Back to the 1980s: Becoming the Villain's Lucky Wife
Chapter 765: Miss Su, I Don't Think We're That Close
‘It’s not the new millennium yet. The internet is developing faster than before, but it’s not ubiquitous. So, even with all the buzz on Jinyi’s side today—reporters taking pictures, conducting interviews, writing articles for the papers, and getting them published—the news won’t be out until tomorrow at the earliest. And by then, the trade show will be over.’
‘Besides, the whole point of this trade show is for exports.’
‘Hiring all these celebrities must have cost a fortune.’
Heh, Qin Jiao didn’t believe for a second that Su Yuxi had enough clout to get these people to come purely as a favor.
‘She’s only been in showbiz for a handful of days.’
‘She spent a ton of money to hire celebrities whose styles are rather fixed and completely unsuitable for the export-focused clothing line.’
‘So, this is purely to create hype?’
‘But the only effect of the hype is to make the venue a little more lively, and that’s it.’
‘It’s not like there’s live streaming or things going viral online like there will be later on.’
The fashion show was an important part of the trade show, but in reality, many merchants had already reached preliminary agreements before it even began. For instance, the handful of people with strong ties to Beidou were primarily here to sign contracts with Jiu Yi.
Of course, they would keep an eye out for other one-off deals as well.
Jinyi’s bustling setup did attract a lot of attention.
But how many contracts they could actually sign would ultimately depend on multiple factors like the style and quality of their clothes.
After all, they were all in the business of selling clothes, not peddling gimmicks.
During the model showcase, everyone was seated beside the runway.
Su Yuxi happened to be standing right next to Qin Jiao.
Su Yuxi held her chin high, looking at the stage like a proud swan.
However, she started speaking to Qin Jiao.
“Qin Jiao, when you have time, let’s get some tea and chat?”
Qin Jiao chuckled softly. “Miss Su, I don’t think we’re that close.”
“Are you afraid of me?”
“Me, afraid of you? Aren’t you the one who’s always treated me like a thorn in your side, Miss Su?”
“Hah! You’re just lucky, Qin Jiao!” She turned to look at Qin Jiao, her eyes filled with provocation. “What, you don’t dare to chat with me?”
Qin Jiao replied, “I’m very busy. I might not be free. We’ll see.”
No matter if Su Yuxi’s approach was soft or hard, Qin Jiao refused to take the bait. Su Yuxi was furious and annoyed, but the moment a camera flashed, she instantly put on her standard smile.
Seeing this, Qin Jiao shook her head, speechless.
‘I have to admit, she’s quite professional.’
‘She isn’t stupid, foolish, or lazy. So how did she turn her perfectly good life as a transmigrator into… this?’
Qin Jiao stopped looking at her and turned her attention back to the runway.
During the intermission, Shen Yi, who had just been chatting with a few foreign friends, walked over to stand beside Qin Jiao. He glanced at Su Yuxi with displeasure.
Su Yuxi’s expression was also complex. She let out an arrogant huff, then turned away to whisper something to the celebrities she had invited.
Shen Yi asked Qin Jiao in a low voice, “She didn’t cause any trouble for you, did she?”
“She asked me out for tea and a chat.”
“Is she crazy?”
The corners of Qin Jiao’s lips lifted slightly. “Probably. Oh, right, how did your talks go?”
“We were already pretty much in agreement. They saw the other brands’ showcases this morning and felt none of them were as good as Jiu Yi’s. They’ve already confirmed they’re signing sixty percent of their orders with us. There are still a few headliners in the second half, so they probably want to wait and see them. Plus, our own Jiu Yi collection hasn’t been shown yet.”
These people were all seasoned veterans of the business world, and incredibly shrewd. Even with an acquaintance’s recommendation, and despite having indeed investigated Jiu Yi’s clothing and finding the styles and quality to be excellent, they had still only committed to a portion of their orders.
Qin Jiao smiled. “Don’t worry. I have confidence in our collection.”
