Chapter 1884 - 1006: Airplane Found! (Part 3)

  • Next Chapter

An airplane seems to have crashed during takeoff, hitting the wall surrounding the airport, creating a huge hole.

Two other planes crashed directly into that building, probably causing an explosion that blew off a small part of the structure.

Another airplane capsized, one of its wings was broken. From their angle, the remaining two large passenger planes didn’t seem severely damaged, but they weren’t sure about the interior.

Inside the airport, some zombies were roaming around.

In such intense solar radiation, the only zombies that could come out were nuclear radiation zombies.

The helicopter slowly approached, but everyone inside looked concerned.

"Captain, Ant, this seems to be a civilian airport, right? Are we sure this is the place?" Old Qin asked hesitantly.

During Doomsday, large passenger planes were not really suitable for use because, firstly, they consumed a lot of fuel—more than 200 tons to fully refuel a single large passenger plane.

Secondly, large passenger planes required an airport to land, otherwise, they couldn’t stop. Regular runways needed to be 2500 meters to 4000 meters, which seemed impossible during Doomsday.

Even the Big Camphor Tree Base did not meet these conditions.

Due to runway restrictions, you could only travel from one airport to another, requiring clearing the zombies from both sides first. An airport was so large that it was not easy to defend.

The flexibility was too poor.

Near the Big Camphor Tree Base, there is only one airport in Gan City, which is still more than an hour’s drive away, not close.

Moreover, airplanes have far more parts than helicopters, making maintenance extremely complex, requiring significant manpower and resources that the current Big Camphor Tree Base could barely sustain.

So, in terms of flexibility and cost-efficiency, helicopters were more suitable than civilian passenger planes during Doomsday.

If it were small passenger planes, that would be better, but unfortunately, these are large passenger planes, including a C919.

Such a pity.

After hearing Old Qin’s question, Third Uncle sighed, feeling a sense of regret.

He then said to Old Qin, "This probably isn’t the place, this is just a regular civilian airport, and the place Xiao Yu mentioned should be the Triangular Armed Helicopter Base."

Ant seemed to remember something and quickly said:

"Yes, yes, I remember now, the one to the north is a civilian airport. The one the captain mentioned should be to the south, at Dayong Town. Let’s fly south to check it out."

Old Qin breathed a sigh of relief, thinking the trip might have been for nothing.

He then picked up the walkie-talkie to contact Li Yu on the other helicopter.

"Jackals, Jackals, calling Jackals."

"Received, please proceed."

"Do not land, the one ahead is Central City’s civilian airport. We need to head to the Triangular Armed Helicopter Base to the south. I’m going to turn to the right, please maintain a safe distance behind me."

After hearing this, Jackals quickly responded, "Received, I thought something felt off."

He then put down the walkie-talkie and said to Li Yu behind him:

"City Lord, the place ahead isn’t where we need to go, it’s just a regular airport. We are going to check the south side now; Ant said the Triangular Armed Helicopter Base is over there."

Li Yu relaxed after hearing Jackals’ words.

He nodded and said, "Okay, got it, let’s follow them."

.....

It took about ten minutes of flying south, and they were at the edge of Central City.

Originally, Dayong Town was in the suburbs of Central City, and the southern side’s Triangular Flight Base was on the outskirts of Dayong Town.

Ant looked at the map in his hand, comparing it with the terrain below, his mind racing, trying to recall past memories.

This area had lots of trees, and Ant wondered if he was remembering incorrectly.

Third Uncle took the map from Ant and pointed to a spot south of Dayong Town, asking: "Are we here?"

Ant nodded, "Yes, we should be here now; you see that pavilion on the mountain, it used to be a tourist spot."

"Then it should be right, keep looking." Third Uncle has seen military maps before, so he knew the Triangular Flight Base must be here.

They flew in a circle, thinking they wouldn’t find it.

Suddenly.

Old Qin noticed a large area of shrubbery in the forest below, amidst the shrubs there was a building. The building was "L"-shaped, with several helicopters parked on top.

"Is it over there!?" Old Qin excitedly said to Third Uncle and the others behind him.

Third Uncle picked up the telescope and saw that there were indeed three helicopters on the roof, quickly saying, "That should be it, let’s go over and take a look, don’t rush to land, hover above for a while."

Old Qin piloted the helicopter over.

As they got closer, the situation became clearer.

This was the place!

The original Triangular Flight Base was located in a forest, with a large grassland.

But after the zombie outbreak, these grasslands, due to the lack of maintenance and trimming, have grown not only shrubs but also small trees in three years.

If it weren’t for Old Qin’s keen sight, noticing that the shrubs were noticeably shorter than the surrounding forest, they wouldn’t have found this place.

During Doomsday, despite several natural disasters, without human overexploitation, plants grew rapidly, and ferns on walls flourished rampantly.

They hovered above the Triangular Flight Base.

They could clearly see the situation below.

In the center of about fifty acres of shrubs, there was a building, or more accurately, two buildings connected into a long structure.

In front of the building was an area of concrete ground, with two helicopters parked on it. Weeds grew on the concrete, making the surface dark and uneven.

The concrete ground occupied about a dozen acres, and the two isolated helicopters looked pitiful.

"This is the place!" Old Qin shouted excitedly to Third Uncle behind him upon seeing the situation below.

"Quickly get Xiao Yu and the others over here, tell them to stop searching," Third Uncle said.

They had separated previously to improve search efficiency.

Unexpectedly, shortly after splitting up, they found it.

"Alright."

"Jackals, Jackals, come over quickly, we’ve found the helicopters!" Old Qin said with a smile, the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes showing.
