Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 787 - 658: How Do We Divide It?
The unfamiliar yet familiar scenery swept past on both sides as the car continued forward, the cityscape of Mountain and Sea District already faintly visible.
Some iconic suburban buildings had collapsed; the giant chimney of the Thermal Power Corporation, which used to stand over a hundred meters tall like a sentinel providing warmth to the city’s people through winter, was now reduced to a stubborn base.
A nameless factory had lost its walls, the factory building was in ruins, the colorful steel roof flown hundreds of meters into the fields, the machine tool production line was a complete mess...
Shen Linrui didn’t dare to press the accelerator hard; he had never felt so heavy-hearted on his return to the Mountain and Sea District. Although not a native of this place, he spent the most unforgettable months of his life here and had come to consider it his new home because he might never be able to return to his hometown for the rest of his life!
But now this new home is destroyed too!
No matter how slow the car is, the moment of entering the city will eventually come...
The situation in the city was dire, with innumerable collapsed houses, debris and rubble everywhere, vehicles trudging hard, threading through the ruins, ever ready to be blocked by huge debris in the way.
"Damn, it’s like being ploughed ten times by bombers, had this disaster not broken out, what would have happened?"
Zhao Dezhu, one of the two not driving, expressed his amazement as he sat in Lu Yubo’s car.
Don’t take it seriously when he’s always clamoring to drive on Celestial Horse Island; that’s because someone else would handle any problem. He wouldn’t touch the steering wheel during outside missions unless absolutely necessary!
"I think we can head back already; it’s just four or five kilometers from Dragon Head Camp, but with things looking like this, what more could there be at Dragon Head Camp!"
Lu Yubo was driving shakily, his body oscillating up and down with the bumps.
"Brother Xiaolu, did you forget our main mission this trip? Dragon Head Camp must be gone, but damn it, the zombie horde is still there!"
Zhao Dezhu gripped the handle on the car window tightly, feeling like the porridge he had for breakfast was about to come up, the burp would taste of pickles.
"Forgot about that, hey, damn..."
With one lapse, almost crashed into a piece of rebar protruding from the concrete.
"Something’s blocking the way, guys, give me a hand!"
Zhao Dezhu jumped from the car upon the ruins, waving to the vehicles behind.
Though only four or five kilometers remained, who knew how long the journey would take to complete...
Ten people in Mountain and Sea District were struggling towards Dragon Head Camp, while on Celestial Horse Island, Zhang Su was huddled with Ding Yong Country in the blacksmith shop, studying novel materials.
"Boss Zhang, these bones... I’m stumped too, see they won’t burn, can’t be smashed, spent ages on them just to get a mark, how to process?"
Ding Yong Country held a segment of bone, deeply troubled.
Zhang Su scratched his head, saying helplessly, "That’s not my problem; you’re the master here, surely there’s a way. Such great material, you haven’t seen anything like this in your lifetime, you need to face challenges head-on and push the limits!"
"I..."
Ding Yong Country clanked the bone on the anvil repeatedly, suddenly brows unfurrowed, pointing to the delivery truck: "Try heating it with that!"
Seeing Chen Hanzhou approaching Cui Leng Pavilion not far away, Zhang Su said, "I’ve arranged a meeting, Old Ding, you study it first, I’ll help you when I’m free!"
"Damn..." Ding Yong Country looked at Zhang Su’s departing figure, muttering: "Help me, clearly it’s you wanting to forge weapons!"
Zhang Su really didn’t have the time for these matters, a conflicted meeting awaited his chairmanship.
Inside a lab at Cui Leng Pavilion, Fu Weijun was in a wheelchair, Qiu Hui sat on a bed, while Chen Hanzhou stood leaning against the lab bed, all eyes unerringly focusing on Zhang Su pacing in the center of the room.
"I called you three here today to decide on something, something significant for you all!"
Zhang Su stopped in his tracks, his gaze swept across their faces; Fu Weijun’s eyes held anticipation and urgency, Qiu Hui looked bewildered, while Chen Hanzhou displayed faint shock. Although the youngest, he was remarkably steady.
Fu Weijun was hopeful because he already guessed Zhang Su’s reason for assembling them, anxious since there’s three of them!
Qiu Hui was entirely clueless, not understanding why she would be seated there.
Trying to connect the other two with himself, Chen Hanzhou found little commonality apart from their physical disabilities, it led him to a bold hypothesis, linking to Liu Tianji and Ke Zhiyu’s prior fate, making his heart burn with anticipation.
Their expressions duly fell under Zhang Su’s notice. He still wore his sunglasses, shunning thoughts of using emotional manipulation on the trio.
Silence descended, the trio didn’t speak, waiting intently.
Zhang Su reached into his pocket, took out a pouch sealed, inside lay two slightly larger than peanuts light-golden matter.
"This is a substance discovered by Dr. Fu that can regenerate limbs..."
"Ah? This..."
Qiu Hui’s expression shifted from bewilderment to astonishment, she stood stably on the ground even on one leg, eyes radiating desire.
Chen Hanzhou wasn’t as excited as Qiu Hui since he had predicted it but couldn’t suppress his heart racing; he took a deep breath trying to contain his emotions.
"Qiu Hui, calm down." Zhang Su gestured with his hand for Qiu Hui to sit, then spoke to the group, "Having you three gathered here today is to discuss the distribution of the medication!"
"You’ve seen there are only two, continuing to split further would not guarantee effectiveness..."
"Mr. Zhang, may I say something?"
Fu Weijun raised his hand slightly, seeing Zhang Su nod, continued: "Actually, even at the current size and specification, it can’t guarantee effectiveness... because the previous two test subjects only lost a part of their palm, no more than twenty percent of a whole arm. Among us three, only Chen Hanzhou resembles the test subjects closely!"
Initially hesitant to reveal, Fu Weijun couldn’t help feeling untrue to scientific integrity. Even if it cost him the opportunity, he decided to disclose this.
Zhang Su looked at Fu Weijun, both met eyes, nodding slightly.
"Let’s not worry about failure, just envision potential success. Now, the issue right here, three people, how to distribute?"
Zhang Su posed the problem.
Chen Hanzhou shrugged, smiled, "Brother Su, it’s your call, I’m fine with anything."
Though his words were casual, his heart was undoubtedly yearning, no one could remain truly indifferent to such a matter.
"If I wanted to decide for myself, why call you over? From a personal perspective, Chen Hanzhou has been a long-standing figure at the camp; we fought our way from the city center, whereas Dr. Fu’s contributions to the camp are immense - healing medicine, bulletproof vest, grape bomb, all his...
Not mentioning furthering scientific results, at least discoveries! Qiu Hui is also a pivotal member! Damn it, I don’t want to waste my brain cells, always being the bad guy, this time think for yourselves!"
Qiu Hui blinked in confusion, pointed at her nose, laughing wryly, "Brother Zhang, firstly I’m very positive, confident in self sustainment, not becoming a burden to the camp, but why... what qualifies me as crucial?"
To Qiu Hui, she couldn’t fathom comparing to the two guys beside her, yet the reality was she was considered too, pleasantly surprised beyond measure.
Though similarly puzzled, Chen Hanzhou didn’t express or inquire further, one surprising fact was Qiu Hui was unaware herself.
Bluntly, Zhang Su stated, "Didn’t I mention last time? You think it’s joking? Apparently, you haven’t realized the exceptional skill of freely traversing amidst the zombies!"
"Oh?"
Chen Hanzhou exclaimed, his gaze dramatically directed at Qiu Hui.
From the outbreak till now, people have been trying to evade zombie detection, coating themselves in zombie blood and flesh was elementary; they had donned petrified zombie skins yet ineffective, including electromagnetic shielding, they resorted to enclosing in lead shells!
Wasn’t it astounding that a person unnoticed by zombies was finally found and right beside!
