Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

Chapter 421 - 370: Facing the Horde of Corpses

"Brother Su, Brother Su, this is Wu Lue, the zombie horde is approximately two kilometers from the camp. Requesting permission to use explosives to bomb the zombies!"

Zhang Su just stepped out of Jingxin Garden, planning to find a place with a good view to assess the situation, when Wu Lue’s urgent voice came through the walkie-talkie, already providing more detailed intelligence.

Two kilometers?

Hearing this, Zhang Su let out a long sigh of relief. If the horde is still this far away, they have much more room to maneuver. The biggest fear was a direct approach to the gates, but that kind of situation is unlikely to occur with increased vigilance.

"Luezi, don’t consider explosives! Immediately use drone sound to try and slow the zombies’ advance. Everyone else, head to the parking lot and be on standby—all personnel, full combat gear!"

With over thirty thousand zombies spread over such a wide area, unless they use the Venom Liquid, regular explosives would have limited effectiveness and might even ignite the zombies, causing unpredictable incidents!

Where there’s room, it’s best to use more reliable methods to solve the problem.

"Pan Guoliang, Yang Liehuo, Lü Leiyang, organize the Reserve Team members immediately, bring all available vehicles and be on standby on the main road!"

While running toward his residence, Zhang Su continued to issue commands.

"Roger that!"

"Understood..."

The three were already in Satellite Village training with the Reserve Team members and responded immediately upon receiving the message.

"Quickly, quickly, your gear is all laid out for you, Xiaoshan has already gone to meet up!"

Sprinting back home, Zheng Xinyu was already geared up, and Zhang Su’s weapons and other equipment were spread out on the bed.

"Damn, whether it’s a naturally formed horde or someone causing trouble behind the scenes!"

Zhang Su cursed under his breath while his hands kept busy. He usually didn’t carry weapons in camp, except for the Venom Liquid he kept on him and at most a military knife.

"Causing trouble behind the scenes? You think someone deliberately directed the zombies towards us? Is it people from the Mountain and Sea District?"

Zheng Xinyu was sharp enough to recall Zhang Su’s earlier encounters outside.

Zhang Su shook his head noncommittally, checked the magazine, slid it into his tactical belt, and marched toward the door saying, "I hope I am overthinking, but we must be mentally prepared for human adversaries."

The zombie horde indeed posed a great threat, but there were many ways to mitigate the danger when it was three kilometers away from the camp. However, if this was the result of human manipulation, things would get complicated!

Arriving at the parking lot, the main team was fully prepared. Apart from Fu Weijun, Xie Yanshan, and Wu Lue operating a drone from a rooftop, even Ma Changshou and Yi Xiaoling were in formation. With the zombie horde approaching, it was the camp’s most critical moment, and no one could stay out of it.

"Luezi, report the situation!"

Zhang Su stood in front of the crowd, using the walkie-talkie to contact Wu Lue.

"Reporting! I’ve temporarily controlled the horde’s speed. The lead zombies have been drawn in by the drone’s loudspeaker and have stopped. The zombies behind are squeezing forward, turning into a chaotic mess!"

Wu Lue’s excited voice rang out. Though he had a low presence in previous battles, this time he was making a key contribution with the right tools.

The team could imagine the chaotic scene, all secretly relieved. As long as the zombies weren’t charging straight at the camp, it was manageable!

"Have you noticed anything suspicious around the horde, like people or vehicles?"

Zhang Su continued to ask.

"No, no, I circled around before and saw no one or vehicles within at least two kilometers of the horde. The road to the north is at least ten kilometers clear!"

Wu Lue confidently reported the situation. The drone flew in the air with a precise camera, providing a clear view, especially in broad daylight.

"OK, keep at it. We’re heading down the mountain, stay in touch!"

Given the current situation, it was evident that the horde had formed naturally, putting Zhang Su’s mind at ease. He addressed the group, "Remember, our main goal is to guide the zombies towards the west, northwest, and north. Avoid engaging in combat unless absolutely necessary. Experienced drivers pair with a co-pilot in the passenger seat. Move out!"

"Yes!"

After the resounding response, everyone swiftly took action. Members of the Celestial Horse Island Elite Corps poured out, vehicles starting one after another, driving through the open mountain gates. Around twenty vehicles descended the mountain, creating an impressive spectacle!

Everyone understood that the surefire way to deal with zombies is to eliminate them, but if things go wrong, it could cost lives.

Zhang Su naturally considered everyone’s safety, planning to divide and redirect the zombies first, then gradually eliminate them later, minimizing risk.

"Reporting! The Reserve Team is assembled and ready for instructions!"

Yang Liehuo, seeing the convoy approach via a self-built road, stepped forward with a solemn expression.

The Reserve Team mobilized quickly upon notification, but their situation was rather shabby with only four cars, and the rest being motorcycles and electric scooters, one woman even pushing a bicycle.

Sitting in a car, Zhang Su observed the tense faces of the Reserve Team members and reassured them, "Rest assured, this horde is smaller than the one the Cyan Dragon Corps faced before. Our main task is to guide the zombies into nearby villages to contain them. Many of you may be participating in this task for the first time. Follow us and learn, there’s no danger, don’t panic!"

After the briefing, the Reserve Team clearly felt more at ease.

Without further ado, the convoy of over twenty vehicles drove northwards. Soon, the horde appeared before them.

A drone with a large loudspeaker hovered leisurely in the sky, blaring out intense heavy metal music. Below, the densely packed zombies were drawn in, forming ring after ring around it, all reaching up to the sky, trying to grab the drone down!

To the battle-hardened individuals on Celestial Horse Island, the zombies’ silly appearance seemed quite amusing.

But the scene was viewed differently by most of the Reserve Team. Facing such a massive horde, even knowing they didn’t need to confront it directly, everyone felt weighed down. The women’s unit fueled each other with energy and motivation, realizing the gap between training and actual combat.

"Oh my gosh, if this horde charges our camp, it would be quite the ordeal!"

The convoy stopped in a barren field. Zhao Dezhu, sitting in a car nearby FJ Cruiser, said with a cigarette in his mouth.

Zhang Su was startled by Zhao Dezhu’s voice, wondering how he dared to drive until noticing Lu Yubo in the driver’s seat, which reassured him. Opening the door and getting off, he said, "If we wait until the horde reaches our doorstep, the scouts might as well eat shit!"

After speaking, he climbed onto the car roof in a few strides to look at the horde, then took out the walkie-talkie: "Luezi, the horde is completely drawn to the loudspeaker sound. Try to guide them towards Niuquanzi Town to the northwest and see what happens!"

"Roger that!"

Following the response, everyone saw the drone in the distant sky begin to move slowly, first circling, then gradually flying towards Niuquanzi Town. However, the expected scene of the horde moving uniformly with the sound did not occur...

The drone was unable to take the massive horde along with it in any orderly fashion, with chaos erupting within the crowded horde. They pushed and jostled, with each zombie reacting differently. Some keenly followed the sound source with the drone, while others remained sluggish in place, with speeds varying greatly.

As the drone moved about a hundred meters northwest, it forcefully tore the horde apart, taking only a small group of about three to four thousand zombies. The rest stayed in a chaotic state, and even among the three to four thousand that moved, some zombies lost focus and strayed during the process...

Wu Lue made various attempts, adjusting the drone’s speed, direction, and altitude. However, no matter what, the number of zombies following the drone couldn’t significantly increase unless the loudspeaker’s volume could be further amplified, but it was already at its limit.

"Damn, this isn’t working; we still have to get hands-on!"

Zhao Dezhu, peering into the distance through binoculars, clicked his tongue.

The group was somewhat disappointed with the situation, having thought that high-tech would solve everything, only to be taught a lesson by reality.

"It’s not bad!"

Zhang Su squinted slightly, not as greedy as the others. To him, the current effect was already as expected. Taking out the walkie-talkie, he said, "Luezi, how much longer can the drone’s battery last? How many such attempts can you make to pull the horde like this?"

"Brother Su, just this one time, I’m afraid, since going a bit faster would lose them, and this horde is so damn useless!"

Wu Lue felt powerless. Going back and forth quickly would mean ten more trips easily, but pulling the horde can’t be too fast, or a large number of zombies would lose the attraction, and even at slow speed, the drone’s power consumption doesn’t decrease much, as it’s not a linear relationship...

"Alright, once is enough. You’re in charge of leading the zombies you pulled away now. Try to guide them as far as possible, but make sure the drone stays safe. Don’t worry about the rest; we’ll handle it!"

Zhang Su was quite satisfied with the drone’s performance. Dealing with about four thousand zombies with just one person was already impressive, considering driving to lead zombies wasn’t something one person could do!
