Assassin Crow Evolution
Chapter 145: Alligator Meteor
The screeching monk stopped doing what it was known for. It stopped screeching.
It looked at Jimmy, and then it looked at the lake, before it disappeared.
Naturally, Jimmy ended up feeling a little bit confused, but following the monk’s example, he looked at the lake, and tried to follow its prior line of sight.
In the middle of the lake, he saw a dot.
That dot buzzed around in place for a little while, and then it disappeared. One theory was that the dot he saw was actually the alligator he tried to kill, but he wasn’t sure.
The dot was too far away, and despite his eyesight being crystal clear, and even super advanced when he wanted to, he still couldn’t ’zoom in’ with his eyes. He was no eagle.
’I hope it worked... but, I don’t see the gator anywhere.’ He thought, ’I think I confused the fucking monk too... that’s a first.’
Nevertheless, Jimmy tried to remain enthusiastic. He considered The Screeching Monk revelation to essentially be a One-Wish Genie, and he liked to believe that the ’Genie’ had actually granted his one wish before it disappeared.
For that matter, he waited by the lake for a couple of minutes.
Nothing happened.
Jimmy was contemplating giving up, and despite the risks involved in these alligator infested waters, he wanted to ask either his brother, or the ladies to catch him a fish. A meal, because he wasn’t good at that.
However, seconds later, he heard a whistle.
It was faint, perhaps insignificant, as his ears barely picked up on the sound.
Unlike others, be it crows, or humans alike, he knew to do anything but to disregard this whistle. He almost knew what to expect.
Subconsciously, Jimmy then looked up, and saw a dot up in the air. It was barely the size of a thumb-tack, but as he took another look at it, the dot got bigger.
Then, it got even bigger.
"Oh hell... the monk really granted my wish!" He exclaimed, "I thought he wouldn’t pull through... but, I did tell him to toss the gator a hundred kilometers up. The fucker probably went up to the stratosphere or whatever that shit is!"
The dot that he was looking at was likely the alligator, and as it beamed closer towards the ground, it would appear that the alligator was also on fire.
"Maybe throwing him a hundred kilometers up was an overshot..." He muttered.
Afterwards, he tried to back away, because he felt that the impact from its landing would likely be deadly. If he was hit by the explosive landing, he feared that he didn’t have enough mana points to heal himself.
The ’dot’ got closer every second.
At some point, Jimmy had backed up near the tree where everyone rested.
When he looked up again, the dot was still overhead. He figured that the distance made it seem that way.
Then the dot got closer. The whistling got louder, and yet, the now palm-sized dot remained over his head, as if he hadn’t made tens of feet of grounded distance from it whatsoever!
That’s when a realization hit him.
"Fuck!" He exclaimed, "I asked for the gator to land ten feet away from me! The fucking monk took it literally!"
Perhaps he hadn’t perfected thinking nine steps ahead yet. His IQ was yet to catch up with that evolution.
Bending reality through spirituality was not a good idea. He understood that now.
To minimize any risk towards the team, he quickly asked Virena to get off of his back, told everyone to stay away from him for a minute or so, and then he took off.
Jimmy flew over a hundred meters away from his friends, or over three-hundred feet. Ideally, he wanted to fly away even further, as he now knew what to expect of the freefalling gator, but he couldn’t.
It caught up, and found him in the middle of a lush, green field.
Fshhh...
BOOM!
The alligator finally landed. It had taken a trip of a lifetime, and sadly for the gator, it had likely taken its last trip. Jimmy was almost sure that it was dead.
Upon the alligator’s impact with the ground, a shockwave spread. He couldn’t escape it.
There was no shield against it. His ear drums ripped as a result of his own obsessions!
[-500 mana points]
[Remaining pool: 1,130 points]
After the shockwave, came a wall of fire. It all happened in a blink of an eye, but he had expected it. He knew the alligator’s impact with the ground would be absolutely destructive, like a real meteor’s crash, so he had summoned his Elemental Shield skill seconds before the alligator even hit the ground!
The fiery, blast force of the impact tore through the first layer of his shield instantly, and then it ate up the second layer, going for the third.
Once more, Jimmy expected this, he was as prepared as he could be against an alligator meteor. He had even summoned his Retractable Razor Armor, as he expected to be hit with very physical debris that he did not have a shield to defend against.
It was effective enough. Tiny bits of rock broke off against the spikes across his coat, but then again, neither the fire nor the debris were as concerning as the fire from the impact was!
Its explosive nature was blinding. He had to close his eyes. Yet, he did not plan to summon a second Elemental Shield to defend himself against the fire, and neither did he have the time to do so.
Instead, he put his eggs in a second basket, so to speak.
Without even being well-versed with it, he summoned his new Elemental Abruption skill. It had no levels, it was purely based on his Mana Comprehension, and right now, he was hoping that it was enough.
In a snap, Jimmy focused his attention towards the wave of fire that he bashed against, and tried to change its very structure of fire!
It worked. Well, kind of.
Jimmy only managed to dismantle half of the wave of fire that ravaged against him. He created a narrow path of sorts, between the fire, which he used to slip through.
The other half of the fire landed against his shield.
Despite the strong, first hit the fire had on his Elemental Shield, the thing about fire which was created from explosive impact, rather than from a mage, was that its destructive force was supposed to spread wide, very quickly.
In other words, it didn’t have enough concentrated power on one single spot, that is, not enough to destroy Jimmy’s shield. It only made it to the third layer of the shield, before the fire passed by him. It did not manage to break it.
"That went better than I expected," He heaved out a deep sigh of relief, "I only lost my ears... Well, they healed too."
Then, Jimmy approached the crater that the impact, the alligator, had left behind.
