Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 790: Bored Out of My Mind Day After Day
“Xiaochen, have you made up your mind? Are you really letting Sister Qiu go first?”
Zhang Su let Fu Weijun celebrate giddily on the side, as he turned his gaze to Chen Hanzhou’s face.
“Brother Su, a man of promise keeps his word. I said I’d let Sister Qiu have it, and I won’t regret it!”
Chen Hanzhou appeared very generous and resolute. He had several layers of considerations, which were inconvenient to disclose, but overall, this decision maximized the benefits.
Zhang Su gave Chen Hanzhou a somewhat meaningful look, then said to Qiu Hui, “Come on, Qiu Hui, since Xiaochen is willing to let you go first, don’t refuse! But let me say this up front, once you swallow this golden pill, you’ll become a member of the Yama Corps, and you cannot betray us, understand?”
“Ah? I’m… I’m a member of the Yama Corps now? That’s way too easy!”
Qiu Hui was in disbelief as she pointed at her nose, utterly shocked.
The women in the Reserve Team often fantasized about one day joining the imposing ranks of the Yama Corps, but everyone knew it was extremely difficult, and it was nothing more than a daydream—never expecting it to become reality.
“Easy?”
Zhang Su adjusted his frog-eye sunglasses, curling his lips into a smile, “Do you know how many times you’ve walked past the Ghost Gate? Easy… Do you realize how many brothers we lost the day you were bitten?”
In the afternoon of the third zombie enhancement, in the Lego Mall, many people couldn’t inject the Corpse Transformation Inhibitor in time and died with regret.
Even those who held on until Celestial Horse Island and injected the Corpse Transformation Inhibitor—more than half of them still died!
After hearing what Zhang Su said, Qiu Hui realized how lucky she was—not only did she survive, but she inexplicably gained an ability. It could be said that even the heavens favored her!
“It’s really not easy. I often said I wasn’t very smart, thinking things were simpler than they were. I’m sorry, Brother Zhang…”
Qiu Hui suddenly felt the burden on her shoulders. The women in the Reserve Team only thought of how cool it would be to join the Yama Corps, but they never seemed to consider the responsibilities they would bear upon joining!
“Everyone has their own destiny; try to keep it in your own hands! Go ahead and eat… Oh, by the way, you might have a severe reaction after eating it, so we’ll step out for a bit. If anything happens, just call our names!”
After Zhang Su spoke, Chen Hanzhou, being very perceptive, opened the door and moved out with Fu Weijun.
After all, she is a woman, and if she starts twisting on the ground like a beautiful snake, it would be somewhat awkward.
Upon closing the door, the three didn’t go far, waiting outside the lab door. In less than two minutes, heart-wrenching screams could be heard from inside…
Upon hearing the painful screams, Chen Hanzhou’s expression turned peculiar, “Dr. Fu, what other sensations are there besides heat? It sounds like Sister Qiu is suffering as if being flayed alive.”
Fu Weijun had calmed down from his initial excitement. Rubbing his leg meridians, he said, “Heat is just the basic sensation. It feels like countless needles are poking at the affected area, leaving a tingling numbness that’s hard to bear. Each person is different; Liu Tianji once said it felt like his hands were being chopped or his flesh sliced. Ke Zhiyu’s reaction was much lighter—maybe his endurance surpassed the average person.”
While the two chatted, Zhang Su peered out the window and saw Wang Zhetao talking to Mo Qianlan. Though the distance and noisy environment made it hard to hear, he could discern their demeanor.
Mo Qianlan was preparing to work on the farm, whereas Wang Zhetao was clearly pestering her about something, talking with eagerness, while she intended to avoid the conversation with no interest at all.
“Being bored all day, damn it!”
“Huh? Brother Su, you’re not referring to me, right…”
Chen Hanzhou was puzzled by Zhang Su’s muttering.
Fu Weijun awkwardly chimed in, “Mr. Zhang might be referring to me. I haven’t done anything these past few days…”
“I didn’t mean either of you two. It’s another annoying guy!”
Zhang Su pinched the bridge of his nose. The aftermath tasks were ongoing but nearing their end. He planned to announce the test results later this afternoon, getting all the combat personnel busy!
“Uh… Mr. Zhang, is there anything I could help with?”
Xie Yanshan, disturbed by the cries, walked out from another room, inquiring with concern while nodding amicably at Fu Weijun and Chen Hanzhou.
“Nothing, Dr. Xie, keep at it.”
Zhang Su shook his head slightly.
“Hmm? It’s been quiet for a while now; I’ll go check!”
Chen Hanzhou approached the door and knocked, asking, “Sister Qiu, are you okay?”
“You… you can come in now.”
The hesitant tone slightly furrowed the brows of the three outside.
Zhang Su pushed open the door and, seeing inside, wore an odd smile on his face.
“Oh… well, congratulations to Sister Qiu for recovering!”
Chen Hanzhou pushed Fu Weijun back into the lab, momentarily dazed by the sight of the snow-white leg.
Typically, a person missing a leg would tie off the empty pant leg, but Qiu Hui found it inconvenient and awkward, so she trimmed it according to the length of her remaining leg. Now the whole leg had regenerated as good as new, naturally leaving her pants too short.
The new leg was soft, supple, and fair—a sign of its newness, with a barefoot touch on the ground, exuding a bit of sensuality and aesthetic beauty.
“You’ve scored big, Qiu Hui. This leg looks ten years younger!”
Zhang Su teased with a laugh.
“I was never this fair, even in my youth. It’s such a delightful surprise!”
Initially a little embarrassed, Qiu Hui felt relieved after hearing Zhang Su and Chen Hanzhou’s congratulations, leaving only emotion and gratitude.
“I’m really envious—you can actually use limb regeneration. Not only does it look beautiful, but it’s filled with power, really enviable.”
Still sitting in his wheelchair, Fu Weijun wore a self-pitying smile. Though his own recovery was coming along, some of his side effects remained and would take time to heal.
“Dr. Fu, you’ll get better. Exercise more, and you’ll recover quickly. I’ll go find some pants. Brother Zhang, is the Yama Corps training in the ravine this afternoon?”
Flaunting her big white leg, Qiu Hui seemed more optimistic and confident than before. Although her looks were average, the confidence beaming from her face made her appear more attractive.
“It’ll be a bit late today, around two o’clock.” Seeing Qiu Hui in great condition, Zhang Su replied with a smile and, recalling something, reminded her, “Your change is too drastic—don’t wander around the camp just yet. Stay at Cui Leng Pavilion, and remember to take your medication on time!”
“Alright, I get it… I won’t forget the meds; I always have painkillers on me.”
Delighted, Qiu Hui retrieved a pack of painkillers from her pocket.
The numbness in her body was now under control, not affecting her movements, but the headache couldn’t be permanently cured. If it exceeded the threshold, there was a risk of corpse transformation. Fortunately, medication could prevent it, making it a decent outcome.
“Alright, everything’s settled. Xiaochen, help call Zuo Fengjuan to escort Dr. Fu back.”
With matters resolved, Fu Weijun was to leave Cui Lengxuan. The Golden Thalamus would be administered, but the punishment was still not over and had to continue.
“Hold on!”
Fu Weijun stopped Chen Hanzhou with excitement, full of curiosity, “Could you both tell me what ‘Number One’ is now?”
“Let me think… counting today, your punishment ends in six days. Why ask so much, Number One is just the first day of every month, the day before Number Two!”
Zhang Su replied quite dismissively.
Fu Weijun’s mouth twitched, clearly dissatisfied with the answer, but there was nothing he could do. Reluctantly, he left the lab…
