Chapter 294: Chapter 226: Training Code Runs in 1 Go
5:30 PM.
The normal end of the workday had arrived.
Chen Lin glanced at the wall clock and was about to pack up and leave when Bai Qian suddenly spoke up.
"President Chen, could we... make an exception and work some overtime tonight?"
Bai Qian’s eyes were filled with anticipation.
"The three core modules of the new architecture are all finished. I’m dying to see what it looks like the first time it runs."
Chen Lin was slightly taken aback by his words.
He looked at Bai Qian, then at Pan Si sitting beside him, and then at Shen Yan, Sun Yu, and Yunqing not far away.
’It seems... everyone is pretty excited about this, huh?’
Chen Lin thought for a moment before finally nodding.
"Alright, we’ll make an exception just for tonight."
"But," Chen Lin added, his tone shifting, "everyone has to be out of here by nine o’clock at the latest."
"No problem!" Bai Qian was so excited he nearly jumped out of his seat.
And so, the small team at Yanhai Company embarked on a rare instance of collective overtime.
Although they were working late, the atmosphere was anything but oppressive.
Everyone knew that tonight, they would witness a brand-new AI architecture make the leap from theory to reality.
How could anyone miss a historic moment like this?
...
8:00 PM.
The atmosphere in the office had become incredibly relaxed.
Bai Qian and Pan Si were still busy at their respective computers, making the final preparations.
Meanwhile, Chen Lin was sitting on the sofa, scrolling through his phone while chatting with Shen Yan.
Just then, Yunqing suddenly stood up and clapped her hands.
"Everyone, take a break for a second!"
Everyone looked up at her.
Yunqing said with a bright smile:
"You’ve all been working hard all day. You must be hungry, right?"
"I’m going to run downstairs and grab some late-night snacks. What does everyone want?"
The moment she finished speaking, Sun Yu immediately raised his hand.
"I want skewers! Lamb, chicken wings, chives—the works! A big order!"
"I want skewers too!" Bai Qian chimed in.
Pan Si pushed up his glasses and said calmly:
"I’m fine with whatever, but if they have fried chicken, I’ll take an order of that."
Yunqing nodded with a smile, then looked at Shen Yan.
"Yanyan, what about you?"
Shen Yan thought for a moment and said softly:
"Just some lemonade for me is fine."
A smile touched Yunqing’s lips when she heard that.
"Alright, one special delivery of lemonade just for you."
With that, she turned to Chen Lin.
"Boss, what about you?"
Chen Lin thought for a moment and said:
"I’ll have a milk tea. Half sugar, no ice."
"You got it!"
Yunqing noted everyone’s requests, grabbed her bag, and briskly headed out the door in her high heels.
About twenty minutes later, Yunqing returned carrying several large bags.
The moment she stepped inside, the aroma of grilled skewers and fried chicken immediately filled the office.
"Food’s here!"
Yunqing placed the bags on the coffee table and started handing out the snacks.
Sun Yu eagerly grabbed a lamb skewer, took a bite, and squinted his eyes in satisfaction.
Bai Qian also picked up a chicken wing and said while gnawing on it:
"Assistant Yun, your logistical support is top-notch!"
"Of course!" Yunqing said with a laugh. "We’re a team, after all."
Then, she handed a cup of lemonade to Shen Yan.
"Yanyan, your lemonade."
"Thank you, Yunqing." Shen Yan accepted the lemonade and thanked her softly.
Yunqing then picked up a milk tea, walked over to Chen Lin, and handed it to him with a smile.
"Boss, your milk tea. Half sugar, no ice."
Chen Lin took the milk tea and said with a smile:
"Thanks for the trouble."
"No trouble at all." Yunqing waved her hand dismissively, then sat down next to Chen Lin and started nibbling on a grilled chive skewer.
The office was filled with a warm and cozy atmosphere.
Everyone ate their snacks and chatted.
Sun Yu recounted a few funny stories from his time at a design institute, making everyone roar with laughter.
"So get this, there was this old engineer at my institute who was a real character."
Sun Yu explained animatedly while munching on a skewer:
"One time, he had to give a technical presentation to a client using a PowerPoint. And guess what happened?"
"He got every single formula wrong!"
"Either the symbols were wrong, or the subscripts and superscripts were flipped."
"But the best part was, he actually wrote out pi, π, as ’pie’!"
"As in, P-I-E, the food!"
Sun Yu couldn’t help but laugh out loud as he told the story.
"The client was completely baffled and asked him what this ’pie’ meant."
"And the old engineer, with a completely straight face, said, ’That’s our institute’s proprietary symbol for pi.’"
"And the client bought it!"
"They totally bought it!"
"In the end, they just used the presentation as it was, and no one ever noticed the problem!"
"That’s just too ridiculous!" Yunqing said with a laugh.
"Tell me about it." Sun Yu shrugged. "That’s when I figured it out. To get by in a design institute, sometimes being thick-skinned is more useful than being skilled."
Everyone burst into laughter.
Chen Lin sat on the sofa, holding his milk tea, and watched the laughing and cheerful group of young people before him. A strong sense of accomplishment washed over him.
’This team is still small right now,’
’but every single person has their own unique strengths, and they’re all working hard for the company’s future.’
A slight smile touched Chen Lin’s lips at the thought.
He put down his milk tea and glanced at the time.
8:50 PM.
Ten minutes until nine.
Chen Lin stood up and looked at Bai Qian, who was still busy at his computer.
"Dr. Bai, how are the preparations coming along?"
Bai Qian immediately turned his head, his eyes shining with excitement.
"President Chen, we’re ready to start at any time!"
"Good." Chen Lin nodded. "Then let’s begin."
At his words, the group, which had been eating and chatting, immediately fell silent.
Everyone put down what they were holding and gathered around Bai Qian’s computer.
Bai Qian took a deep breath, his fingers hovering over the keyboard.
He glanced at Chen Lin, who nodded back at him.
"Begin."
Bai Qian pressed the Enter key firmly.
On the screen, lines of log information began to scroll frantically across the black terminal window.
[INFO] Initializing model architecture...
[INFO] Loading configuration...
[INFO] Adaptive Weight Allocation Layer initialized.
[INFO] Linear Recurrent Attention Layer initialized.
[INFO] Entropy Regularizer initialized.
[INFO] Model architecture loaded successfully.
[INFO] Starting forward pass...
Everyone held their breath, their eyes glued to the screen.
Time seemed to stretch on endlessly.
Five seconds.
Ten seconds.
Fifteen seconds.
The log information on the terminal was still refreshing, but the speed had noticeably slowed.
Just as everyone was starting to get nervous—
[INFO] Forward pass completed successfully.
[INFO] Loss: 2.3456
[INFO] Memory usage: 4.2GB / 10.0GB
[INFO] Time elapsed: 18.3s
"It worked!"
Bai Qian leaped up from his chair in excitement, pumping his fist fiercely.
"It worked! The first forward propagation test passed perfectly!"
A small cheer instantly erupted in the office.
Sun Yu slammed the table in excitement, while a rare smile appeared on Pan Si’s face as he pushed up his glasses.
Chen Lin stood behind the crowd, a satisfied smile playing on his lips as he looked at the line "Forward pass completed successfully" on the screen.
Although this was only the simplest of tests, it marked a crucial first step for the new architecture in its journey from theory to reality.
The next step was to see how it performed during actual training.
Just as everyone was basking in the joy of their success, Chen Lin suddenly spoke.
"Don’t celebrate just yet."
His voice was calm.
The cheers immediately died down, and everyone turned to look at Chen Lin.
Chen Lin smiled and continued:
"That test just now only proved that the code can run. That’s the most basic requirement."
"The real test is the training process that comes next."
"What we need to see is how this new architecture performs in a real training scenario—whether the training curve is smooth, how fast it converges, and what the final model’s performance is like."
At this, Chen Lin looked toward Bai Qian.
"Starting tomorrow, use the dataset prepared by Dr. Pan to officially begin training the 1.5B model."
"We need to carefully observe the complete training curve and performance metrics."
"Only when this model is fully trained, and its performance surpasses existing open-source models, can we say that this new architecture is a success."
After listening, Bai Qian nodded firmly.
