Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 684 - 555: Please Take Me as Your Disciple! (2)
Zheng Ziwen felt wronged.
Previously, Ding Yong Country, seeing Zhang Su’s divine bravado, wanted to swallow his pride and intercede for his unpromising nephew, but Zheng Ziwen felt such behavior was beneath him. After a brief argument, Wang Zhetao seized the opportunity.
"Go, go, go, for heaven’s sake, wait for next time!" Ding Yong Country ignored Zheng Ziwen.
Ding Yong Country didn’t realize that being first in these matters doesn’t always work.
"Where’s the rope in your hand?"
Zhang Su looked Wang Zhetao up and down, suddenly pointing at his hands.
Logically, people from Niu YaZI would have their hands bound, yet Wang Zhetao’s hands were free!
"I..." Wang Zhetao became embarrassed, scratching his head, "I, I just untied them."
Zhang Su’s face darkened slightly, but he didn’t lose his temper on the spot. Just as he was about to dismiss him, his ear caught Wang Guangjun calling Xiaotao from afar, Xiaotao...
"Old Tan, Old Wang is looking for him, take him to find Old Wang there, and tie his hands up again."
"This...I."
Wang Zhetao instantly deflated, dejected.
Tan Huajun nodded, stepped forward, and patted Wang Zhetao’s shoulder, saying, "Why did you run off without letting your dad know? Don’t you know his condition? It’s so dangerous!"
Wang Zhetao kept his head down, not speaking. As he brushed past Zheng Ziwen, he turned to take a glance at the Yama Corps crowd.
Clusters of people gathered, making for easy comparison. Whether in spirit or attire, the Yama Corps people were not in the same league as other survivors, giving the impression of a formal army rescuing refugees.
Wang Zhetao’s face was full of envy; unfortunately, he didn’t belong to that group. When he turned to see where Niu YaZI survivors congregated, he couldn’t help frowning.
"This guy is so unreliable. His dad is deaf and blind, yet he comes here trying to curry favor and become an apprentice. Unreliable, extremely unreliable!"
Pang Dakun shook his head, criticizing Wang Zhetao in a grown-up manner.
In the past, Zhang Su would have scolded Pang Dakun for acting grown-up despite being a kid, but not this time. Watching Tan Huajun and Wang Zhetao’s retreating figures, Tan Huajun was still teaching diligently; however, Wang Zhetao’s level of acceptance wasn’t high.
"Xiaowang’s character is the opposite of his dad’s; I guess he takes after his mom."
Zhong Xiaoshan mused aloud.
She had been around Wang Guangjun as long as Zhang Su had and understood him well. You couldn’t see any trace of Wang Guangjun’s personality in Wang Zhetao.
"Don’t make me laugh, he doesn’t even look like him."
Zheng Xinyu nodded thoughtfully, adding.
"Geez, if we keep talking, Old Wang might even get a paternity test..."
Pan Guoliang grinned.
"Sample what? No badmouthing my Uncle Wang!"
Lu Yubo was somewhat displeased, looking at Pan Guoliang.
Zhang Su waved his hand with a smile, "Bozai, no one’s badmouthing Old Wang, just discussing his son’s affairs. You’re about the same age as Wang Zhetao, what do you think of him?"
The situation wasn’t as exaggerated as Pan Guoliang suggested. During Wang Guangjun’s marriageable time, society was still relatively innocent, so such things were unlikely. Wang Zhetao’s starkly different personality wasn’t so hard to understand, as his living environment and education were completely different from Wang Guangjun’s.
"That guy..." Lu Yubo wrinkled his nose, making a distorted face, "Brother Su, remember Kuang Miao? He’s kind of like Kuang Miao, good at getting things done, but it’s too forced. I don’t like him!"
Kuang Miao was part of the four-person group that escaped from technical school with Chen Hanzhou and Pei Lan. Later, when another member, Song Yijun, broke with Zhang Su, Kuang Miao left with him.
"I think...Kuang Miao is different from him!"
Chen Hanzhou, next to them, rarely took over from Lu Yubo, countering to prevent misunderstandings.
"Kuang Miao was genuinely warm-hearted, often not expecting anything in return, not sycophantically currying favor. In school, he was very proactive in many matters. But that guy just now was different; he has strong ulterior motives and knows...uh, knows how to leverage relationships for personal gain."
Lu Yubo was initially upset when Chen Hanzhou refuted him, but then found it made sense, though he didn’t exactly know what to say, so he just nodded silently.
Zhang Su had already applied ointment on his face, lit a cigarette, and said, "Hope he doesn’t stir trouble using Old Wang’s connections. That’d be really annoying..."
"Brother Wang, Brother Wang!"
Tan Huajun, nearing the end of the convoy, saw Wang Guangjun looking around anxiously and hurriedly went over, grabbing his arm.
"Brother Wang, you’re looking for Xiaotao, right? I brought him back."
"Ah, Sister Tan, thank you, thank you so much."
Wang Guangjun, vaguely seeing Tan Huajun’s silhouette, thanked profusely, then noticed his son behind her. Anger surged, and he raised his hand to hit, "You little brat, where have you been running off to without saying a word? What if something happened?"
Zhang Su and others thought Wang Zhetao was effectively Wang Guangjun’s eyes and ears now. His sudden departure put Wang Guangjun in crisis, but Wang Guangjun actually worried more about his son’s safety. Strangers’ presence warranted caution.
Wang Zhetao, aware his dad was concerned, quickly ducked, then approached, loudly saying, "Dad, this is the foot of Celestial Horse Island Mountain, under King Yama’s watch. How could anything happen? I’m back, aren’t I..."
"What were you up to?"
Wang Guangjun pressed.
"Xiaotao was probably excited by Brother Su’s fight earlier, just saying a few words to us. Brother Wang, don’t get mad, ah, they’re calling us to set off again."
Seeing the father-son argument, Tan Huajun hurriedly mediated, only to turn and see Zhang Su urging everyone to head up the mountain.
Wang Guangjun took a deep breath, saying, "Thank you, thank you, Sister Tan, go ahead."
"Uh..." Tan Huajun, feeling awkward, rubbed her hands together and said, "There’s something else to resolve. Brother Wang, where’s the rope that was around Xiaotao before?"
"Huh?"
Wang Guangjun turned to look at his son. If Tan Huajun hadn’t mentioned it, he wouldn’t have known his son had stealthily slipped off the rope.
"You little rascal, how dare you? Where’s the rope?"
"Here..."
Wang Zhetao, feeling very wronged, pulled the rope out of his bag.
"Just you wait...Sister Tan, sorry to trouble you! Let me, I’ll tie it myself, and if you dare untie it again, I’ll break your leg!"
Wang Guangjun was genuinely angry. His son not only failed to earn him any face but utterly embarrassed him. Their hands were initially bound in front; now he planned a triple-flower reverse binding for Wang Zhetao!
"No, no, Brother Wang, that’s not good...let’s keep it like before."
Tan Huajun, watching, interceded for Wang Zhetao again, though she had some mild criticism for him in her heart, too. He was presentable, quite smooth in dealings, but in some ways, overly pragmatic, giving an indescribable feeling.
Indeed, the convoy set off; many chose to walk up the mountain rather than squeeze into cars. The one or two-kilometer journey was easy, exuding a company team-building vibe – quite magical, quite reminiscent.
Walking up the self-built road towards the mountain’s foot, the scene further north made people unconsciously slow their pace.
In the fields lay piles and piles of zombie corpses. Those with trypophobia might faint at the sight.
Many stood frozen, hair-raising, realizing Celestial Horse Island’s peace was not just luck, but won by sheer strength!
The cars behind stopped, all captivated by this magnificent scene.
Those involved in the previous defense battle recounted their heroic deeds to companions, leaving listeners moved.
"No wonder King Yama boasted earlier that he’d keep us warm. This...it’s simply overwhelming."
Someone recalled Zhang Su’s promise at Lego Mall, with confidence rooted in this.
The zombies, once fellow beings, evoke some sadness. Yet now, these zombie corpses were precious fuel, indeed a survival guarantee!
Of course, safeguarding these resources requires power. Like the formidable King Yama, the Yama Corps, well-equipped weapons, and more fighters!
No lingering; the walkers continued uphill, the convoy slowly followed behind.
