Apocalypse: Rebirth With An Infinite Storage System
Chapter 312: Monster spray.
She sat beside her aunt, her expression unreadable as she stared ahead in silence. There was no visible reaction on her face, no sudden gasp of disbelief, and no immediate words of comfort. She simply remained still, allowing Aunt Clara’s sobs to fill the room.
It was not the reaction Aunt Clara had expected, especially after finally revealing something she had carried in her heart for so long. She had imagined Ivy would be shocked, perhaps even devastated, upon hearing that her grandparents and mother were dead hence if she was still looking for them in the apocalypse then she better stop.
After all, they had been Ivy’s family long before the apocalypse turned the world into a living nightmare. And the timing of their deaths made the revelation even more painful. Her grandparents and mother had died on the very day Aunt Clara returned to the country, with the apocalypse beginning almost immediately afterward.
Yet Ivy remained silent.
Aunt Clara slowly raised her head, her tear-filled eyes searching Ivy’s face for any indication of what she was thinking.
“Ivy?” she called softly, her voice trembling with uncertainty.
Still, Ivy did not respond immediately.
She lowered her gaze to their joined hands, her fingers moving slightly beneath Aunt Clara’s tight grip.
“Y…You’re not saying anything?” Aunt Clara finally asked, raising an eyebrow, with shock written all over her face. “I tried looking for you, but I couldn’t find you anywhere.”
She stared at Ivy for a moment, seemingly trying to understand the lack of reaction from her niece.
Is it that she can’t cry out loud, or is she crying inwardly? Aunt Clara muttered under her breath, her confusion growing as she studied Ivy’s face. Or did she not hear everything I just said?
“Did you hear what I said, Ivy?” she asked again, raising an eyebrow, curiosity evident in her tear-filled eyes. “Or did you already know about all this?”
“Yes, Auntie. I already know about all of it, and I made sure to burry my grandparents and mother,” Ivy replied, forcing a smile onto her face.
I knew they wouldn’t survive. After all, I had already witnessed them die in my previous life just at the beginning of the apocalypse.
Ivy swallowed hard, keeping her thoughts to herself as she maintained the faint smile on her face. There was no need to explain everything to Aunt Clara just yet, especially when her aunt had only just escaped the Kforce Organization and was still recovering from everything she had endured.
“I thought you weren’t aware of what had happened to them.” Aunt Clara sighed, her expression softening as she held Ivy’s hand tightly. “I’m so sorry for your loss, Ivy. You must have gone through so much all by yourself.”
She paused, looking at her niece with a mixture of admiration and heartache.
“You’re truly a strong girl.”
“It’s fine, Auntie. Now that we’ve finished this conversation, you should get some rest. We can talk again tomorrow morning when you’re feeling better.” Ivy smiled reassuringly, hoping to persuade her aunt to stop pushing herself. “You’ve been through a lot, and you need to take care of yourself, too.”
With that, Ivy began to rise from her seat. However, just as she was about to stand up, Aunt Clara suddenly tightened her grip on her hand and pulled her back down.
“What’s wrong?” Ivy asked, raising her eyebrows in confusion as she turned to look at her aunt. “Is there something else you want to tell me?”
“There’s still something I need to tell you.” Aunt Clara let out a heavy sigh, her expression turning serious once again. “I’m not done yet.”
“And what might that be, please?” Ivy asked, settling back into her seat and straightening her posture. “I’m all ears.”
“I am a monster research expert,” Aunt Clara began, her tone growing solemn as she prepared to reveal another shocking secret. “And the monster hypnosis spray you encountered previously was something I developed myself. The Kforce Organization captured me shortly after my supply of the spray ran out.”
“Huh?” Ivy exclaimed, her eyebrows shooting up in surprise. She stared at her aunt for a moment, trying to process what she had just heard. “Wait a minute. Are you saying you formulated a spray that could slow down the transmission of the monster virus into human blood, thereby preventing people from transforming even after they’ve been bitten?”
“Yes, Ivy.” Aunt Clara nodded firmly. “That’s exactly what it does. The spray can slow down the virus and prevent it from spreading rapidly through the bloodstream, buying the infected person enough time for us to monitor their condition.”
She paused briefly before continuing, her expression filled with seriousness.
“If the infected person is monitored closely after receiving the treatment, the spray has the potential to eliminate the monster virus from their body completely. Of course, there’s also the possibility that the treatment might fail, but ever since I developed the formula, it has never failed on anyone I’ve treated.”
Aunt Clara sighed heavily before continuing her explanation.
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t produce another batch after the one I had ran out. The Kforce Organization captured me before I could gather the materials I needed, and I spent all that time in their custody. They don’t even know about my expertise in monster research, so I couldn’t exactly ask them for the resources I needed to continue my work.”
Ivy stared at her aunt in disbelief for a few seconds before her expression gradually brightened.
“That’s incredible, Auntie!” she exclaimed, unable to hide her excitement. “Do you realize what this means?”
Aunt Clara looked at her curiously but said nothing, allowing Ivy to continue.
With a skill like this, we can save people who have been bitten by monsters before they completely transform. As long as we can administer the spray in time and monitor their condition, we might be able to save countless survivors.
A satisfied smile spread across Ivy’s face as she considered the possibilities. In a world where a single monster bite could sentence someone to death or turn them into a mindless creature, a treatment capable of stopping the virus could change everything.
Not only would it give survivors hope, but it could also save countless lives that would otherwise be lost to the apocalypse.
“Alright, Auntie. Now that you’ve finally escaped the Kforce Organization, you can start producing the spray again.” Ivy turned to her with a reassuring smile. “Don’t worry about the resources you’ll need. We’ll provide you with all the herbs and other materials required to make it. Whatever you need for your research, just let me know, and I’ll make sure you get it.”
“I’ll definitely make it, Ivy,” Aunt Clara promised, nodding with determination. “Now that I’m finally free, I won’t allow what happened to stop me from continuing my research. If there’s a chance I can save even more people with this formula, then I’ll do everything in my power to make it happen.”
“Good. That’s what I like to hear.” Ivy smiled in satisfaction before glancing towards the bathroom. “Now, we’ve talked enough for tonight. You should go and eat something before taking a proper bath and getting some rest. You need it.”
Aunt Clara nodded in response, finally accepting that her niece wasn’t going to let her continue talking indefinitely.
“Alright, Ivy. Thank you.”
“You don’t have to thank me, Auntie. You’re family, after all.” Ivy gave her hand a gentle squeeze before releasing it. “We’ll talk more tomorrow morning. For now, just take care of yourself.”
With that, Aunt Clara rose from her seat and made her way towards the bathroom to take a proper bath while Ivy excused herself from the room.
