Back to the 70s: My Childhood Sweetheart Spoils Me Rotten
Chapter 1447 - 1449:
"Hi."
Zhao Xuran was also taken aback for a moment, "Hi."
Didn’t they just have quite a bit of food? How come they’ve already finished eating so quickly?
"Did you guys come here to eat?" As soon as he said this, Mark wished he could slap himself. In this place, what else would you do but eat?
Mark never imagined he could be so stupid one day. Sigh.
"Yeah, my brother strongly recommended it." This guy must be shy, Zhao Xuran noticed Mark lowering his head and felt surprised.
Considering the bold words this guy said in the afternoon, how could he be embarrassed by such a simple question?
"Yeah, the steak and desserts here are really good." Besides making money and looking at beautiful women, Mark is also very interested in food.
"More importantly, there’s sunshine here. Sigh, New York’s weather is really awful, and the streets are terrible." Speaking of living in New York, Mark had a lot to complain about.
"Yet you still live in New York." Gong Ruini listened to Mark’s constant criticisms about New York’s shortcomings. While New York does have its issues, Mark seemed to be settled there.
Since this guy isn’t strapped for cash and loves California’s sunshine, why hasn’t he considered moving to California?
Zhao Xuran gently shook his head at Gong Ruini. Some people can vent their dissatisfaction in various ways, but outsiders should not get involved.
Gong Ruini stuck out her tongue; she couldn’t help it for a moment. Truthfully, the sight of Mark’s face was enough for her to lose control because this guy was really annoying.
Mark didn’t think Gong Ruini was mocking him. He took a deep breath, "Yeah, that’s what I think too. I really should come to California."
"But what can I do if I come to California?"
"Once I earn enough money, I’ll come here." Mark clenched his fist to express his determination.
Gong Ruini wanted to hold back. After all, she wasn’t too familiar with Mark, but this guy’s words raised a lot of questions.
"What is considered enough money?"
"Don’t you remember inflation?" Investing in real estate in the United States is a bit challenging, at least at this stage.
Not to mention the annual taxes, the fluctuation of real estate prices isn’t substantial. Americans don’t buy houses very often; they prefer to rent.
This way, they can easily move when they find jobs in different regions.
"Investing, of course." Sigh, a bumpkin is a bumpkin; Mark silently mocked a bit, but he didn’t expect this bumpkin to understand inflation.
"Hmm, it seems you have a good eye." Gong Ruini offered a bit of flattery.
"Of course. I’m a professional." Mark showed a hint of pride. Although he might be unreliable at times, he felt pretty competent in his field.
Looking at the smug expression on Mark’s face, Gong Ruini felt he might get along well with Zhao Guangran—both being equally full of themselves.
Mark’s girlfriend was waiting impatiently nearby, especially after noticing Gong Ruini and the others were Asians. Though her expression wasn’t outright disdainful, her dismissive look was still noticed by Zhao Xuran.
Zhao Xuran tugged at Gong Ruini, signaling that they should leave. For those who think they’re superior, he chose to ignore them.
Zhao Xuran truly didn’t understand. They aren’t relying on them, nor asking for anything. He really didn’t know where this kind of mentality comes from.
"We’re leaving now." Zhao Xuran flashed a smile at Mark before departing.
As for the lady accompanying Mark, sorry, she wasn’t showing them any respect, and they weren’t going to return the favor.
After Zhao Xuran and the group left, the girlfriend looked displeased, "They’re really from some backward, uncivilized place, no manners at all."
Though Mark hadn’t paid attention to his girlfriend’s expression, he noticed Zhao Xuran’s expression sour when looking at her.
Recalling his girlfriend’s previous bad temper, Mark sighed lightly, "Before you criticize others, maybe think about yourself first."
"What’s wrong with me?" The girlfriend was unhappy. "They’re the ones who were rude."
Looking at his girlfriend, who was still arguing stubbornly, Mark suddenly remembered what a friend had once told him, and at this moment, he truly felt a bit tired.
Mark didn’t want to continue debating this topic with his girlfriend because he knew the end result would be his fault anyway.
Knowing the outcome, why keep bothering? Better to enjoy the remaining time a bit. "Alright, let’s not talk about them."
"By the way, didn’t you say you wanted a necklace?" Mark hooked his arm around his girlfriend as they headed to the hotel, sweet-talking her into happiness.
His girlfriend was surprised by Mark’s sudden enthusiasm but quickly adjusted; to her, this was typical Mark.
Though Mark was a bit of a philanderer, he was generous and knew how to make people happy in a variety of ways.
After hurriedly walking a bit, Zhao Xuran slowed down, "I previously advised that guy to be nicer to his girlfriend."
"Now I just think, why didn’t I advise him to break up?"
"What good is being pretty if her heart is so dark?" Zhao Xuran said angrily.
"Forget it, why are we discussing her?" Gong Ruini gently patted Zhao Xuran’s arm.
"We should think about where we’re going to explore tomorrow; as for her, she’s merely a passerby."
Having been in the United States for some time, Gong Ruini may not have met many people, but she’s seen enough faces.
As for that particular beauty’s dismissive expression towards them, Gong Ruini didn’t care at all.
"They live their life, and we live ours."
"We don’t rely on them for anything." Anyway, Gong Ruini really couldn’t understand some of the white people’s mentality.
And there’s no need to understand, "It’s about being capable."
"Yeah, I really regret advising him. I shouldn’t have." Zhao Xuran sighed in regret, "By the way, should we buy something?"
The dinner was nice, but the portion was small. Given his wife’s current special condition, she definitely shouldn’t be hungry.
"Sure, I want to drink milk." Gong Ruini personally didn’t like milk, you could say she somewhat disliked it.
But right now, she couldn’t be capricious; whatever is good for the child, she persisted in drinking.
"Okay." Zhao Xuran held Gong Ruini’s hand as they went to find a convenience store to buy drinks.
"Should we buy more food?" As he picked out the milk, Zhao Xuran casually asked.
Gong Ruini glanced at the rather plain-looking store and shook her head, "No, we’ll eat in the morning."
Gong Ruini patted her stomach; she felt the amount was sufficient, and since it was quite late, she’d shower and get ready for bed upon returning to the room.
But maybe the portion wasn’t enough. "Alright, let’s buy some food."
After thinking for a moment, "Forget the pastries."
The pastries tasted good in the afternoon, but to Gong Ruini, they were still a bit too sweet.
Occasionally tasting them is alright, but she really couldn’t eat much.
"How about we get a pizza?" Looking around, Zhao Xuran realized this late at night, pizza might be their best option.
Gong Ruini pouted, "Beijing is still better, more variety of food."
So many cuisines to choose from, not to mention all sorts of snacks.
Even for Zhao Xuran, someone not too picky about food, these food options left him speechless.
