Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 881 - 497: Remnants of the Long Night (Part 6)_2

"Immediately set off and head to the Wind Snow Zone!"

...

Wind Snow Zone, Changbai Pharmaceutical.

At the high-level meeting, someone questioned, "Without the train conductor, why should we spend a hefty price maintaining a relationship with the train?"

Someone immediately countered, "What if the train conductor returns?"

Everyone present fell silent instantly.

The meeting quickly reached a consensus that not only should they avoid kicking someone while they’re down, but they should also maintain a good relationship with the train. If necessary, they could help the train fight a Pale War.

Other forces made similar decisions, although they weren’t too hopeful about the train conductor’s return during the Eternal Night.

But deep down, everyone subconsciously hopes that Su Huan will bring back that secret.

...

In the Eternal Night, there’s almost no concept of time. If it weren’t for the presence of some old buildings, Su Huan wouldn’t be sure if he was moving forward.

He had already walked 80 kilometers, passing several villages, a small town, and a military compound.

Vehicles piled up on the roads, with shattered glass from malls, heaps of fashionable clothes waiting for customers to pick them. Restaurant tables and chairs were in disarray, and the kitchen seemed to have been rummaged by some animal, leaving refrigerators and cold storage in a state of chaos. However, most buildings showed little change, maintaining the appearance they had when the apocalypse struck a year ago.

The military compound was relatively clean, with no signs of battle but also no useful supplies or information.

The compound was directly set up in the town, seemingly established after the Eternal Night descended. Otherwise, the military and civilian areas couldn’t overlap like this. But as the Eternal Night continued, food shortages or impending dangers drove people away, leaving only remnants of habitable sites.

Although it was out of the Wind Snow Zone, it was still very cold, maintaining around minus thirty degrees.

There was no sunlight, not even ground heat reflection; the abnormal environment was sustained purely by the Rule.

After a brief observation, Su Huan continued northward. Though his pace was slow, he could move non-stop for 24 hours. Along the way, he saw more traces of human activity but didn’t encounter any undead beings.

"[White Bear language] I think I heard a sound."

"Was it an Evolution Beast or...?"

"Uncertain, just for a moment, like the sound of fabric rubbing."

Not far from the concrete road’s corner, Su Huan looked at his pants. These were some of the only clothes he had left. Because it wasn’t cold, he hadn’t thought of finding a shirt. Going out like this in minus thirty degrees might give them a psychological shock, right?

Before Su Huan could decide whether to grab a piece of clothing from the nearby building, footsteps sounded ahead, faster than them—a beam of light.

The train conductor didn’t like having a flashlight shone in his face. His eyes narrowed slightly, and the light source in the other’s hand scattered instantly, refracting in a kaleidoscopic manner. Every beam of light started to undergo complex refraction and intercalation, illuminating a ten-meter radius.

There were six Northern Alliance people in total, with pale skin and dark eye rims, wearing gray battle attire, carrying a colorful assortment of backpacks. However, their simplified military insignia confirmed their identity as regular troops of the Northern Alliance.

Whether they were Mao Bear or White Bear wasn’t clear, but at this moment, the six were squinting and yelling in terror.

"[White Bear language] Damn, there’s a person!"

"What person? This isn’t a person! It’s not human!"

"Open fire! Open fire!"

With a speechless look, Su Huan watched bullets line up like little stones in front of him, but this scene only frightened the White Bears further. After Su Huan jammed their triggers, they desperately pulled out their grenades.

Without wasting words, Su Huan released a wisp of aura, pressing them all to the ground.

These soldiers hadn’t evolved much. The strongest was merely a Tier One, and the rest were just newly awakened. They were no different from ants before a Tier Four train conductor.

Once everyone was subdued, Su Huan walked up to a White Bear, kicked him face-up, and examined the rank closely. Because it was simplified, he wasn’t sure of the other’s specific rank, so he could only ask in broken Mao Bear language, "You, know, Donghuang language?"

The heart of the White Bear on the ground was pounding, thinking he was about to be eaten by an Evil Anomaly. But then he unexpectedly heard his familiar native language. Though it had a bit of the Mao Bear accent, the joy of escaping death instantly filled his chest.

He excitedly babbled a string of words.

"[White Bear language] Man, are you alive?"

Seeing Su Huan’s furrowed brow and obvious Donghuang appearance, he knew the other might not understand. He immediately switched languages, "[Northern Alliance Common Language] Which Donghuang unit are you from, and why are you in our territory?"

He watched as Su Huan repeated that odd Mao Bear language.

"[Mao Bear language] I don’t speak Donghuang. None of us do. The only one who did is dead."

Then he shook his head vigorously.

From the other’s clumsy gestures, Su Huan barely made out his meaning. There were people who used to know, but now there were none, which made him sigh in frustration.

After wasting half a day, not one useful message was conveyed?

"[Donghuang language] Get up."

Seeing the White Bears lying on the ground without moving, Su Huan expressed himself through gestures.

Only then did the six White Bears stand up. They carefully observed Su Huan for a long time, although surprised, they accepted he was human and tried hard to share food with him.

Though puzzled, Su Huan took a small bite of a biscuit.

He noticed that after he ate, the six people visibly sighed with relief.

The White Bears cleaned up the battlefield, turned off their flashlights, and the world plunged into darkness again. In their shocked gazes, Su Huan casually lit several light spheres, illuminating the concrete road with every detail. Some White Bears even shed tears of emotion.

Under the light spheres, the train conductor began gesturing communication with the White Bears again.

"[Donghuang language] Do you know where the Donghuang people’s base is?"

Su Huan spoke while making walking gestures and clasped his hands together.

"[White Bear language] Are you asking... round, what’s that, a pot?"

The latter guessed earnestly.

"[Donghuang language] Donghuang people!"

Su Huan felt like he might be grasping a clue, pointed to himself, then gave a thumbs-up.

"[White Bear language] People? You want women, big women?"

Encouraged, the latter boldly guessed, drawing a very large circle with his hands and showing a "I understand" smile.

Su Huan assumed he was describing a large military camp and nodded in satisfaction, patting the other’s shoulder.

"[Donghuang language] If you can find Donghuang soldiers, I can grant you one wish."

The other’s expression changed subtly, stammering, "[White Bear language] Men, will men do?"

The other five White Bears instinctively clenched their pants.

The group huddled to murmur among themselves, then headed east with Su Huan.

...

Half an hour later, Su Huan looked at the White Bear camp of over thirty people in front of him, as well as the seductive White Bear female soldiers, and sighed softly.

It really was a misunderstanding.

At least it’s a military camp, though.

After some more gesturing, the White Bears brought Su Huan to another White Bear. The latter greeted Su Huan with great enthusiasm, his eyes almost shining.

Five minutes later, the train conductor walked out of the military camp, feeling exasperated, with two White Bears being suspended behind him.

He didn’t intend to waste any more time here; the language barrier was just too troublesome.

Since there were people here, it meant the location of other units couldn’t be far. Maybe a little more walking would get him there.

Before setting off, the train conductor found a reasonably fitting outfit, then launched "Pan-energy Perception", venturing north.

The information from "Pan-energy Perception" was too vague, but with Su Huan’s rich experience, capturing only two nests of Evolution Beasts brought back feedback from living people.
