Chapter 230: Chapter 230 Surgery

Laurel glanced at him before turning back to Ida. "I’ll do everything I can, Stefan. But Ida has already lost too much blood, and she should have received proper treatment much earlier. We can’t waste any more time."

Stefan nodded and stepped away from the door, allowing the doctors and nurses to move Ida towards the operating room.

A nurse soon arrived with the blood Ida needed. Laurel carefully checked the blood bag and Ida’s medical records to make sure it was safe for her before connecting it to the tube in her arm. She watched the monitor closely as the blood slowly entered Ida’s body, hoping it would help her weak heart continue pumping.

Although Ida’s condition had not improved much, Laurel knew they could not wait any longer. She instructed the nurses to continue giving her blood while the doctors prepared her for surgery.

Inside her mind, Ling Xuan’s cold voice suddenly sounded.

’Margaret stopped them from treating her... Interesting.’

Laurel’s fingers tightened around the medical record she was holding. ’That’s what the nurse told me. But I’ll deal with Margaret after Ida is out of danger.’

Ling Xuan remained silent, although Laurel could already sense her anger.

Once everything was ready, Laurel put on her surgical clothes, washed her hands thoroughly and entered the operating room. Ida lay motionless beneath the bright lights, her pale face making Laurel even more determined to save her.

After the medicine used to keep Ida asleep during the operation had taken effect, Laurel carefully opened the injured area of her stomach. She immediately saw blood that had gathered inside. One of the monster’s claws had torn a blood vessel, and although the wound on the outside had been covered, the bleeding inside had continued.

Laurel worked carefully with the other doctors, removing the collected blood so she could see the damaged area clearly. Once she found the torn blood vessel, she stopped the bleeding and repaired the damage. She then checked the surrounding organs to make sure there were no other hidden injuries.

Throughout the operation, a nurse continued watching Ida’s heartbeat and blood pressure. Whenever the numbers changed, Laurel listened to the updates while concentrating on her work.

After the bleeding was stopped and the damaged area was repaired, Ida’s blood pressure slowly began to rise. Her heartbeat, which had been dangerously fast, also started returning towards normal.

Laurel finally released a quiet breath of relief. The operation had been successful, but Ida had lost too much blood to recover immediately. She would still need close attention, especially because her injuries had gone without proper treatment for so long.

Once Laurel finished closing the wound and covering it with a clean dressing, the nurses carefully moved Ida to a recovery room, where machines would continue watching her heartbeat, breathing and blood pressure.

Ida was still unconscious, but at least she was no longer in danger. Laurel removed her gloves and washed her hands. Only then did she realize how tense her shoulders had become during the operation. Her hands shook slightly, if hadn’t returned on time, Ida would not have made it. It was even a miracle that she was still alive... but she couldn’t help but to wonder how the fortress was being managed all this while.

Grandpa Wayne was poisoned. She believed he was yet to be cured... her fist curled tightly into a fist.

When she stepped outside, Stefan immediately approached her. He had been waiting in the corridor the entire time, unable to sit still.

"How is she?" Stefan asked anxiously, searching Laurel’s face for an answer.

"The operation went well," Laurel reassured him, giving him a small smile. "We found where she was bleeding and stopped it. We’ve also given her blood to replace some of what she lost. Her condition is improving, but she’s still very weak, and we need to watch her closely."

Stefan closed his eyes, releasing a long breath. His shoulders finally relaxed a little. "Thank you, Laurel," Stefan murmured, his voice filled with relief.

Laurel gently shook her head. "You can thank me when she’s awake and talking to you again. For now, let her rest."

She then turned towards the nurse standing nearby. "Keep all of Ida’s medical records, including the request for blood that was rejected," Laurel instructed firmly. "I also want a copy of the order that stopped her from receiving treatment. Send everything directly to my office."

The nurse nodded immediately. "Yes, Commander. I’ll have them prepared."

Laurel looked through the glass window at Ida lying on the recovery bed. She couldn’t understand how Margaret could have refused proper treatment to someone who was fighting for her life, simply because she wasn’t a soldier.

But there was no point confronting Margaret while Ida and the children still needed her. Pushing those thoughts aside, Laurel returned to the children’s room.

Alexander was sitting beside Tina’s bed when she entered. The little girl had fallen asleep, with one of her hands resting in his. Jack lay on the neighboring bed, still unconscious, while the machine beside him continued monitoring his condition.

Alexander immediately stood when he noticed Laurel. There was dust on his clothes, and he looked exhausted from everything that had happened at the western wall.

"Laurel, how are they?" Alexander asked, glancing worriedly at the children. "Stefan told me they were brought back injured."

"Tina hurt her knee and hit her head, but fortunately, she doesn’t have any broken bones or serious head injuries," Laurel explained as she approached Jack’s bed. "She’ll need plenty of rest, and she won’t be walking around for some time."

Alexander nodded, then looked towards Jack. "And him?"

Laurel’s expression became serious. "Jack’s injuries are more concerning. The scan showed bleeding inside his skull, which explains why he hasn’t woken up. We’re treating him and watching him closely, but his condition is still serious."

Alexander stared at the unconscious boy for a moment before looking at Tina again. He slowly pulled his chair closer to her bed.

"I’ll stay with Tina," Alexander assured her. "You concentrate on Jack."

Laurel nodded gratefully before sitting beside Jack. She examined the readings on the monitor and checked his eyes again, making sure his condition had not worsened while she was operating on Ida. Thankfully, there had been no dangerous changes, although he still showed no sign of waking up.

Laurel gently placed her hand over his. "You’ve already done so much to protect Tina," she whispered, looking at his pale face. "Now it’s time for you to rest and let us take care of you."

Across the room, Tina moved slightly in her sleep, and Alexander immediately leaned forward to adjust her pillow. Laurel watched him for a moment before turning her attention towards the door.

Ida was lying unconscious in another room, while her son was still fighting to recover from his own injuries. Laurel could only hope that when Jack finally opened his eyes, his mother would be awake to welcome him home.
