Arrival in an isekai

Chapter 133: Charlotte’s exchange.

You continue observing through the scrying window as Charlotte's emotional state shifts. The young woman sinks back into her chair, tears still streaming down her face, but the wild panic fades into something bleaker. She stares at her father with hollow recognition.

"So that's it then," Charlotte says quietly. "I'm French property being transferred to someone else. All those speeches about liberty and citizenship, and I'm just another asset to be traded."

Charles opens his mouth, closes it again. His diplomatic mask cracks around the edges. "Charlotte, I truly believe this arrangement offers you opportunities far beyond anything France could provide. This person's capabilities are extraordinary."

"You don't even know who they are," Charlotte says flatly. "You saw a demonstration of power and decided that was enough reason to erase my entire legal existence. Did you negotiate for my safety? My rights? Anything beyond the technology exchange?"

"The representative assured me you would be treated well," Charles says, but his voice wavers. "That you would have status, protection, education."

"The representative," Charlotte repeats. "Not the person themselves. You're handing me to someone you've never met based on the word of their servant." She wipes her eyes roughly. "At least be honest about what this is, Papa. You chose France over your daughter. Just admit it."

Charles sags in his chair, suddenly looking far older than his years. "I chose the only option that kept you alive. If I had refused, if I had tried to protect you from someone with that kind of power, what do you think would have happened?"

Charlotte stares at him for several long seconds. "I don't know. I'll never know, will I? Because you decided for me."

You dismiss the scrying window and step through the portal into the IS world. The transition is seamless, magical energies responding instantly to your will. You teleport directly to Grayfia's position on the third floor.

The devil maid stands near a window overlooking the facility grounds, reviewing a stack of transfer documents with characteristic precision. She turns at your arrival, surprise flickering across her composed features before she immediately drops into a respectful bow.

"My Lord, I did not expect you for another seventeen minutes," Grayfia says, straightening. "The scheduled exchange time is sunset."

You step forward and kiss her gently. Grayfia stills for a moment, then responds with carefully controlled warmth, her lips soft against yours. When you pull back, her silver eyes search your face with professional concern mixed with genuine affection.

"Has something changed with the arrangement?" she asks quietly.

"No," you answer. "I simply wanted to kiss you."

Grayfia's expression softens fractionally and reaches up to adjust her maid headpiece. "I've reviewed Charlotte's documentation is complete. All transfer protocols are prepared. Charlotte Dunois was unaware before being invited to her father's office, she is likely being informed last minute. Albert Dunois's military forces maintain their positions, still planning their intervention and theft."

You pull Grayfia into another kiss, slower this time, savoring the softness of her lips and the way she melts into your touch despite her professional composure. When you finally release her, she maintains perfect posture while following a half-step behind as you exit the office.

The corridor stretches before you with sterile white walls and fluorescent lighting. You pause at the first piece of wall art, a forgettable abstract print in a cheap frame, studying it with exaggerated interest. Through the building's security system, you can sense the military teams' confusion radiating through their radio chatter and expand your hearing.

"Subject has exited third-floor office," a voice crackles through hidden speakers. "No visible security. No weapons. Just him and the woman from the initial contact."

"Maintain position," Albert's voice responds tightly. "Do not engage until he produces the data crystals."

You move to a window overlooking the facility courtyard, performing an elaborate double-take at the perfectly ordinary view of manicured lawns and parking structures. Grayfia stands beside you, hands folded, silver hair catching the afternoon light filtering through the glass.

"Third floor, west corridor," another voice reports. "He's stalling. Just looking around like he's on a damn museum tour."

"Hold your positions," Albert snaps.

You continue your leisurely stroll toward the elevator bank. On the fourth floor, Charles stands frozen in his office doorway as you pass the security camera feed. Charlotte moves beside her father, both watching the monitor showing your unhurried progress.

"That's him?" Charlotte whispers, voice barely audible through the surveillance pickup. "That's the person you're giving me to?"

Charles nods mutely, unable to look away from the screen showing your casual confidence.

The elevator ride takes you to the second floor. You examine the generic corporate landscape paintings lining the walls while Albert's forces shift nervously in their concealed positions. Twenty-three soldiers remain motionless, watching your relaxed approach through their tactical scopes.

"He has to be carrying the crystals," a team leader mutters. "There's nowhere else they could be."

"Wait for confirmation," Albert orders, tension evident in his clipped syllables.

The exchange room door stands open ahead. You check an unremarkable potted plant beside the entrance with theatrical interest before glancing at your internal chronometer. Exactly sunset. Perfect timing.

You enter the room and take your seat at the prepared table. Grayfia moves to stand behind and slightly to your right, the perfect image of devoted service. The room contains neutral furniture, recording equipment, and Charles's prepared documentation spread across the polished surface.

Charles enters first, followed by Charlotte. The young woman's eyes are red from crying, but she holds herself with rigid dignity as she takes in your appearance for the first time. Her gaze shifts to Grayfia, noting the devil maid's positioning and impeccable bearing.

You appraise Charlotte slowly, your gaze traveling over her modest formal attire and tear-stained face. She shifts uncomfortably under your scrutiny while Charles stands rigidly beside her.

"Remove your shirt and skirt," you say calmly to Charlotte. "Then sit on my lap."

Charles's diplomatic composure shatters. "Absolutely not! I will not allow you to humiliate my daughter during a formal custody transfer. This arrangement does not include subjecting her to indecent exposure before witnesses!"

You raise one hand slightly, still watching Charlotte. "You have set the stage, Charles. Now it is Charlotte's turn to make her choices."

The words cut through Charlotte's mounting panic like a blade. She stares at you, then at her father, then back to you again. Something in your phrasing, some implication that she possesses actual agency here, penetrates her despair.

Her hands move to her blouse buttons. Slowly, mechanically, she unfastens each one while Charles watches in horrified silence. The white fabric slides from her shoulders, revealing a simple cotton bra underneath. She folds the blouse with trembling precision, setting it on the table beside the stack of legal documents.

The skirt follows. Charlotte's fingers fumble with the side zipper before the navy fabric pools around her ankles. She steps out carefully, folding it with the same mechanical deliberation. Now she stands in only her undergarments and low heels, goosebumps rising on her exposed skin.

She approaches your chair. You watch her struggle with the physical mechanics of positioning herself before finally settling sideways across your lap, her weight slight and tense. The warmth of her thighs radiates through the thin cotton of her panties.

"Turn your head," you say quietly. "Appraise Grayfia as a woman."

Charlotte's gaze shifts to the devil maid standing behind you. Her blue eyes trace Grayfia's perfect posture, the elegant lines of her uniform, the composed beauty of her features.

"You had a conversation with your father moments ago," you continue. "You asked what would happen if you simply walked out. Your father stated fear of what I might do." You pause, letting the words settle. "I might be sad to be rejected, but I will not pursue you in any further way. France's government, however, would be very upset that you, a single young woman, refused to sacrifice herself for their technological advancement. They would likely bother you at every chance in the coming years."

Charlotte's breathing quickens as the implications penetrate her shock.

"The choice is still there," you say. "You can stand up, take your clothes and legal documents, and walk out. Or you can take my hands and place them on yourself while I explain a few other choices. Not all of them, mind you. Just the obvious big ones."

She remains frozen for nearly a full minute, her mind visibly processing the trap her father has constructed versus the escape route you are offering. Then, with growing confidence, Charlotte reaches for your wrists. She guides your hands to her waist, pressing your palms against the bare skin just above her panty line.

The moment your hands touch her, she feels the hard edges of data storage devices pressed against your palms, held by your pinkies while your other fingers spread across her flesh. She says nothing, but her eyes widen fractionally.

"The paperwork on the table is your legal documentation," you explain, your thumbs moving in small circles against her skin. "But legal documentation depends on coordination between organizations. Taking it with us to another world gives it a fake value. I offered to trade the technology of a different world for you. I did not specify which world or technology."

You squeeze your left hand gently, the data crystal pressing more firmly against her side. "The first world's technology I possess comes from a realm of advanced concepts and warfare, but requires a unique power source only available to that world. It qualifies for the exchange but cannot be replicated here. Like your documentation, it is a false value."

Charles has gone absolutely white.

"The second world's technology," you continue, squeezing your right hand, "is what they are truly after. Fusion generation, space travel, gene manipulation technology." You pause. "Now for your choices, You could take the first device and place it on the table before sitting back on my lap. You would give the government exactly what they accepted: an empty exchange for your life."

Charlotte's breath catches. She stares at the table, at her father, at the recording equipment capturing this entire exchange.

"We will discuss whats next after our arrival at your new home." You say softly. "Or, everybody but you gets what they want. France receives technology, I receive you willing and obedient." You lean closer to her ear. "Maybe you will go all or nothing. Give both technologies to them along with the rest of your clothing before wrapping your arms around me."

Charlotte sits very still across your lap, your hands warm against her sides, the data crystals pressed against her skin. Her father watches with dawning horror. Grayfia stands perfectly motionless behind you.

You lean forward and press your lips gently against Charlotte's bare shoulder. The kiss is soft, deliberate, carrying reassurance rather than demand. Your fingers continue their slow movement along her sides, thumbs tracing small circles above her hipbones.

"France cannot harm you for whatever you decide here," you murmur against her skin. "The choice is genuinely yours."

Charlotte's breathing steadies. She stares at the table, at the stack of documents representing her legal erasure, at the two data crystals pressed against her flesh by your hands. Her father watches with pale horror as she reaches down and carefully extracts the device from your left palm.

The false-value Code Geass crystal glints in her fingers. She turns it slowly, examining the crystalline structure catching the fluorescent lighting. Then she leans forward and places it precisely in the center of the table atop her citizenship documents.

"There," Charlotte says quietly. "An empty exchange for an empty promise. Exactly what my country deserves."

Charles opens his mouth to respond, but the exchange room doors slam open. Twenty-three soldiers burst through in coordinated tactical entry, assault rifles raised, suppression devices humming with active power. Albert Dunois follows three steps behind, triumph blazing across his features.

"Secure the subject!" Albert shouts. "Neutralize the supernatural threat before he can-"

"Mass Stun."

Your voice cuts through his order with casual authority. The words themselves carry weight that ripples through reality like stones dropped into still water.

Every soldier freezes mid-stride. Weapons stop tracking targets. Bodies lock into perfect stillness, muscles rigid, breathing halted. Eyes remain open and aware, tracking movement with growing panic as they realize they cannot move, cannot speak, cannot even blink. Their suppression devices continue their useless humming against magic they were never calibrated to handle.

Albert stands frozen three meters from the table, one arm raised in a pointing gesture, mouth open mid-command. His eyes widen as consciousness processes what just happened to his carefully positioned forces.

Grayfia steps forward from her position behind you, silver hair swaying as she surveys the frozen soldiers with professional assessment. "Twenty-three hostiles neutralized. Zero resistance detected. Shall I secure their weapons, my Lord?"

"There's no need for that, we'll be gone before it wears off."

Charlotte stares at the frozen tableau of armed soldiers, her fingers still gripping your right palm and the remaining Gundam Seed crystal. She turns her head slowly to look at you, genuine wonder breaking through her earlier resignation.

"You just... with two words..." She swallows hard. "Papa wasn't lying. About any of it."

Charles remains standing near the table, face ashen as he watches his brother frozen mid-attack. The diplomatic mask has shattered completely, revealing naked fear beneath.

The Code Geass crystal sits on the table beside Charlotte's legal documents. The Gundam Seed crystal remains pressed against her side by your fingers. She has made her choice, delivered France's betrayal back to them in crystalline form, and now sits half-naked on your lap while her uncle's military raid stands frozen as living statues throughout the exchange room.

You lean forward and capture Charlotte's lips in a soft, deliberate kiss. She freezes for half a second, then responds hesitantly, her mouth uncertain against yours. When you pull back, her blue eyes are wide and glistening with unshed tears.

"You made the right choice," you murmur. "Your father trapped you, but you punished him for it. That takes courage."

Charlotte swallows hard, her fingers still gripping your shoulder for balance. "I don't feel courageous. I feel like I just threw away my entire country."

"You threw away the false value they offered you," you correct gently. "Now, would you prefer to walk, or shall I carry you?"

She blinks at the question, glancing down at herself in only bra and panties. "You're not going to let me dress first?"

"You can dress when we arrive if you wish. The choice is yours."

After a moment's consideration, Charlotte slides off your lap and stands on unsteady legs. "I'll walk. If I'm choosing this, I should walk into it myself."

You rise smoothly, the Gundam Seed crystal vanishing from your palm as you return it to inventory. Grayfia steps forward, offering you a brief nod before turning toward the door. She moves with purpose, already coordinating mentally with Yor to conclude the extraction operation.

Charles stands frozen beside the table, watching his half-naked daughter prepare to leave with a stranger who just paralyzed twenty-three soldiers. "Charlotte, I..."

"Don't," Charlotte cuts him off sharply. "You made your choice when you erased my citizenship. I'm making mine now."

You gesture toward the air, and reality tears open with casual elegance. The portal reveals the multidimensional library's crystalline architecture beyond, infinite shelves stretching into impossible distances under sourceless light.

Charlotte's breath catches. "That's... that's actually real."

"Everything I showed your father was real," you say calmly. "Come."

She takes your offered hand, her fingers cold and trembling slightly, and steps through the portal. The sensation of crossing dimensional boundaries washes over her, making her stumble. You steady her easily as the exchange room vanishes behind you.

The library stretches endlessly in all directions. Charlotte turns slowly, taking in the impossible geometry, the floating books, the way distance seems to mean something different here.

"This way," you guide her forward toward the Dungeon Passageway. The silver-edged portal to Carne Manor shimmers ahead, bright afternoon sunlight visible through it.

Charlotte hesitates at the threshold. "What's on the other side?"

"Your new home," you answer simply.

She takes a breath, then steps through.

The manor's main hall materializes around you both. Afternoon sunlight streams through tall windows, illuminating polished wood floors and comfortable furniture. A few residents lounge in reading chairs near the hearth, absorbed in books. One looks up at your arrival, then immediately averts her eyes from Charlotte's state of undress before returning to her reading with practiced discretion.

Charlotte stands very still in only her undergarments, processing the transition from frozen French soldiers to transdimensional library to sunny manor hall. Her fingers tighten around yours.

"Where exactly am I?" she asks quietly.
