ago.

Emily beamed, reaching out to gently tug on Philippe’s sleeve until he sat down beside her, his shoulders still hitched slightly high with nervous tension.

Emily beamed, reaching out to gently tug on Philippe’s sleeve until he sat down beside her, his shoulders still hitched slightly high with nervous tension.

"He’s been working on the tarts since eight this morning, April," Emily gushed softly, her eyes sparkling as she looked at him with unreserved affection. "He was so worried you wouldn’t like the sweetness level."

"It... it’s just a simple lemon-thyme glaze," Philippe added softly, giving Emily a quick, bashful glance before looking back down at his teacup. "I didn’t want to use anything too heavy."

April kept looking at him—his posture slightly hunched, his hands calloused from years of hard kitchen labor, his eyes wide and completely devoid of the sharp, predatory arrogance that filled the main house.

He was earnest, humble, and completely smitten with her twin.

She could tell. After all, she wasn’t just looking at his face; she was currently reading his love fortune displayed directly in front of her vision:

[Target—Philippe Russo]

[Foresight: Love & Destiny]

[Affection Status: Completely smitten by the girl beside him. Wishes for a quiet future with her and holds zero malice or intent of betrayal.]

Well, as long as he has no plan to betray Emily, I guess I can close one eye to this little relationship. But how long will this little relationship last? She wondered and skimmed down to the bottom of the reading, only for her body to go rigid.

[Destiny Trajectory:However, this love will not bloom forever. A great misfortune will occur.]

Her heart nearly split. What did it mean by a great misfortune? Would he die? It didn’t say he would stop loving her or cheat, so what would happen to him? The sudden revelation made her blood run cold. Or... what would happen to Emily?

No, nothing could happen to Emily.

A sudden spike of cold panic hit her chest. In case anything threatened her sister, she decided she would assign Oliver his class as soon as possible so Emily’s death fortune and Lucky Foresight Protection would fully activate in her tab.

That way, she could be notified immediately before anything happened to her sister. As for Philippe, she tried to peer deeper through the foresight interface to see past the misfortune, but it did not show anything further.

She wondered if it was because it was too far in the future. If that was the case, then maybe she still had time—though she could not shake the heavy, suffocating feeling settling in her heart.

Glancing back over her shoulder toward the terrace shadows where Nat, Alexander, and Xavier stood like a pack of silent, watching wolves, April let out a slow, quiet breath.

Philippe had a dark, unknown misfortune waiting for him somewhere down the line—that much was certain. But looking at him now, timidly pouring tea, she knew he wasn’t a threat. He wasn’t loud, dangerous, or suffocatingly possessive like her own men. He didn’t carry a million hidden motives or scheme to control the board.

He was just a man who loved her sister simply and completely.

A misfortune can be fought, April thought, her gaze hardening with subtle resolve. As long as he isn’t the danger himself, I can work with that.

Emily didn’t need another predator in her life. She needed someone grounding—someone who looked at her like she was his entire world, even if that world was on a timer.

A soft, genuine curve touched April’s lips as she picked up a delicate pastry fork, taking a small bite of the tart.

"The crust is light, Philippe," April said gently, her voice smooth and reassuring. "And the glaze is perfect. You don’t need to be so tense around me."

Philippe’s eyes snapped up, widening slightly in surprise before a small, relieved smile broke across his face. "T-Thank you, Miss April. That means a lot."

Emily squeezed Philippe’s hand under the table, beaming like she had just won her own grand prize. "See? I told you she’d love it!"

April took a sip of her tea, letting the peaceful warmth of the sun-drenched conservatory settle over her. With only ten days left before the world fell apart, watching her sister laugh so freely alongside a man who genuinely cherished her was a rare, beautiful breath of fresh air.

Her fingers lightly stroked the cool silver ring on her middle finger, a quiet, knowing smirk returning to her face as she looked back out toward the terrace. Everything was falling into place.
