Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 780 - 651: Night Battle at Red Gully Village
"Come on, you three, hold the door for a moment! We need to make full use of the resources we have to kill the zombies!"
Duan Wuhu ran to the door, instructing Fan Donglu, Pu Chanyong, and Zhou Haiquan from the Dragon Head Camp to brace the iron door, then pointed towards the house: "Xiaolu, you go check the back door and scout the path. If we need to retreat, we need to know where to go!"
"When the zombies hit the door, I’ll open this small door to let them in, kill them one by one. Captain Shen, Old Yuan, you two team up with me to kill zombies. Xiaowu, listen up, we’ll pile the zombie corpses at the door as a barrier. You clear away the extras promptly!"
"Alright!"
Wu Lue had already retrieved the drone, gladly accepting the arrangement. His combat strength was among the weakest, but he was quite strong.
"Cold weapons?"
Shen Linrui asked puzzledly.
"Yes, use cold weapons first!"
Duan Wuhu responded directly, then added: "Check the ammunition. If we can’t hold, retreat into the house and shoot, but try not to use guns!"
Everyone’s ammunition was limited, and the threat of over a hundred zombies wasn’t too big. It was best to save the bullets unless absolutely necessary.
"Understood!"
Shen Linrui did not oppose Duan Wuhu’s command. Once he agreed, the others from the Dragon Head Camp naturally started moving too, except Wu Lue, who was still organizing. Everyone else was in position.
But there was still a little thing not doing anything, Flash!
The furry Flash was hiding under a flipped-over large black pot, watching outside through the cracks at its bottom. It felt uneasy but couldn’t pinpoint the source of this uneasiness.
Everyone ignored Flash’s presence...
Oww oww, howling!
The zombies sensed the presence of blood food, their howls urgent and eager, growing nearer.
Zhou Haiquan, Pu Chanyong, and the sturdy Fan Donglu found some wooden bars and pressed against the iron door, meanwhile using their shoulders and an arm to hold a hollow steel pipe used as a beam, faces tense.
"Uh, ah..."
Suddenly, a mysterious person squatting by the wall let out a twisted cry, looking very conflicted and pained.
"Buddy, it’s okay, it’s okay, come on, have a smoke, ease your mind. Sending them off is doing good deeds. You’ll become an immortal, don’t be sad."
Zhao Dezhu imitated Duan Wuhu’s tone to comfort the mysterious man, handing over a cigarette.
Bang bang, thud...
The mysterious person was just reaching for the cigarette when zombies were already pounding on the iron door, creating a series of thuds. The impact was manageable enough, and the three bracing the door did not show signs of struggle.
Bang bang rumble.
The rural homemade iron door was robust. The zombie pounding sounded like drumbeats, louder than rooster crows, rattling the teeth of the people inside, especially the three holding the door, whose hearts raced and ribs shook.
"I’m going to prepare to open the door, be ready!"
Duan Wuhu grabbed the latch of the small door!
"Let’s do it!"
Shen Linrui gripped his weapon tightly, a plain-looking Tang blade, sharpness glimmering on the edge, with a cloth wrapped around the handle.
Thud thud thud...
"The small road at the back is a bit messy, but it’s alright for retreat!"
Just then, Lu Yubo rushed over to report to everyone, swiftly drawing a food sampler, joining the combat group, while glancing at Zhao Dezhu and the mysterious man at the wall.
"Okay, going to open the door soon, three, two, hey!"
Duan Wuhu couldn’t dawdle any longer, as more zombies poured towards the door, increasing pressure on the three bracing it. Luckily, there was a slope outside the door, or they wouldn’t have held on. Immediate ’pressure release’ was essential.
Creaking, bang!
The zombie push made the door latch extremely tight, requiring force to turn and release...
Awooo, awooo!
With a whoosh, the small door was slammed open, and in a space that normally only one person could pass at a time, four zombies squeezed in simultaneously.
"Kill, do it!"
Thud, splat, bang, slash...
A fierce flurry, the four zombies who toppled to the ground had absolutely no chance to fight back, killed on the spot.
Shen Linrui became a captain, even if it’s just a reconnaissance team, he’s not ordinary. His Tang Blade was exceptionally sharp, and the zombies had little resistance under his slashes. Yuan Huotu, a farmer by background, had quite some strength. His weapon was a Long-Handled Hammer, with a small flower-bud-sized hammerhead, seemingly delicate but very powerful when smashing zombies.
The Yama Corps needed no further explanation. After Lu Yubo practiced Ju’s Martial Arts, his skills significantly improved, his stabs more precise, and his strength greater. Duan Wuhu, who went to Mountain and Sea as the "brain," was actually the weakest among the four.
He had trained at the camp, but lacked combat experience, mostly staying at the level from his days with the Survivor Alliance months ago. His only interaction with enhanced zombies was when he once drove into them.
Regardless, they swiftly dealt with the four zombies. But if they only cared about the four zombies on the ground, someone was bound to suffer!
Following the four zombies, two more squeezed through the small door, with hardly four or five seconds between them. Zhou Haiquan, holding the door, sensed the crisis and used one hand to thrust his Steel Spear at the incoming zombies to help neutralize half the danger.
At the same time, Lu Yubo, who killed zombies the fastest, reached out with a food sampler and swiftly took down the zombie lunging at Duan Wuhu.
"Thanks!"
Seeing the zombie fall before him, Duan Wuhu’s heart thudded.
It proved his plan was imperfect, since the battle he envisioned was "turn-based." After killing the first wave of zombies, there should be a buffer to pile the zombie bodies as barriers. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as expected.
Forget the buffer; if not for Lu Yubo’s rich combat experience and Zhou Haiquan’s assistance, there would have been trouble already!
Wu Lue wasn’t idly watching. Seeing the emergency, he quickly crouched down and dragged the zombie bodies to the rear. Though they couldn’t form a barrier, at least they wouldn’t trip their own people and hinder their performance.
After several enhancements, zombies now showed significant improvement in strength, speed, agility, and combat instincts. If it were before, zombies pounding on the iron door would need time to discover the small door, but now they queue up to squeeze in!
Awooo, awrooo!
The zombies, under flashlight beams, looked extremely ferocious, with double rows of big white sharp fangs reflecting a cold gleam. Just one "kiss" and it’s instant death. Their arm swings were shadowy, less deadly than the teeth, but still not to be underestimated.
Under the zombie’s frenzied assault, the pressure on those inside the door surged sharply.
No one among them could achieve a one-hit kill. Even Lu Yubo, using the food sampler, couldn’t guarantee hitting the zombie vitals each time. His efficiency was the highest, but aside from the first two zombies, it took at least three to four moves to kill a single zombie afterward!
Next was Shen Linrui, whose offense and defense were orderly and steady, with a certain visual appeal. But his kill speed was much slower than Lu Yubo’s — basically, when two were down on that side, only one was down on his.
Yuan Huotu’s weapon looked utterly rustic, his moves were very simple smashes, but surprisingly, his kill speed wasn’t slower than Shen Linrui’s, only slower in handling sudden situations.
Duan Wuhu wasn’t lacking initially; as he engaged more, he gradually found his rhythm. However, improving to Lu Yubo’s level in a short time was pure fantasy. It was commendable that he could steadily resist without putting himself in danger — he was barely managing!
"Hey brother, come help, the villagers are fierce!"
Duan Wuhu took a moment to yell to the wall edge. He didn’t directly call out to Zhao Dezhu, because if the mystery man didn’t help, Zhao Dezhu had to watch him...
"Ah, sigh..."
The mystery man didn’t hesitate this time, grabbed a Steel Spear off the ground, and charged toward the front door with a mournful howl.
Zhao Dezhu heaved a sigh of relief and joined the combat, but most of his attention remained on the mystery man, fearing he might suddenly do something irrational.
The mystery man didn’t do as Zhao Dezhu imagined. His Steel Spear spun efficiently, thrusting, stabbing, chopping, and smashing toward the zombies. The attacks were sharp, not inferior to anyone!
However, he didn’t kill zombies; he only controlled the situation, continuously tripping zombies before him to create kill opportunities for others.
Logically, even if the mystery man didn’t kill zombies, Zhao Dezhu joining should relieve some pressure. Yet, the killing speed couldn’t catch up with zombies filling the gaps!
By coincidence, the zombies, originally crowding and squeezing at the small doorway, suddenly cleared up...
From a jam to orderly, zombies hurriedly poured into the courtyard from outside... Those inside could only fight while retreating, trading space for time.
