Baby System: My Mates Can Read my Mind?
Chapter 175: Episode 174: I am staying
he sheer force of her voice forced both wolves to their knees like children.
The single word hung in the dusty air. It didn’t come out as a loud, screeching yell. It came out heavy. The magic of the Alpha Command Voice hit the courtyard like a physical shockwave. It slammed into the two massive men, stripping away their feral rage in a fraction of a second.
Axel’s hands flew off his brother’s throat. His heavy body jerked backward. His knees hit the dirt with a loud, hollow thud. He gasped for air, his glowing golden eyes snapping back to their bright blue color. The sharp claws on his hands shrank back into his skin, leaving dirty, blunt nails behind.
Onyx collapsed right next to him. The moody white wolf dropped his head low to the ground. His broad chest heaved up and down with ragged, wet breaths. He tried to push himself back up, planting his bloody hands in the mud, but he couldn’t do it. The magical command pressed heavily on his broad shoulders, pinning him down.
Rue didn’t stop walking.
She marched right off the wooden porch. Her bare toes hit the dry, ruined soil of the courtyard. She didn’t flinch when a sharp piece of gravel poked her heel. She didn’t care that the hem of her soft green dress dragged through the dirty puddles of fresh blood.
Knox stood by the front door, his golden eyes wide with shock. He watched his tiny, fragile mate command two of the most dangerous warlords in the world with a single word. Drax watched from the broken gate, a slow, proud smirk touching his lips.
Rue ignored them too. She only cared about the two bleeding idiots kneeling in the dirt.
She walked right into the middle of the mess. She stopped a few inches away from the brothers. They looked massive. They were covered in thick muscle, dark bruises, and jagged scratches. But as she stood over them, they looked very small.
She pointed a shaking finger right at Axel’s face.
“Look at you,” Rue scolded. Her voice trembled, fueled by pure, hot anger. “Just look at yourself, Axel. You’re bleeding from your face. Your clothes’re ruined. You’re acting like a wild, rabid dog fighting over a scrap of meat.”
Axel flinched hard. He wiped a dark streak of blood from his split lip. He didn’t offer a cocky smile. He didn’t try to make a loud joke to deflect the tension. He just stared at the dirt between his heavy boots. He hated the deep disappointment shining in her pink eyes. It hurt worse than the punch he took to the jaw.
“You live in a house with babies,” Rue continued. She didn’t hold anything back. She let all her motherly fury pour out. “We’ve Theron. We’ve Seika. We’ve Mochi. They look up to you. They think you’re a hero. What if they walked out here right now? What if they saw you trying to rip your own brother’s throat out? Do you want them to think this’s how our family solves problems?”
Axel’s shoulders slumped. He looked up at her, his expression soft and deeply guilty. He looked like a puppy who just chewed up a favorite shoe.
“I’m sorry, Rue,” Axel whispered. He sounded very tired. “He just made me so mad. He doesn’t respect us.”
“I don’t care who started it,” Rue snapped. She crossed her arms tight over her chest. “I don’t care about your old pack drama. I don’t care who insulted who. You don’t solve problems by breaking bones. Not in my house. Not ever.”
She took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart. The adrenaline pumped through her veins, making her fingers tingle. She looked at the ruined flower bed. She spent hours planting those tiny blue seeds with Theron. They watered them every single morning. Now, they were just crushed green stems buried under heavy boot prints. The wooden fence they built to keep the feral beasts out was splintered into sharp, dangerous pieces. It was a complete disaster. They ruined a safe space just to prove who had sharper teeth.
She turned her sharp glare to the other wolf.
Onyx kept his head down. His messy white hair fell over his face, hiding his badly bruised jaw. His left leg trembled slightly from the deep scratch Axel gave him. He expected her to scream at him. He expected her to call him a feral monster. He waited for the harsh rejection he thought he deserved.
“And you,” Rue said softly.
Her tone shifted. The fiery anger cooled down into a heavy, cold truth.
Onyx swallowed hard. He braced himself for the pain.
“You came to my home,” Rue stated. She took a tiny step closer to him. “You snuck through a broken window like a thief. You insulted the wooden toys my family made for my babies. You tried to ruin the peace we built here. All because you’re throwing a massive pity party for yourself.”
Onyx’s head snapped up. His silver eyes flashed with a hint of his old, stubborn pride. His wild instincts told him to argue. He wanted to defend his actions. He wanted to say he couldn’t help it.
Rue didn’t let him speak a single word.
“You think you’re the only one who hurts?” Rue asked. She held his freezing gaze, refusing to back down. “You think you’re the only one who had a hard life? Look around you, Onyx.”
She gestured toward the quiet house behind her, then pointed toward the dark trees.
“Drax lived alone on a freezing mountain for years,” Rue said, her voice ringing clear in the yard. “Knox fought every single day in the mud just to keep his swamp safe. Axel bled in the snow trying to hold your broken family together while you hid. They all suffered. They all’ve terrible scars.”
Onyx stared at her. He listened to every single word. The harsh truth pierced right through his tough leather armor.
“But they chose to stop fighting,” Rue told him. “They chose to build a real family. They put their heavy weapons down for me. They put their stubborn pride away so the babies could’ve a safe place to sleep. They chose peace.”
She uncrossed her arms. She let her hands fall to her sides. Her pink eyes softened just a fraction.
“I know the magic’s messing with your head,” Rue admitted quietly. She understood his pain. The system forced a heavy, suffocating bond onto a man who didn’t know how to handle soft feelings. “I know you hate feeling out of control. I know you hate smelling them on my skin. I know it drives your beast crazy.”
Onyx let out a ragged, shaking breath. Hearing her say it out loud made his chest ache in a brand new way.
“But you don’t get to act like a monster just because you’re sad,” Rue said firmly. “You don’t get to come here and destroy my yard. Look at my flowers. Look at the fence. You ruined it all. I won’t allow this. I won’t let you drag this dark, violent cloud into my safe home.”
She stood tall. She looked down at the bruised, bleeding Northern warlord. She laid down the final rule.
“You’ve a choice right now, Onyx,” Rue commanded. She didn’t leave any room for negotiation. “You can stay here with us. But if you stay, you act like a man. You act like a true brother. You respect the peace of this house. You help Axel fix that broken fence, and you never raise your claws to family again.”
She pointed toward the heavy front gates. The iron bars stood wide open, leading out to the dark, wild woods.
“Or you can leave,” Rue finished. “You can get up, walk out those gates right now, and never look back. You can go back to your lonely, freezing mountain peak. You can hold onto your bitter anger forever. But if you walk out, you never come back. I won’t let you hurt my family again.”
The ultimatum hung heavy in the warm afternoon air.
She didn’t offer a middle ground. She didn’t offer to baby him or hold his hand. She gave him a hard, solid boundary. He needed a firm wall to push against, and she just built one out of pure steel.
Axel stayed quiet. He watched his twin. He knew Onyx was very stubborn. He knew Onyx hated taking orders from anyone, especially a soft girl from the swamps. A part of Axel expected his brother to spit in the dirt, shift into a giant wolf, and sprint into the woods.
Onyx didn’t move. He looked at the open iron gates.
He pictured the Dragon Peaks. He pictured the dark, empty stone halls he guarded for years. He pictured the freezing wind biting his skin and the lonely, quiet nights where nobody spoke his name. He remembered the cold stone floors and the endless silence. He lived that dark life for so long. He thought it was his sworn duty. He thought it was the only thing a broken triplet deserved. He thought he was meant to be a ghost haunting the borders.
Then he looked at the cozy stone house. He smelled the faint scent of sweet red berry tea coming from the kitchen window. He thought about the warm hearth burning in the living room. He thought about Theron’s loud, happy giggles echoing off the wooden beams. He thought about Mochi falling asleep on his lap just a few hours ago, trusting his thick arms to keep her safe. The contrast was staggering. One path offered a slow, freezing death. The other path offered warmth, noise, and life.
He looked back at the small girl standing in front of him. Her green dress was stained with dust and ash. Her bare feet were dirty from the mud. But she looked stronger than any warlord he ever fought. She didn’t wear iron armor. She didn’t carry a sharp axe. She just carried a fierce, unyielding love for her family. She offered him a real home. She offered him a place where he didn’t have to be a lonely guard anymore. She offered him a family, if he just swallowed his foolish pride.
He didn’t want to leave.
The heavy, dark anger drained right out of his blood. It washed away into the dirt, leaving him empty and raw. The wild beast inside his chest finally settled down, curling up to rest in the quiet dark. He felt so tired. His bruised jaw throbbed with a dull ache. His scratched leg burned where the sharp claws dug deep into his muscle. But for the first time in his long, bloody life, his heart felt light.
He didn’t want to fight his brother anymore. He didn’t want to fight the magic. He just wanted to belong somewhere.
Onyx grumbles, looking up at her with raw, desperate submission. “I’m staying.”
