Chapter 125: Chapter 125 Explosion!

PRESENT!!

The memories came crashing back all at once.

Luna suddenly turned around, trying to hide her face as she cried. It hurt. It hurt so much that the pathetic life she had lived in her first life was actually hers.

But strangely enough, it wasn’t even the fact that she had died that hurt her soul the most. It was the people she had wanted to punish—the people who had betrayed her, the people who had made her suffer. They might already be dead.

She had returned to this life with every intention of making them pay for what they had done, but instead, she had spent all her time preparing for the apocalypse. Stockpiling. Gathering supplies. Building a safe place. Making sure she and her men could survive.

And now that she thought about it, she hadn’t even gotten the opportunity to give those people the punishment they deserved. What if they were already dead? What if she had missed her chance?

Luna wiped her cheeks angrily. "Damn it..."

Rowan, although exhausted, looked at her with sympathy in his eyes. Somewhere along the way, he had always felt that there was something tying all of them together. Now he finally understood. They were survivors who had all experienced betrayal from people close to them in their previous lives. And somehow, after everything they had gone through, they had ended up finding each other in this life.

"You know what, Luna," Rowan said quietly.

Luna turned slightly toward him.

"You aren’t the only one who was betrayed by your family." His voice was calm, but there was something painful underneath it. "I received similar treatment. I might have died out there if it wasn’t for you."

Luna’s eyes softened. "I’m sorry you had to experience that."

Rowan looked away for a moment. "No one deserves such a cruel fate. It’s just unjust." He paused. "And forgive us for making you revisit your pain. It wasn’t intentional."

Luna’s lips trembled. She quickly wiped her eyes.

Kai gave her a soft smile. That somehow made things worse. Luna hiccupped. She hated this. It was embarrassing. She had told herself over and over that she wouldn’t cry over what happened in her previous life. She had promised herself that she wouldn’t allow those memories to control her. Yet here she was—crying right in front of her men like some helpless fool.

"I am sorry, Luna." Ethan spoke slowly. "Sorry we judged you so harshly."

Luna looked at him.

"And again, I’m sorry for being a pain in the ass." He sighed. "I don’t know what I did to deserve the treatment you gave me before."

That was enough. Luna couldn’t take it anymore. They couldn’t keep saying these sentimental things and making her want to bawl her eyes out. It was already hard enough explaining everything without having all of them making her emotional.

"Please, stop with the sentimental stuff." She sniffed and wiped her face. "You’re all getting on my nerves."

Kai blinked.

Luna glared at all of them. "Can we stop doing this and get the fuck out of here before we die?"

The atmosphere immediately changed.

Adrian nodded. Unlike the others, he hadn’t said much about Luna’s past life. He had mostly been listening.

"I know we shouldn’t keep bringing this up," Adrian began, "but you said you met us before."

Luna looked at him.

"Are you sure it was actually us?" She frowned. "Because how could you remember everything while we don’t remember anything?" He glanced at the others. "That’s something we need to consider, right?"

Luna’s eyes widened. She had never thought about it that way. That’s right. These men were exactly the same men she had known in her previous life. So where were the versions of them that had died beside her? Shouldn’t they have returned with her too?

"Wait." Luna looked at them. "You guys don’t get anything?"

They shook their heads.

"Not even a flash of memories or something?"

Luna squatted down and began helping them clean themselves up. Blood and dirt covered their clothes and bodies. Ethan had already healed most of their wounds, but some injuries had been too deep for even his abilities to completely deal with. Luna carefully cleaned and covered them before they could become infected.

She had learned that lesson the hard way. Sometimes, the biggest threat wasn’t the zombies. It wasn’t even the monsters. Sometimes, it was the wounds on your own body. If they weren’t treated properly, a simple injury could become fatal. That was one of the things that had eventually contributed to her death in her previous life.

Luna moved to Rowan next. His stomach was bandaged, along with his elbow, neck, head, and face. There were so many injuries that Luna couldn’t help but sigh. "You really got yourself beaten up."

Rowan gave her a tired look. "I was busy."

"Clearly."

She continued cleaning the wound.

Kai drank more of his energy drink, trying desperately to replenish his strength. He knew they couldn’t relax for long. They still had to return to their base. And the ocean between them and the island was another problem entirely. How were they supposed to fight their way across such a massive body of water? At least the drink gave him something to focus on.

"I didn’t remember anything," Kai finally answered Luna’s earlier question. "Not even a flash." He shook his head. "Nothing feels familiar."

Adrian was next. As Luna bandaged his wounds, he finally spoke. "I know this sounds ridiculous, but you said you came from your world and appeared in this particular body."

Luna paused.

"That should mean the inhabitant of this body—the original owner—was already dead, right?"

Luna stared at him.

Adrian continued, "Isn’t that how transmigration or rebirth works in novels and movies?"

Once again, Luna froze. That was something she hadn’t considered. When she returned, she had immediately assumed she had simply gone back in time. Her dead brain hadn’t even stopped to consider what might have happened to the original owner of this body. If there had been another soul occupying it before her... What had happened to that soul? What had caused her to take over? And if it happened once, could it happen again?

Luna frowned. "That’s actually something I haven’t looked into." She sighed. "That’s alright. I’ll figure it out."

Adrian looked at her.

"And it’s not ridiculous." Luna continued wrapping the bandage. "Believe it or not, there could be several parallel worlds around us. This might just be one of the fabrics of reality." She shrugged. "There could be another version of you in another world fighting for his life right now."

Adrian stared at her. "And you find that comforting?"

"No." Luna tightened the bandage. "But it’s possible." She looked at him. "There could be countless versions of us. We simply don’t know how many."

Once she finished, Luna turned toward Ethan. He was breathing heavily. His face was pale. He had used almost everything he had to heal the entire group.

"Come here, man."

Ethan blinked. He looked around. Was she actually talking to him?

"You really did a wonderful job."

Ethan’s eyebrows lifted. "Me?"

Luna frowned. "Aren’t you the only person standing right there?" She pointed at him. "Or do you want the corpse to come over here instead?"

Ethan immediately got up. He walked toward her somewhat dizzily. Luna handed him an energy drink. Then she gently cupped his chin. "You don’t look good."

Ethan stared at her.

"Although you’re a healer, remember your own health first." She frowned. "If you die, who is going to heal you?"

Ethan didn’t answer.

Luna took a bottle of water and poured some into a small bowl she had brought from her space. She dipped a fresh cloth into it and slowly placed it against his forehead. Ethan immediately sighed. "That’s nice." He sat down properly while Luna continued attending to him.

She wasn’t sure why she was suddenly being so attentive. Maybe she had learned something from her previous life. Back then, she had never really had companions like these men. She had saved their lives in one way or another, but they had never been obligated to stay with her. Yet they had chosen to. They had chosen her. And all she could do now was take care of them.

Maybe she didn’t need to be a bitch to them all the time.

Luna looked at them quietly. She didn’t know how her life would turn out if any of them died because of her. She had already experienced losing people once. She didn’t think her soul could survive watching it happen again.

"Maybe we’re getting too relaxed for people whose base is currently under attack."

Rowan’s voice brought her back to reality. Luna looked at him.

"I know we haven’t heard anyone coming toward us, but we can’t stay here anymore." His expression became serious. "It’s dangerous."

Luna was about to answer when her system suddenly blinked.

[Alert! Alert! Incoming call transmission from Miles and Astrid!]

Luna’s eyes widened. She immediately activated the communication. "Miles?"

A familiar voice came through. "Luna Hart, we did it."

Luna’s heart skipped.

"The base is safe." Astrid’s voice sounded exhausted. "You can return home in peace. Miles and I will try to repair the damage." A pause. "Sorry for making you scared. Please take good care of yourself and be safe until you return."

The call ended. Luna stared at the device. For a moment, she said nothing. Then her lips slowly curved upward. They did it. They had actually done it. Her base was safe. Her men were alive. Miles and Astrid had protected everything she had worked so hard to build.

"What the fuck?"

Kai’s voice immediately shattered the moment. Luna looked at him.

"Is that a smile I’m seeing on Luna’s face?" His eyes widened dramatically. "Wow. Someone write this down. We might never see it again."

Luna immediately grabbed the cloth she had been using to clean Ethan’s forehead and threw it at him. Kai recoiled while laughing. "Fuck you!"

Luna glared at him. Kai laughed even harder.

But before Luna could demand her cloth back—BANG!

A gunshot echoed through the structure. Everyone froze. Footsteps followed. Fast. Heavy. Coming straight toward them.

Luna’s eyes widened. "Everyone, get ready."

Before anyone could react, another gunshot rang out. Then another. Bullets began raining toward them.

Luna moved instantly. She knew exactly what to do. "Automatic shield blocker!" She raised her voice. "Everyone say it with me!"

The others immediately understood. "Automatic shield blocker!"

Their voices overlapped. Instantly, their uniforms began adjusting. A powerful shield erupted around their bodies.

The first wave of bullets struck. CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! The bullets bounced off the shields. But there were too many. More gunfire exploded from the darkness. The entire structure shook.

Then—BOOM!

A massive explosion ripped through the supermarket. The walls trembled. Concrete shattered. Metal twisted. Fire erupted through the corridors. The supermarket began collapsing.
