*Why is someone like him working as a teacher?*

That question had been bothering me ever since I learned his true strength. Being a Grand Mage wasn’t something that could be treated casually.

A person who reached that level would be valuable anywhere in the kingdom, and there should be no shortage of opportunities waiting for someone like Albert.

He could easily receive an important position within the royal court, become a high-ranking member of the military, receive authority within the kingdom’s magical institutions, or perhaps even be granted noble status if he wanted it.

Yet Albert had chosen to work as the academy’s exorcism teacher. And as far as I knew, he didn’t behave like someone who was secretly holding such immense power.

He taught classes, and interacted with students like an ordinary instructor.

Even during today’s chaos, there had been nothing particularly strange about his behavior before revealing his strength.

*Why?*

I couldn’t come up with a satisfying answer. Maybe he simply didn’t care about status.

That was possible.

There were powerful people who had no interest in wealth or political influence, and Albert could certainly be one of them.

But even then, there was something strange about his presence here.

A Grand Mage choosing to remain inside an academy and work as a regular teacher was not exactly the most obvious career choice.

And then there was also that humanoid spirit.

The sheer magical pressure she released had been completely different from anything I had experienced from an ordinary spirit, and considering Albert’s own strength, the fact that he possessed a spirit capable of fighting at a level of a Grand Mage made the entire matter even more absurd.

*How many secrets are actually hiding inside this academy?*

I had originally thought that the academy was dangerous because of the events I remembered from the game. Now I wasn’t so sure anymore.

The academy itself seemed to contain people whose existence and details were not fully explained in the game.

Albert was one of them.

And if someone like him had existed in the academy all along without ever revealing his true strength in the original storyline, then there was a possibility that other things had also been hidden from the game’s narrative.

I turned my head slightly toward the other beds.

Elena was there, receiving treatment for her injuries, while Lucian and the other students were also being examined by the academy’s healers.

Lily is helping with the healing as her nature attribute has some healing abilities. Meanwhile Ian is accompanying uncle Simuka who has come personally for interrogating the captured attackers.

*At least everyone had survived, that is what mattered.*

Still, my thoughts returned to Albert.

*If he is really a Grand Mage, then why did the game never mention him like that?*

I couldn’t answer that question. And for the moment, I had no way of finding out. The only thing I could do was keep my eyes open.

Because after today’s attack, I was beginning to realize that the information in the game was far less than I previously thought.

After a while Elena came over and sat beside my bed, there was a bandage in her left arm, but everything else was fine after receiving the treatment.

She is unusually quiet as she watched the healer finish treating the wounds on my arms and then the healer moved toward another injured student.

Although Elena had not said much since we arrived here, the way her eyes remained fixed on me made it obvious that she was still worried.

"You should sleep," she finally said after a while, her voice considerably softer than usual.

"I am not tired."

"You were thrown into a wall, stabbed by several attacks, fought that poisonous guy, and then nearly got killed by another enemy who was strong enough to overpower our teacher."

I glanced toward her and gave a small smile "You make it sound worse than it was."

"It was worse than it sounds."

She immediately replied, and there was no hesitation in her voice this time, which made me realize that she was not joking.

*I can’t deny that* I thought as I grimaced over the fact.

I remained silent for a moment before looking toward her arm wrapped in the bandage "Are you alright?"

"I am fine, it was just a bruise" She replied as if it happened while playing around.

I could not help but smile "So am I. There are just some minor scratches."

"Minor scratches? You were almost killed!" She replied with obvious concern.

"I will not die from this. The healer already told me that my bones are intact, and most of the serious injuries have already been treated, so unless something unexpected happens, I should be able to recover by tomorrow."

Elena lowered her gaze for a moment, seemingly unconvinced, before taking a quiet breath and looking back at me.

"Then you should rest properly for next few days. Let’s cancel tomorrow’s plan."

*I knew she would say that*

The plan that had started with something as simple as taking her away from the academy for her birthday had somehow turned into our first proper date, and after everything that had happened today, it was understandable that she would be thinking about postponing it.

For some reason.... I do not want to cancel it "We don’t have to."

Her expression changed slightly "Kai, you are badly injured."

"I know."

"Then how can you say that so casually?"

"Because I will be fine by tomorrow evening." I answered calmly, although my body was still aching enough to make me aware that I was not exactly in perfect condition.

"I don’t need to be completely recovered by morning, and we were not planning to leave during the day anyway. The plan is for the evening, so I have plenty of time to recover before then."

Elena remained quiet, but I could tell that she was still worried.

But tomorrow is her birthday and also, tomorrow was supposed to be our first date. After everything that had happened today, I didn’t want to let the events of the attack take that away from her.

And there was another reason why I didn’t want to cancel tomorrow’s plan.

"There is another reason," I continued, turning my eyes toward the window where the academy grounds were still visible in the distance. "Tomorrow should actually be safer than any other day."

Elena looked at me with confusion "Safer?"

"The attack today has put the entire city on alert, and the academy will definitely increase its security after what happened, while the royal guards are probably going to be deployed throughout the capital as well, especially after the terrorists revealed themselves and attacked the academy."

I paused briefly before continuing.

"So tomorrow, there will probably be more guards outside than usual, and every important location will be watched carefully, which means it will be much harder for anyone to cause trouble without being noticed."

I didn’t tell her everything I knew.

She didn’t know that today’s attack was supposed to happen tomorrow according to the original events I remembered, and she certainly didn’t know that I had been expecting something dangerous to happen around her birthday, which was why I had originally planned to take her away from the academy in the first place.

But now that the attack had happened a day earlier than expected, tomorrow had become something completely different.

The danger I had been preparing for had already happened. And after today’s incident, there was no way the capital would return to normal overnight.

"If anything, tomorrow might be the safest day for us to go out. Or could it be that you do not want to go with me?" I said.

"Of course I want to" She answered without hesitation.

"So it is decided. Tomorrow is your birthday, Elena, and it’s also our first date, so I don’t want to cancel it just because of some minor injuries."

Her cheeks became slightly red at the last part, and she looked away instead of answering immediately. "Somehow you are acting differently nowadays."

*Am I?*

Although the worry in her eyes didn’t completely disappear, a small smile appeared on her face.

"I will still keep watching you tomorrow and if you’re still injured in the morning, we are cancelling it."

I thought about arguing, but decided against it "Fair enough."

Elena nodded before finally relaxing slightly in her seat, tension in her expression seemed to ease.

"Can you two stop flirting for....five minutes?!" Suddenly a boy laying on a nearby bed called out to us in frustration.

"Sorry" " Sorry" Elena and I replied almost simultaneously.

"Y-you should rest now." Elena told me, though a faint blush is visible on Elena’s face and I do not need to see in the mirror to know about mine.

"R-right" Pushing aside all the distracting thoughts I leaned back against the pillow.

"You should also return to the dorm and rest." I told Elena.

"Alright." She nodded as she got ready to leave. But before leaving she stopped in her track "Rest properly, I will bring you dinner later."

"Okay." A smile subconsciously appeared on my face as I watched her leave.

"Ughh....these normie couples!" The boy on the next bed made a disgusted grunt seeing that.
