Qin Jiao understood this. “Was she murdered?” she asked.

“Yes. And there’s evidence suggesting Gao Yuan was the last person she saw. What’s more, my friend, Xu Zhi, is following up on this case. He also discovered that Gao Yuan isn’t his parents’ biological son. It’s connected to a case of babies being switched at birth years ago. Gao Yuan’s ex-wife was his adoptive parents’ biological daughter.”

The whole situation was incredibly complicated.

Even though the heat was on and the room was quite warm, the news sent a chill through everyone.

Shen Yi asked, “Is Gao Yuan in custody now?”

Gu Xu nodded. “Yes, just now. Xu Zhi sent me a message. He said there’s other evidence indicating that Gao Yuan is the most likely suspect in his ex-wife’s murder.”

Even Xiao Shi, who was always calm and composed, was shocked and felt a lingering sense of fear after hearing this.

After all, Gao Yuan had been just one step away from becoming her cousin’s husband.

It was a good thing Qin Jiao had been so decisive in persuading Xiao Lan. For her part, Xiao Lan had also kept a clear head and hadn’t let her emotions cloud her judgment.

Gu Xu said, “Xu Zhi asked me how Qin Xiaolan is doing now.”
