Chapter 56: Chapter - 56: Kamil & Jamil

Kamil the Chameleon.

One of the terrorists belonging to the infamous organization, the Bloodied Hounds, and one of the major enemies encountered during the branching event of the game where the heroine finally had to decide which capture target’s route she would enter.

Although officially classified as a C-rank combatant, Kamil’s actual fighting ability was already approaching the lower threshold of B-rank adventurers.

His Beast Magic, Poisontail Chameleon, granted him extraordinary camouflage abilities, terrifying flexibility, regenerative capabilities, and above all... a venomous tail capable of paralyzing even experienced magic knights within seconds.

Shouting in anger, Kamil jumped forward towards me with his long tail actually reaching me ahead of himself as he tried to lash it at me.

"Watch out! It is poisonous!"

Without any hesitation, I created a rapidly spinning barrier of water before myself while simultaneously jumping backward and signaling Elena to retreat as well.

The translucent barrier rotated at high speed, forming a circular shield that continuously redirected the surrounding water currents.

"Splash!"

Kamil’s poisonous tail struck the barrier head-on.

The tremendous force behind the attack made the entire barrier shudder violently, ripples spreading across its surface as if a giant stone had been thrown into a lake.

The first strike was successfully blocked.

But Kamil had no intention of stopping there.

"Hah!"

With a sinister grin, he twisted his waist, causing the tail to bend unnaturally before lashing out once more from an entirely different angle.

Crack!

The second impact completely overwhelmed my defense.

The spinning Water Barrier shattered into countless droplets that scattered throughout the corridor.

Without losing even a fraction of its momentum, the purple tail continued extending toward me, almost like a living serpent pursuing its prey.

*It can still extend?!*

I had no time to cast another defensive spell.

Instead, I immediately gathered water around my staff.

"Aqua Hammer!"

A massive sphere of compressed water formed around the head of my staff as I swung it with all my strength.

BOOM!

The Aqua Hammer collided directly against the poisonous tail.

The impact echoed throughout the corridor.

Although the attack managed to knock the tail aside, the tremendous force traveling through it made both my arms go numb.

*This guy is ridiculously strong...*

It is said that beast magic users almost always have stronger physical strength and close combat prowess, especially those without elemental attributes. And now that I was personally fighting him, I finally understood just how terrifying it really is.

In addition this guy also got poison, if that tail even touched me once then I might not be able to recover from it without outside help.

"He actually blocked it? No wonder the boss specifically mentioned his name."

Kamil looked genuinely surprised behind his mask as he murmured.

"Oi! Brother!"

A loud, dissatisfied voice suddenly echoed from the direction of the eastern training hall.

The slightly opened gates of the eastern training hall at the end of the corridor burst apart as chunks of stone flew in every direction.

A short and chubby man casually walked through the dust cloud while scratching the back of his head.

Unlike Kamil’s lean physique, this newcomer possessed a plump body and a round face half visible from his black batman like mask.

He has an enormous tongue occasionally slipping out of his mouth. The tongue was more than a meter long and covered with strange crimson markings.

"You guys are so slow! I’ve been waiting inside that boring hall for so long!" The newcomer complained loudly while pouting.

"There wasn’t even anyone fun to kill!"

Kamil rolled his eyes "Quit complaining, Jamil. We found a more important target."

Only then did the newcomer finally notice us.

"Oh?" His gaze landed directly on me.

"So we got one free on other? But I thought the boss was supposed to handle him. Well just a kid anyway."

Without giving anyone time to react—

His long tongue suddenly shot forward. It moved with astonishing speed, resembling a crimson whip rather than flesh as its length kept increasing.

At the same time, red mana erupted around it as a trail of blazing flames wrapped around the tongue as it lashed toward one of the girls among the terrified first year students who were near him.

The poor student hadn’t even realized that she had become the target.

"Watch out!" Elena reacted almost instantly.

She swung her black staff without the slightest hesitation and a crescent-shaped blade of darkness flew forward, ’Shadow Edge’.

*Slash!*

The spell struck the flaming tongue from the side with perfect accuracy.

The attack altered its trajectory just enough for the fiery tongue to miss the frightened student by mere inches before crashing into the stone floor.

BOOM!

A low explosion scorched sounded in the now crowded corridor and the girl collapsed onto the floor in terror.

"I-it almost..."

Her voice trembled uncontrollably.

"Hmph." Jamil clicked his tongue in annoyance as he retracted it.

"What a troublesome girl."

The flames surrounding his tongue gradually intensified and even his body started to radiate a red glow underneath his clothes. then the temperature inside the corridor rose noticeably.

This is his beast magic, ’Flame Toad’.

Seeing this, my expression immediately darkened because this was what I was afraid of.

Whenever Kamil appeared, jamil would never be far away, the infamous brothers of the Bloodied Hounds.

In the original game, these two alone had nearly wiped out the combined forces of Hina, Lucian, Jin, Ralf, and some powerful upperclassmen.

Each covered the other’s weaknesses perfectly.

Kamil specialized in assassination, stealth, poison, and close combat while jamil excelled at long-range suppression and overwhelming firepower.

Separately, both were already monsters but together they are even more dangerous.

Instead of facing them with the powerful lineup from the game....

Our side only had three people capable of fighting, me, Elena and Lucian.

While there are four first year students trembling from fear and could barely keep their magic staffs steady. Even if they wanted to help, they would only become targets.

Lucian stepped beside me, his ambre eyes fixed on the two terrorists.

"I’ll handle the one using fire." He spoke calmly, though I could sense the tension in his voice.

"Don’t fight head on, just keep him busy until help arrives." I replied knowing that Lucian’s current strength is no match for him. "Elena you also help him and protect the others."

Compared to Lucian or any other main character, I would rather trust Elena’s strength because I know how capable she is.

"Okay" Elena replied with utmost confidence as she take a stance ready to cast magic any moment.

"W-we will also fight."

One of the girls from the group of those four students said as she hurriedly cast a spell and created a water barrier while all four of them ran back to Elena’s side.

*A water mage? Good* fire is inherently weak to water so it should suffice as defence.

Seeing this, the brothers exchanged amused glances and then both smiled simultaneously.

"Brother, let’s kill the boy first. And then capture the prince." Jamil said with a laugh.

*Wait! Kill who?!*

I almost screamed in my mind hearing them. In the game they were not supposed to kill any students because even they were afraid of the dire consequences that can come after that.

Their only goal was supposed to be to temporarily take the students and especially the second prince as hostage and then demand release of an important member of the bloodied hound from the jail.

Maya was supposed to die because they found out that she is a maid and not a student, and assumed that killing her would invite anyone’s wrath.

But here they are clearly talking about killing me and by their words it seems that they already knows about me. Suddenly a revelation went through my mind.

*Could it be that Maya’s death in the game wasn’t an incident?*

I thought as another possibility came to my mind. If Maya’s death in the game was a stage conspiracy and now the target has been changed to me then it means whoever has ordered them to do so wants to hurt Elena emotionally.

Which means that the hidden evil magic user in the academy is working with them and also they are already aware of Elena’s talent.

So was the forest incident also initiated by that person? Maybe to test Elena’s potential.

Meanwhile after hearing Jamil’s words and realizing the meaning behind them, Elena suddenly snapped back to look at me.

Probably concerned about my safety as she stepped back towards me.

"I will help y-"

"No. You focused on that frog guy, I can take care of this lizard." I replied before she could finish her sentence.

Although Kamil is stronger, Jamil is not much less of a threat either and if Elena will not help them, then I don’t think that Lucian and others will be able to tackle him.

And beside...

I am not afraid of any rank C, even if he is at the peak.
