Avatar: Rebirth of the Strongest Firebender

Chapter 169 168: The Powerful Avatar State

  • Next Chapter

To understand the Avatar State, one must first understand the origin of the Avatar.

Originally, the world did not have an Avatar.

The Avatar was born from the fusion of humans and the spirit of light, Raava — the combination of man and god.

Raava reincarnates with each new Avatar, carrying the memories and souls of every past life.

The so-called Avatar State is the awakening of Raava's power inside the Avatar, a temporary re-fusion of the two.

It grants access to the accumulated memories of thousands of incarnations, along with the divine power of Raava, making it the Avatar's strongest combat state.

These details were recorded in The Legend of the Avatar, and today, Kahn finally witnessed the true form of the Avatar State with his own eyes.

Everyone gathered in the courtyard as Aang activated the Avatar State. The first thing they noticed was the transformation of his appearance.

The moment he entered the Avatar State, Aang's eyes and arrow tattoos began glowing bright white. His aura shifted completely.

His calm expression radiated an invisible pressure, as if he had transformed into someone entirely different.

Kahn and the others also noticed that Aang's feet had lifted off the ground — he was floating just above it.

This confused them. Aang wasn't using Airbending or Earthbending to hover. He simply was.

After the visual changes, the next thing they felt was the overwhelming energy pouring out of Aang.

The glowing eyes and tattoos were just the outward signs of this vast and powerful force.

Kahn had always sensed that Aang held enormous energy within him, but he never understood its true scale.

Now, confronting it directly, he finally understood why the Avatar was so revered around the world—

Because of this power. This unmatched power.

Kahn himself was also a fusion of two souls, which naturally gave him more energy than an average person.

But compared to Aang's Avatar State, his own power was like a single drop in an endless ocean.

With each reincarnation, the Avatar only grew stronger.

After thousands of years of accumulated strength, the energy inside Aang was terrifying — "limitless" wouldn't even be an exaggeration.

Yet despite this terrifying reservoir of power, Aang's physical body had always limited what he could output.

Worse, this vast energy was difficult to control, often causing him to lose control when entering the Avatar State.

According to Katara and the others, that wasn't uncommon.

But now, after opening all seven chakras and achieving unity between body, spirit, and nature — reaching the state of "heaven and man as one" — the limitations of his physical body had fallen away.

With the harmony of his past lives' memories, even this endless power could now be used freely.

His immense energy and inherited knowledge complemented each other perfectly.

This was the true Avatar State. The strongest form of the Avatar.

Honestly? It was like cheating.

While Kahn was still stunned, he also felt a bit helpless. He had originally wanted to spar with Aang in the Avatar State, but after seeing this…

How the hell was he supposed to fight that?

With his head?

It's not that our army isn't trying hard, it's just that the enemy brought cheat codes.

It was ridiculous.

Just as everyone was slowly recovering from their shock, Aang suddenly spoke.

"Immature."

His voice while in the Avatar State carried immense pressure, leaving them all confused.

A moment later, Aang exited the Avatar State.

"What's wrong? Is something the matter?" Katara asked nervously.

"Nothing…" Aang scratched his head, embarrassed.

"When I go into the Avatar State, I awaken all the memories of my past lives, so… I got scolded by myself."

He sighed.

"My past selves said the Avatar State isn't for showing off, and told me not to do boring things like this."

So that word "immature" was directed at himself.

Everyone found this both funny and strange. Sokka blinked and asked:

"Aren't you and your past lives all the same person?"

"No. We're the same person, but also… not the same person," Aang replied.

While Aang explained his complicated relationship with his past selves, Kahn was still thinking about what he had just seen.

Aang in the Avatar State was truly invincible. But Aang himself? Not necessarily.

Aang couldn't stay in the Avatar State forever. And more importantly — he couldn't activate it instantly.

And if it couldn't be activated instantly, then it could be interrupted.

While Aang was an Airbending master who could also bend all four elements, his normal strength was still within the realm of a typical high-level bender.

Kahn was pretty sure he could defeat Aang without the Avatar State.

With that thought, Kahn finally let out a breath.

But then something felt strange.

Why was he treating Aang like some hypothetical enemy?

"Kahn, would you be willing to manage the Fire Nation with me?"

Remembering Azula's words, Kahn suddenly understood.

Azula wanted to unite the world. If he chose to stand by her side, he would inevitably stand opposite Aang and his group someday.

Was that where this strange pressure came from?

After seeing Aang's terrifying power in the Avatar State, it was reasonable to feel some fear.

But… no. That wasn't it.

Kahn frowned, then dismissed his theory.

Because first, he wasn't afraid of facing Aang.

Second, this feeling had existed before he even saw the Avatar State.

Sigh.

Then what the hell was it?

Aang's return brought life back to the group, and a few days later, Toph returned as well.

Unfortunately, she returned angry — negotiations with her parents had failed.

Her parents insisted she stay home obediently and follow all their plans until she inherited the family business.

They didn't care about her feelings at all. They even called the guards to try to lock her up.

"I just couldn't get through to them!" Toph huffed, still furious.

"I was so pissed off that I turned the whole house upside down — literally — and then snuck out."

Everyone exchanged looks. Honestly, "turned the house upside down" probably wasn't an exaggeration.

"Even though I don't like big cities, at least you all are here. I really missed you guys!"

Everyone laughed. Katara grinned.

"Anyway, welcome back!"

The team was whole again — a happy moment. With the plan already set and no tasks left for Sokka or Katara, they suddenly found themselves with nothing to do.

Kahn continued training Earthbending with Toph and occasionally visited Iroh for tea. Life was peaceful. But the others were slowly getting restless.

They were used to traveling. Staying still felt strange, even suffocating. Toph complained daily about leaving.

Since their mission wouldn't begin for another week, they unanimously decided to take a short trip.

At that moment, Kahn finally spoke:

"If we're going out, there's a place I want to visit."
