Chapter 127: Chapter 25 - Vibe Handwriting Magic Book At Night
It was getting closer to midnight. The excitement over a spicy mayonnaise sandwich had died down a bit as everyone was fast asleep. After accompanying Master Reina and Master Amagi in the library, I quickly returned to my room. Washing my sweaty body with warm water and considered it as a part of my evening bath.
The difference between the culture in my home world and the world of this novel shouldn’t be too great; this way of bathing is common in rural areas with limited access to well water or clean river sources.
I didn’t mind such a clean water source, because I could cast a spell that would create clean drinking water. A spell that should only be able to be cast by those with deep faith in the Great Goddess.
Yes, in other words, it was holy magic taught directly by the holy magic book I was speaking with. It told the story of ready-to-drink water magic, which holy people always used to quench the thirst of those who spread the teachings of the Great Goddess.
The story was so detailed that her voice sounded like white noise, easily to ignored. My hand was busy holding a quill and writing down new magic theories that came to mind. As I sat beside Master Amagi, my eyes repeatedly skimmed over the section of the magic book explaining magic affinity.
Something that should be the main foundation for novice mages in learning magic. The section that explains magic affinity in the magic book is indeed true. A mage will remain an amateur mage if they doesn’t understand their magic affinity, just like someone working on something he doesn’t experience. A farmer will work faster and more optimally when growing crops he has know how to grow. Tillage used for rotation, removing late-growing shoots before they wilt, and preventing anything bad from happening to the crops he planted. If both magic affinity and mage used such an approach in unison, then the widely circulated magic books wouldn’t be misleading each other to prioritize "What the first thing a mage should do to learn magic".
Srreeettt...
Srrreeett...
I was lost in my thoughts, writing a few frontal sentences about magic affinity and the different views in various magic books regarding the main foundation for a novice mage.
In this new Chapter in my handwriting magic book, I’m purely venting my frustrations before writing a theory for testing someone’s magic affinity. Magic elements are generally divided into four: fire, earth, water, and air. Other known elements include holy magic and dark magic. Beyond these elements lies imagination and the desire to transform them into magic.
This magic affinity test will be implemented far in the future and is currently under research. One such researcher, Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg, has realized that a person’s mana capacity isn’t the primary factor in determining whether or not they will become a great mage in the future.
She had considered several things before reaching that conclusion. A small mana capacity could be increased through magic training and a diet that promotes mana expansion. Both of these were true, as my mana capacity had increased after eating glowing sunflower seeds and undergoing intensive training.
What’s problematic for me is my slow mana regeneration. Much slower than a novice mage who has just realized their mana capacity is full and is leaking out, causing them to unconsciously cast magic.
Srreeettt...
Srreeettt...
My thoughts deepened and branched out in writing the magic affinity test, while listening to the story of the holy magic book who was so excited when she saw the Saintess in the past making rain with her divine blessing.
Writing something complicated while listening to some old stories, somehow feels fun.
Fortunately, my mother was fast asleep in bed after a long day of work. She helped some kitchen maids store the glass bottles of spicy mayonnaise in the underground food storage and wrapped up the remaining ones to give to Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld’s allies.
"Hey, did you hear what I said?" asked the holy magic book that had been telling about the piety of the saints of the past.
"I heard about it. The story about Saintess Myoko drowning a village with torrential rain for three months because the villagers were too lazy to build an irrigation canal from the river, right?" I replied as I continued writing down the basic theory of magic affinity testing.
"Y-You listened to my story up to that point? I-I thought you’d ignore my story and keep writing. I’m quite surprised that someone would listen to my story while working."
"What will people who hear your story usually do?"
"U-Usually they would fall asleep at the part where Saintess Myoko meet the lazy villagers. My story should be sounds boring. But you were strong enough to listen to my story until the end."
"To be honest, your story is too noisy and I was forced to listen to it until the end."
"Please don’t be too honest with me. It’s painful for a holy book like me to hear that."
I could have answered more honestly. The story is essentially a tale passed down from the Saintesses of the Great Goddess to the next Saintess. One of the heroines, an orphan living in an orphanage run by the high-ranking officials of the Great Goddess Shrine, is very fond of that story. She constantly tells the main character in this novel world, a stories of some Saintess in the past without getting bored.
Yes, without getting bored, because the heroine tells the story at night in a thin dress that shows her purity as a Saintess. No man can ever get tired of seeing sweet sin before their eyes. Even if they can’t touch it, at least their eyes and minds have touched it.
Since I wrote the story, I’m already so familiar with it that I’m bored to hear my own creation stories. It’s just a backstory that happens to bring the heroine more closer to the main character, in intimate situation and romantic ways.
Whatever her fate is at this point, I hope the heroine is okay. She’s too kind to live as a Saintess who refrains from loving a man.
The responsibility of being a Saintess is equivalent to being an Idol; there are golden rules that must not be violated.
"You’ve been hurt a few times and kept getting back up, right?"
"Uh! Don’t remind me of my bad past. I’ve turned into a holy magic book that is tolerant of other magic. My closest friends are you and that shining sunflower. Which, for some reason, has become a study lamp and is considered something ’ordinary’ by your mother."
"Maybe my mother is too tired to be surprised. Try to talk to her if you get a chance."
"It would just make her faint on the spot after seeing a book that could talk."
"Yeah, maybe she will fainted, or she’s already get used to it, because she’s used to seeing some ’strangeness’ before her eyes, lately. Try it another time, when I’m busy serving my Master and you’re alone with my mother."
"You’re really busy as a apprentice maid, aren’t you? Even though you’re still undergoing training as an apprentice maid?"
"Yes, I’m even surprised by my apprentice maid training. It didn’t feel so busy as it was during the previous training," I replied while finishing my handwriting on the magic book paper.
Drriippp...
Drriippp...
Black ink dripped from the tip of my quill onto the dresser. I quickly wiped it away with a dry cloth to make sure there were no ink stains. Dried ink stains are very difficult to remove, and there’s no commercially available liquid alcohol to clean them.
"Magic affinity? You’re writing a theory of testing magic affinity in a magic book that’s supposed to be about magic? The content of your handwritten magic book is becoming more and more varied by the day. Aren’t you afraid of being labeled as crazy?"
"Is there anything wrong with that? I’m just refuting what’s inappropriate and agreeing on something worth noting. Didn’t the saints of the past become worshippers of the Great Goddess because their affinity for holy magic was higher than their affinity for elemental magic?"
"Not really; they became saints because they believed in the Great Goddess. Unlike you, who don’t believe in the Great Goddess but can cast holy magic. I’m even amazed by how you did it. On the other hand, those brightly glowing sunflowers also radiate holy magic after receiving holy fertilizer from you. You two are unprecedented existences. I hope you don’t claim to be Saintesses in the future, just because you can cast high-level holy magic."
"Relax, that will only happen if my shame vein is severed."
"That’s exactly what keeps me from not feeling relaxed at all!" the magic book grumbled in a loud voice that echoed through my room.
My mother awake in her sleep, but slowly turned over to pull the blanket over her body, and fell back asleep with a sigh.
The living holy book of magic nearly introduced itself to my mother.
"You almost made my mother faint after seeing a talking magic book."
"Isn’t it normal to see a talking magic book, since I am... a real living magic book?"
"Try to understand it from the perspective of a commoner who has never studied magic or seeing magic. You will look like a wandering ghost in her eyes."
"What kind of holy magic book is wandering around freely like that!" the holy magic book replied in a lower, grumbling voice than before.
Whether it was because of her scream or not, the sunflower that was serving as a study lamp on my dressing table had aimed its explosive sunflower seeds at the holy magic book that was floating beside me.
Waiting for the black ink to dry completely on the magic book given to me by Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg, I stretched my body after sitting for a long time.
My butt feels cramps...
My brain wants to get some fresh air...
And I want to immediately lie down on a cold bed...
"Uuhh!! I think that’s all the Chapter I can write tonight. So exhausted for tonight..."
"Because you’re taking the theory too seriously! And It’s too complex to be applied to a beginner mage!"
Ignoring those words, I quickly climbed onto my bed and closed my eyes, treating the criticism, suggestions, and sarcasm from the holy magic book as a beautiful lullaby.
