Lying in bed, Gong Ruini still hadn’t recovered.

"You’re saying Guang Ran wasn’t joking?"

"Did he get triggered or something?" All that personal pressure and suppression—anyone in his place would be pissed.

It’s just that with the way he’s arranged things this time, is he really just venting, or does he actually think going to the United Kingdom is an opportunity?

Gong Ruini regretted it so much—why hadn’t she seriously studied the trends of the global economy back then.

She didn’t need to know the development of every stock and every company, just needed to know which shares made the most money, then they could quietly rake it in.

She really hadn’t expected it would bring so much trouble.

"I don’t know if he’s been stimulated, I just know that this time Guang Ran is probably serious."

"He made all the plans himself this time, I absolutely, absolutely did not help." On this point, Zhao Xuran had to clear Zhao Guangran’s name.

"Then when did you find out?" No matter how she looked at it, Gong Ruini felt like this was a setup.

Maybe Zhao Guangran had long planned to bring Zhao Xuran into the company, have him learn properly, and then take him along to the United Kingdom to develop.

Hmph, she knew it, that guy Zhao Guangran was really not your average bad person. He’s a lone wolf; wherever he goes, he’s not going to let his own life be anything but comfortable.

But why does he have to steal my man away.

"Even if I don’t go to the United Kingdom, Guang Ran will definitely go. As for whether Jia Ming is willing to go, that depends on his own decision." If it were before, Zhao Xuran would’ve been pretty confident, but during the meeting today, Gong Jiaming’s expression had been perfectly neutral.

Meaning no matter how long Zhao Xuran stared at Gong Jiaming, he couldn’t see any expression other than that poker face.

Whatever face Gong Jiaming showed outside, at home this kid had always been someone whose expressions were easy to read.

If he really didn’t want to go to the United Kingdom, Zhao Xuran knew he couldn’t force anyone, he was just worried Gong Jiaming might have other ideas.

Like maybe having feelings for him and Guang Ran. If that were really the case, Zhao Xuran honestly didn’t care—originally, them being together was just "we stay as long as we click," and once the values diverge, splitting up is normal.

What Zhao Xuran was worried about was whether Gong Ruini would overthink everything, whether she’d be unhappy.

"Well..." Zhao Xuran didn’t spell it out, but Gong Ruini understood.

"I actually talked to Jiaxin about Jia Ming today. He probably still hasn’t worked it out," Gong Ruini said softly. "But I can tell that brat is just angry; he shouldn’t be thinking about ’splitting the family.’"

Nobody was stupid. Staying in the United States, they had to stick together. If they didn’t, it’d be all too easy for others to crush them until not even bones were left.

"Let it be." Seeing his little woman so cautious and careful, Zhao Xuran didn’t want Gong Ruini stuck in the middle, all torn up.

"Whatever he decides, we’ll support him."

"We’re all good brothers." Of course Zhao Xuran wasn’t going to throw out some fierce lines like, "I’ll definitely make Gong Jiaming regret it."

What’s the point of saying that kind of thing? It’s meaningless, and just makes you look childish.

In his room, Zhao Guangran was writing. After he put down the last letter, the person he’d been waiting for still hadn’t shown up.

Zhao Guangran gave a bitter smile. "Some things, you already knew the outcome from the start."

"So why bother looking forward to it." No expectations, no hurt. Zhao Guangran closed his notebook and rubbed his stomach.

At this hour he really was a bit hungry. Eating a late-night snack was bad for the body, sure, but it was still better than going to bed on an empty stomach.

Worst case, he’d just work out more tomorrow during the day. He didn’t have that much on his plate anyway; he was just working on how to get the funds to flow back.

As for earning living expenses, wasn’t his big brother keeping an eye on that?

Given the current situation, the smaller the moves, the easier it was to sail through. If they made some big, high-profile entrance into the market, Zhao Guangran was certain someone would move to block them.

"I cooked some noodles." Just as Zhao Guangran walked into the kitchen deep in thought, trying to figure out what to make, he heard a lively voice.

He looked up and froze for a second. "Oh, thanks."

"I was just reading some books on investing in gold and crude oil. I don’t feel very confident yet, but I’ll work hard and study."

Gong Jiaming picked up the bowl he’d already prepared, then scooped up half the noodles. "I’ll be counting on you in the days ahead."

So he was going to follow him to the United Kingdom? Zhao Guangran was overjoyed. "Good kid. But if you go to the United Kingdom with me, she..."

As soon as the words left his mouth, Zhao Guangran felt a wave of regret. Back then they’d fallen out over that woman—why was he bringing her up now.

At that moment, Zhao Guangran really wanted to give himself a hard slap. He was unbelievably stupid; had there ever been anyone as dumb as him?

"I don’t think she and I are necessarily a good match." At those words, Gong Jiaming’s expression changed slightly, but he quickly smoothed it out.

Huh, not a good match? If you don’t even ask, how do you know you’re not a good match? Zhao Guangran lowered his head, took a bite of noodles, then looked at Gong Jiaming curiously.

Since this kid was willing to bring it up, of course he was willing to listen to why.

"I was planning to go confess to her today, and ask if she’d be willing to wait for me, or go to the United Kingdom with me."

"But then I saw some guy picking her up after work." Gong Jiaming was trying hard to calm himself down.

But he really couldn’t calm down. "Later I asked around and found out that guy confessed to her a month ago."

"And she said yes."

Starving, Gong Ruini once again climbed out of bed in the middle of the night to look for food in the kitchen. With so many people at home, every grocery run meant stocking up like crazy; there was no such thing as "nothing to eat."

Used to finding an empty kitchen, Gong Ruini hadn’t expected to run into the two people she thought would never appear there at the same time.

And they were eating noodles together, too. Eating noodles was whatever, but Gong Jiaming was actually saying he’d had his heart broken.

No, not heartbroken—his crush had just been snatched away by someone else.

At this moment, all Gong Ruini could think was that Zhao Guangran had really called it—good girls really do get taken.

Zhao Guangran was stunned. "Um, I, uh, I was just saying that back then."

He really meant it—back then he’d only wanted to prod Gong Jiaming a bit, to say that there are some people and some things you really can’t drag your feet on.

He’d actually gone to check that woman out. With his taste, he really hadn’t thought she was anything special.

Never thought she’d be in such high demand. Zhao Guangran couldn’t help sinking into thought. Was it that in this day and age, even women that ordinary never had to worry about finding someone?

He was utterly baffled, but that didn’t stop him from trying to comfort Gong Jiaming, and that in turn was giving him a headache.

If it were Dai Limin, Zhao Guangran would have said, "It’s just a woman, no big deal. In a few days I’ll introduce you to someone better."

But this was Gong Jiaming—this kid was actually pretty pure. That kind of talk really didn’t suit him.

He was anxious, really anxious. Just as Zhao Guangran had no idea what to do, he looked up and caught sight of Gong Ruini.

He waved at her. "Sister-in-law, you’re here."

Wasn’t this exactly what Gong Ruini was best at? More importantly, her role made her the perfect person for it.
